Chapter 108:

The diary

So What If I'm a Girl

General Kuang stared at the tube, his eyes were so focused that he didn't realise that his hands were gripping the chair and has already crushed the arm rest.

He wanted to reach out and grab the tube but suddenly realised where he was, he stared at Lan Du before taking in a deep breath.

"Alright, I cannot give you my support, but I will agree to the other half, I'll have people work on that matter once I return, now, about the blood" His eyes were glued on the tube, he could feel the chill even from where he was seated and was certain it was Mo An's blood.

Lan Du snickered

"How will I know you won't go back?" She questioned

General Kuang clenched his fists tighter

"I will swear upon my title that I will fulfil my end of the deal without any shortcomings" He replied

Lan Du nodded her head and tossed the tube over

"Be careful with that, I had to trade quite a lot of things to get my hands on it, I don't know why you need that blood, but I'm guessing it's for the eternal frost coma, your wife? Friend? Family?" Lan Du asked casually

General Kuang shuddered

"My best friend" He replied

Lan Du shrugged her shoulders

"I was out of place for asking, since our deal is done, we will be strangers from now on, and tell your son to stop staring at my chest, it's just bound using bandages" Lan Du growled

Kuang Ren wasn't actually staring at her chest, but he was staring in that general direction as he was curious how Lan Du's small body was able to handle many of the people in the previous room.

He saw bruises on them, it was clear that she beat them before drugging them.

But he was stunned when he heard what she said

"T-They're bound? Doesn't it hurt?" He was taken by surprise, he stared intensely at Lan Du's chest, making her feel disgruntled and flicked his head.

"Had a good view? If so, go dig out your own eyes before I do it for you" Lan Du said jokingly, but there was a trace of seriousness in her eyes.

Kuang Ren immediately retracted his gaze

Lan Du sighed and waved her hand

"I hope we never come across each other again" She said and left the scene, she took in a dep breath and sat down at an empty seat at the corner of the hall.

She leaned her head back and crossed her legs

"There's still quite some time before the banquet ends, what to do while I wait..." She muttered to herself, she looked around but nothing seemed to have caught her eyes.

As she was looking around with a bored look in her eyes, she noticed Yuan Cai walking towards her. His eyes were filled with a hint of determination to find out the truth.

Seeing him walk over, a gentle smile filled Lan Du's face

Yuan Cai frowned

"Is that smile even real? I don't know anymore...are you really my sister?" He questioned

Lan Du's smile soon became a smirk

"The smile was real, but the intentions were not, as for being your sister...ask Yuan Min yourself, but even if I am, I'm not a sister you'd want" Lan Du crackled as she turned her head down to look at her nails.

"How sharp do you think my nails need to be to pierce someone's throat" Lan Du muttered to herself

Yuan Cai's confusion only increased

He genuinely wanted to know the truth, but Lan Du was making things difficult for him.

"Why, why won't you answer my questions?" He asked

Lan Du chuckled

"Because you are just like him, that stubborn ability to pester me, it's disgusting, once you find out about something, you two will never drop it, unlike your heads when I obtain them" Lan Du replied, her eyes seemed to be a bit lifeless, as if she was tired of everything.

Yuan Cai's fists clenched, he slammed his hand against the chair Lan Du sat on, and his fist was just an inch away from her face.

"Oh ho? Is my dear brother becoming defiant? How cute, let's fix that, shall we?" A cold smile appeared on her face as she grabbed his arm and pulled him in.

One hand covered his mouth whilst the other clenched the arm tightly.

She stared him in his eyes, which now expressed a sense of fear and danger. Like a bell ringing in his head, Yuan Cai wanted to pull himself away but found out his strength was vastly inferior to that of Lan Du.

He then felt a force grab onto his arm

"mghf"

His voice became muffled and no one could hear him, fear consumed his heart as Lan Du's grip tightened. He wanted to run, he wanted to escape and even fight back, but all this was in vain.

Lan Du's cold smile buried deep into his heart as he felt his bone shift.

"mrff!" He tried to cry out, but no sounds could be voiced by him.

Seeing him struggle so much, Lan Du's cold smile soon became excited and sadistic. As if she was toying with an ant, she seemed to enjoy every moment of her brother's suffering.

"In the mood to be obedient now?" Lan Du whispered into his ears, tears were rolling down his face as he nodded his head.

"Good boy" She patted his head and released her grip.

Yuan Cai's teary face made her smile even more, he stood there staring at her with a vengeful gaze. Lan Du chuckled and patted the seat she was seated in.

"Sit down, my dear brother" She said sweetly

Yuan Cai could only do as he was told, he has learnt one important thing after knowing his sister a little more.

Her smiles could never be trusted...

Lan Du wrapped an arm over his shoulder as if they were very close and leaned back.

"You may keep asking, but as for whether they'd be answered, that depends on the questions you ask" Lan Du said warmly, though it only caused Yuan Cai's fear and hatred to deepen.

He stared at her coldly

"Why are you doing this? Are we not a family?" He asked seriously, however, this question made Lan Du burst into laughter.

Her smile was genuine and if Yuan Cai had not known her at all, he'd say she was beautiful. Her smiles were bright and cute, but her attitude scared him.

"What's so funny?" He growled

Lan Du glanced at him with a playful gaze

"This-this is a personal matter, we'll speak when we get home, but this is too funny!" She didn't stop laughing as she patted his shoulders.

"You're much funnier than I thought, maybe I won't be too harsh on you in the future" But her voice was slightly threatening.

Yuan Cai couldn't help but shudder, but he didn't dare look her straight in the eye. He then heard footsteps, when he looked up, as if he saw a ray of hope in front of him, his eyes lit up.

