Chapter 1:

As It Was, Part 1

Every Side of the World

The world was once vast and empty. With no trees, water, or even grass, the world was just a piece of land filled with dirt. Without a single footprint, the dirt stayed flat and caused the world to look lifeless. It stayed like this for many years until the species known as Ancestrals arrived. No one knows how they arrived or where they arrived from, but they were the first inhabitants, thus giving them the name, the First Beings. There were 5 in total, and it is said that each of these 5 were similar with minor differences.

The First Ancestral did not have a name, but the First Ancestral was the leader of the 5. The First Ancestral was said to be the Perfect Ancestral with the rest of the Ancestrals trying to follow. Each Ancestral had different traits that stemmed from the First Ancestral. In addition, the First Ancestral was also known to have foresight, the ability to look into the future.

The Ancestral known as Dwarfitch was the most careful among the others. Dwarfitch was the shortest with a heftier body, but Dwarfitch was the mastermind of crafting. It is said that Dwarfitch crafted plenty of weapons, mountains, and sculptures.

The Ancestral known as Elflin was the most graceful among the others. Elfin had pointy ears that looked as if they could cut someone by touching them. It is said that Elfin created the trees, grass, and supplied the beauty to the world.

The Ancestral known as Humanim was the most adaptable among the others. Humanim seemed to be the closest resemblance to the First Ancestral in terms of looks. It is said that Humanim acted as the second leader if the First Ancestral was not there. While Humanim assisted the other Ancestrals, it always seemed that ulterior motives were the reason.

The Ancestral known as Demonity was the kindest among the others. Demonity also had the closest resemblance to the First Ancestral in terms of looks, but Demonity always grew horns out when angry or frustrated. It is said that Demonity always helped the other Ancestrals with whatever tasks they needed assistance with.

With the First Beings overseeing the world, everything was prosperous. The land was green and vibrant with life, mountains and structures differentiated one area from another, and the diplomacy between the First Beings was good. Every morning, they would have a meeting to discuss how they wanted to enrich the land, but it also served as a way for the Ancestrals to grow stronger bonds with one another. It was a peaceful time that shaped the beginning. However, everything was fine until the Great Disaster occurred.

The Great Disaster was created from jealousy, deceit, and the greed for power. While Dwarfitch and Elfin continued on with their daily duties, Humanim and Demonity had a closer relationship with the First Ancestral. During a meeting one day, a discussion was held about who the next leader would be once the First Ancestral disappeared. The First Ancestral knew when and where their death would occur, but it was kept a secret. While Humanim and Demonity didn’t understand what the First Ancestral meant by disappear, they did understand that a new leader was going to rise. However, the First Ancestral never selected a leader.

Days continued to pass, but the First Ancestral never disappeared. There was frustration from one of the potential leaders, and that frustration was taken out on Dwarfitch and Elfin. The smooth mountains that Dwarfitch carefully constructed had holes and caves formed inside. The tree trunks of the trees that Elfin created now were rough and uneven. Fearing dissonance among the other Ancestrals, Elfin and Dwarfitch stayed silent as their marvelous creations had now taken new forms. Even though they stayed silent, the First Ancestral reported the findings to Humanim and Demonity. However, the First Ancestral said that it must always be kept a secret, because it will cause disaster.

Months continued to pass, but the First Ancestral still didn’t disappear. At this point, one of the potential leaders decided that a new leader needed to be elected now. The Ancestral decided to take actions into their own hands as they only seeked rule and power. While pretending to seek out the First Ancestral for a meeting, the Ancestral struck a weapon through the body of the First Ancestral.

“This was the only way for the greater good of the world,” were the final words spoken by the First Ancestral as a look of sadness appeared. As clear liquid seeped out of the First Ancestral, the prediction of disappearing had unfortunately come true. The First Ancestral faded away as if their presence was never in the world.

The next day came, and all of the Ancestrals gathered for their daily meeting with the First Ancestral but the meeting never occurred. All of the Ancestrals searched and searched, but a body was never found. Confusion and panic formed between the Ancestrals until a voice came out.

“I know who did it,” Humanim announced.

“Who did it?” asked all three Ancestrals at the same time.

“It was you!” Humanim said as he pointed at one of the Ancestrals.

The other two pairs of eyes darted towards the Ancestral that Humanim pointed to.
