Chapter 8:

The Mansion

Void in the Realm

“Welcome home!” Dr. Myra was invited home as if they were expecting for her. “I am Samantha Sanders, this is Treyton Sanders and these are our two kids, Lev and Leona.” “Hello! I am Kendra,” Dr. Myra introduced herself with her middle name. Lev and Leona are 12 year old twins. They had beautiful golden eyes inherited from their mother. Treyton had dark brown eye color. Lev was holding a puppy that had three eyes. Sanders gave a warm welcome to Dr. Myra. “Let us give you a quick home tour of the portion you will be living in,” Samantha insisted walking towards a huge two sided door with a lot of intricate details that kept changing every second. “You could change the settings of the door and the entrance key as you wish anytime you would like. From today, only you would have access to this door. This is the entrance to your stay from the inside.” Samantha said, getting into the door. There was a huge living room with a chandler on top of the ceiling that had layered rings. A traditional wooden sofa with cushions on it. All electronic devices were voice controlled. “Is there a place where I could purchase new furniture?” Dr. Myra Kendra asked. “Oh Kendra! which furniture would you like to change dear?” Samantha asked politely.
“I would like to purchase a new couch.” Samantha handed over a small transparent device that one could hold with a palm. “Choose the one you like,” Samantha’s eyes widened with excitement. “Okay,” Dr. Myra Kendra swiped and ended up picking one as it looked very comfortable and apt to the living room. She likes having a peaceful looking place as home is where she comes to rest and enjoy the weekend with friends. She started to miss home suddenly. She had a bunch of friends with whom she hangs out and travels around with.
Once she clicked the couch, she had two options, trial and purchase. She clicked the trail and it appeared right in front of her. First she thought it was a holographic version but it looked so real. She sat on the couch and she could feel it. “Amazing! I love this couch and I would like to purchase it,” Dr. Kendra excitedly said. “Sure, then hit purchase,” Samantha said. “How will I pay for it?” “Don’t worry about it, it will be taken care of. Your expenses will be recorded each time you use any of the devices.” “How does it know that I purchased it? It could have been anyone right?” “Once you hold the device, it reads your palm and measures its size. When you hit any of the buttons on the device, it reads your thumbprint and accordingly allocates your expenses directly to your open expenditure account,” Samantha explained. “Mind blowing!” Kendra’s face was lit with a smile.
“A couple more questions! Where is the other sofa? What if I want to keep that one too?” Kendra asked.
“It got returned and that cost will be deducted with the one you purchased. There will be a check box at the end of the purchase asking if you would like to keep the old one,” Treyton answered walking with Lev.
Kendra looked so enthusiastic to know more about the house.
There was a dining room with different beverage options to one side of the room and there was a kitchen on the other side. There were top chef food options available. With a click, the food was automatically prepared in home style.
“Let’s go to the rooms. To get there there are three options for now. And of course, you may change it anytime you like. One is an elevator, next, a rock climbing gym; if you feel like doing an intense out on the way to your room and regular stairs,” Lev showed.
“May I ask who the previous owner was? They seem to be adventurous,” Kendra asked
“Honestly this portion was arranged only after you got recruited for your job Dr. Kendra. Before that, it was an empty space that was vacant for the new employee," Samantha said while searching for the keycode to the first room.
“I was asked to take a personality test. Wow! Now it explains why I like this house so much,” Kendra said.
“This is your first room,” Treyton opened the door and waited for Kendra to get in. “It is a regular bedroom like how I used to live back in universe 435 and it had a balcony with a wonderful view,” Dr. Myra thought to herself. “It is exactly how I described one of the questions they asked in my personality test,” Kendra said. “It’s scary and exciting at the same time,” she thought to herself. The next room was a game room. When they opened the door, it was a huge game area with all sorts of board games, VR video games, laser tag, zip liner, arcade and a huge waterfall down the hall. “It is definitely like a dream,” Kendra told Samantha. “I am glad you like all these. Let us go down and have some dinner,” Treyton said. Lev was with Treyton in the game room and he couldn’t take his eyes off the room. “Let us play here together sometime when we both are available,” Kendra smiled at Lev. “Yay! I would love to, Kendra,” Lev started jumping.
Kendra switched the lift option to a slide and purchased it. Lev and Kendra chose to slide down. Both the Sanders used the stairs. "You do have an option to come straight from outside to your stay area and that is this way," Treyton showed the outer entrance that had a beautiful entrance area.
Leona was already present in the common dining room outside of the common door. All sat down and had a lavish dinner with a variety of options. Once the dinner was done Kendra took leave and went back to her stay area.
“Why am I given this whole mansion with such sophisticated facilities? Is it a privilege or a trap?” Kendra thought to herself settling down on the sofa. Suddenly, a screen appeared where Luther was online. “Hello Dr. Myra! Make yourself comfortable and have some rest tonight. Tomorrow is a big day,” he sent a video message. She first thought it was a video call but it wasn’t. Dr. Myra sent back a video message, “Hello! Looking forward to working with you starting tomorrow Dr. Luther.”
