Chapter 23:

Ur City (2)

The Worst Hero

The city of ur.

Everyone enters and leaves the city without any problems, I can see everything. There are many shops selling various items that I have no idea what they are or what they are for, there are fruit and food sales and even heroes recruiting other heroes for their group.

They recruit in two ways: either they come to talk to you directly, or they use some poster. Like: "Oh, I'm Nejer, I'm recruiting heroes for my group. If you feel interested, go to the Ur guild and contact me.

This issue of only being able to be a hero in a group of 3 is a problem, I really prefer to make it on my own. And I don't want someone to have to relate to a bad person like me, I don't want to hurt anyone anymore...

Well, back to reality, I have to sell some of my goods to some merchant, otherwise, I won't have money to sleep somewhere or even to eat.

Thinking logically, I need to look for a place that will buy more common items, I am sure that the guild should only pay for more specific and rare items, so I need to find a more suitable place to sell my items. So I have to find a place that has information about such a place... of course I can ask someone on the street, but until I find someone with useful information it can take a long time. Coincidentally, I am now in front of a perfect place to get information... a tavern.

When I entered it I saw several heroes, well, it wasn't hard to tell that they were heroes with their clothes and weapons that were certainly very expensive.

As soon as I entered, they all gave me a strange look. I know that look, it is a look of disdain. Well, I was shirtless this whole time, maybe that's why, my shirt was torn in my battle with the spider, but I think it was more than that. Outside I was shirtless too ( obviously) but, people didn't seem to care.

Maybe they thought I was needy, because there were some in town. But I am sure that this tavern is almost a meeting place for these heroes and they don't want someone "like that" eating and drinking with them.

Soon I can hear the laughter, feel their looks and giggles in my direction, and it makes me want to turn around? but I have to be strong.

I walk towards the counter and ask the tavern keeper what I want.

-"Hey, do you know a place where a hero can buy and sell items?"

- "Um, are you a hero boy ? Hahaha how interesting... normally I would charge for information, at least if you bought a drink, but I'll be generous this time. Besides the guild, there is only one place to buy and sell items here, it is at the Ur city slave and monster merchant, his store is on the right in the far part of town. You will know when you are close..."

I've heard about him, well anyway this was valuable information.

-"Really? Thanks, I wanted to pay you in a way..."

- "But you'll pay me back..."

- "Huh?"

- "Get out of my tavern now, you're pestering the customers."

Then everyone in the store heard what he said, and started shouting.

-"That's it! This is no place for little guys like you."

- "Get out of here."

- "He thinks he's a hero! Hahahaha for goodness sake, take these coins and go buy some clothes.

- "Who let this guy in here, he's ruining my drink."

Shouts and more shouts, laughter and more laughter, echoed through that tavern. But I just stood up, and left with my head down as usual. I have been through this countless times in my life, it wasn't the first time, and by the looks of it, it won't be the last.

No matter how much time passes, no matter what world I'm in, the wounds from my past always bleed again. Or maybe it never stopped bleeding...

Following what the tavern keeper said, I head towards the right, towards the furthest place possible. The tavern keeper said I would know, and I think I understood what he meant. As I walked through town I spotted a black-haired girl, her hair was short and her clothes were dirty and battered. At that moment I just caught sight of her from afar, so I just went on my way. But I remember that she was carrying things from one place to another and I could see her walking all over the city carrying very heavy things.

Now that I see her up close, she is coming back with an empty basket (where she was carrying things) in her hands. I approached her and asked her if she knew where the slave trader was. As soon as I got close to her, she jumped in fright and closed her eyes in fear, as if I was going to assault her. Her breathing became very fast and she started to apologize continuously.

- "C-Calm down, please, I just want to know the location of the slave seller."

As soon as she heard that, her black eyes that are very beautiful became... I don't know... colorless, as if she was a machine. Her shy, feminine voice became pragmatic and serious. Taking a good look at her, her arms, her legs are full of bruises and her clothes were not like that by chance... I already turned everything on.

- "Sure, I'll take you there."

She's a slave.
