Chapter 12:

Second Mission: Uprising

Machine Heart

"H-hey, are you okay?"

Ziegler said as he looked at K-111 motionless staring into the void with white eyes.

But he couldn't hear him.

"Listen boy, your second mission starts now, you have to suppress the ongoing rebellion with blood, cover your face, go down, and kill them all, that's it."

"But boss, I'm unarmed, how can I take them all out?"

"Mr. Ziegler hasn't given you anything yet?

Talk to him, he will provide what you need."

K-111 came to his senses, and looked at the man, who meanwhile kept talking to him while he was helpless.

"What happened to you?

Are you okay?"

"My boss gave me orders to quell the ongoing riot, told me you would supply me with the proper equipment."

"Very well, follow me."

The man accompanied K-111 inside another office present in the corridor.

"What are we supposed to do here?"

Without saying a word, the man walked to the desk at the end of the room and threw it to the floor.

"What the fuck are you doing?

The crowd is getting closer."

"Just watch."

Next the man lifted a piece of mochette from the floor that concealed a trapdoor with a ladder.

"What the..."

"Come on down."

The two descended into a completely dark room, took a few steps' until the man stopped and said, "Just watch."

The light came on, showing in the center of the room a kind of small pillar with a screen facing upward.

Ziegler placed a hand on it, and a robotic voice said, "COMMANDS UNLOCKED, IDENTIFY APPLICANT"

"Place your hand on the display."

And so it did.

"SUBJECT RECOGNITION IN PROGRESS....

SUBJECT RECOGNIZED.

SUBJECT NUMBER : 111.

SUBJECT NAME : K.

SPECIAL RESOURCES ACTIVATION."

The pillar retreated into the ground, and from the back of the huge secret room, a red light accompanied by a warning sound began to flash.

The man moved slightly to the side of the room.

"Watch outl."

"Watch out for what?"

Suddenly a whistling sound began to get closer and closer to K-111, and he immediately understood.

He stood on guard, and with a jerky movement he picked it up.

It was a new knife.

"You sure have some pretty strange methods here," he said.

"I didn't design it, so don't blame me."

Looking at it closely, however, he immediately noticed one thing.

It was undoubtedly a butterfly knife, but it was definitely different from his own.

It was much larger and heavier, had a double-edged, black blade with its new owner's name engraved on it.

The two handles were much more ergonomic, and there were colored LEDs all over them.

At the base of the blade, where the handle part began, was a red, round button with a small "BUTTERFLY EFFECT" inscription, plus the small safety pin that held the knife closed was different than usual.

"Try pulling it."

The pin once pulled made a sort of click, the LEDs began to flash, and the huge blade began to first turn an intense red, and then brightened and became so bright that it blinded them both.

"This is the red-hot mode, the blade of this knife was made of a material of extreme hardness, and it also functions as a resistor, which means that through an electronic connection it can be heated to such high temperatures that it can melt ordinary metal.

And that's not all, by rotating the pin, you can use other functions, but you'll have plenty of time to try them later."

"Wait, and what is the red button for?"

"That's the one...

Well, why don't you go out there and try it yourself?"

"You got it."

K-111 climbed the metal ladders, ran into the elevator from the hallway, and once inside, hit the switch to go down.

However being on a rather high floor it would take a while to get down to the ground floor.

Looking at his new knife, and remembering Ziegler's words, a crazy idea crossed his mind.

C.C.'s orders were inescapable for him, and he would do anything to fulfill them.

So he decided to do it; he had full confidence in Big Government's words.

He activated the red-hot mode of the knife, and with a series of very fast lashings, he melted the glass elevator roof, but without breaking it, and then climbed into the shaft and cut, with a clean stroke the thick ropes of braided wire that held him suspended.

The boy began a long and very fast free fall to the void, during which he began to prepare himself.

He put on the hood of his sweatshirt so that he would remain covered, and as he watched the ground approach, he crouched down to remain steady during the descent.

8th floor.

7th floor.

6th floor.

5th floor.

"Now!"

With a backward leap he attached himself to the wall and keeping the motion of the fall, with a spring effect, he took a leap, smashing through the glass window in front of him.