The pain in his arm disappeared as he saw his father approaching

Lan Du smiled casually as her eyes sharpened, Yuan Min's arrival didn't make her flustered Not in the slightest, in fact, she was waiting for him to appear.

"Had enough of seeing your son enjoying himself with me?" Lan Du chuckled and pinched Yuan Cai's cheeks

Yuan Min saw Yuan Cai's bruised up arm and his watery eyes, he couldn't help but feel his heart break. His son has just been harmed by his own daughter, how can he tolerate this?

His eyes grew dark as he glared at Lan Du

"We're leaving, and you...stay away from Cai'er" He growled as he supported his son up and walked to the entrance.

Lan Du's smile disappeared, it was replaced with a dead look in her eye

"Mother, what did you see in this man? Why can't you forget him?" Lan Du held her head with a pained expression on her face.

"For you, mother...I'll do anything for you" She muttered to herself

Lan Du stood up, her head felt light and was also a bit pale. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a lollipop in which she savoured. Her pale face soon returned its colours and her head no longer rang.

Outside, she saw Yuan Min getting into the car, he didn't wait for her, and drove off...

Seeing this, Lan Du laughed

"A petty person, but it makes it more fun for when I break them" Lan Du chuckled

She took out her phone and rang

"Xiao Bai, pick me up, I'm coming back" Lan Du said casually, she walked into the trees and took out a bottle of water.

She began washing the dye out of her hair and removed the skin mask she wore. A cold smile emerged as she slowly walked out.

Her clothes were changed and the moonlight shone upon her cold smile.

"Yuan Min, you are to blame for this, I never went back on my promise" Lan Du giggled and walked into the darkness of the streets.

Her steps froze when she heard the sound of a car stopping. She turned her head and saw Xiao Bai through the window, he had a worried expression as he opened the door

"What happened the last few days? I was worried sick" He muttered

"You should know my situation" She said lightly

Xiao Bai nodded and got back into the car.

"So...are you back for good?" He asked

Lan Du shook her head

"I need to appear as his daughter once in a while so he wouldn't connect Lan Yu with Lan Du, I have made some preparations for this, but it isn't enough" She muttered

Xiao Bai sighed in pity before driving off, Lan Du smiled and patted his head.

"It's good to know that you will always be with me...I won't be able to see the twins for a long while, so Xiao Bai, you're one of the few I have left" Lan Du said gently

Xiao Bai's lips trembled, but he nodded his head as he tried to hold back his tears.

Currently, Yuan Min was treating Yuan Cai's arm, it was swollen and turning purple but it wasn't broken. He applied an ointment which reduced the swelling at a visible rate.

Yuan Cai's eyes were still bitter

"Father, who is sister...I thought I understood her when we met, but as time went on, I found out I knew nothing about her at all" He muttered

He looked around, it was the house Lan Du lived in. He has never been to this house so he was curious since Yuan Min seemed to be familiar with it.

Yuan Min bit hi slips

"I guess it is time for you to know her past..." He hesitated before he opened his mouth, as if it was the toughest thing to even speak.

Yuan Min listened, the more he did, the more shocked he was. His own sister, someone who was neglected by Yuan Min for 12 years. He never knew of her existence, nor did he know who she was, until Lan Du called out mother in Lan Xin's ward.

He felt sympathetic towards Lan Du, but even more shocking was Lan Du's extreme attitude towards Yuan Min's care for her. As if she was dodging bullets, she avoided all the care he wished to give her.

From her escape to when she threw money at him so she owed him nothing.

Yuan Cai's pupils shrunk

"She...does she hate me as well?" He asked

Yuan Min paused before nodding, his hesitation was clear.

"You...were basically a hostage for her, a shield for when I wish to do anything to her" He muttered

Yuan Cai was further stunned by his father's words.

"A hostage? Why? I never knew her in the first place, why does she want to harm me?"

"Because you're my son, she sees anyone related to me as nothing more than scums, I know you're innocent, but you must stay away from her from now on" He placed a hand on Yuan Cai's shoulder and said

Yuan Cai moved his hand away

"But...sister she-she has suffered so much, I want to help her" He stated

Yuan Min's eyes grew sharp as he slapped Yuan Cais face

"I didnt want this either! I love you both dearly, but if you go close to her, you'll be killed without even knowing! Do you know how hurt I was when I saw you get hurt by your own sister? If you want to help her, stay away from her from now on, it was my mistake for letting you know her" His eyes were red and his his hands were trembling.

The slap left a red mark on Yuan Cai's face, but he understood. However, in his heart, he still wanted to help Lan Du out. He didn't want to be idle after listening to his sister's story.

Yuan Min the lifted his hand and placed it gently on Yuan Cai's cheek.

"I'm sorry, I got too worked up...but please, don't go near her, until I can resolve her issue, please stay safe" He said gently

Yuan Cai looked down

"Yes father"

His eyes dimmed, he then looked around the room. It was well furnished but it felt strangely empty. He din't understand why, but thi shouse, which was so full, felt empty inside his heart.

"Father, this house..." He asked

Yuan Min sighed

"This was the place I used to live in before the military command came down, it wasn't after I left that your sister was born, she lived here with her mother" He replied

Yuan Cai's curiosity grew, he wondered around and soon came across a room. He opened the door and opened it, inside was a well decorated room, it had a pleasant smell and gave him a feeling of comfort.

He walked around, he began looking through books inside, they would be on teh shelves and some are under the bed but he looked through it all.

Some were fairy tails, whilst others were full blown novels. But there was one book that caught his eye, it was a diary.

At the front, it wrote [Lan Lan's diary], it was written in a very childish way and maybe was written by a child.

'Is this sister's?'

He opened to the first page

[Today, Lan'er is four, mummy taught Lan Lan about daddy, I heard he was the strongest and was very amazing]

Below was an image of Yuan Min, it seemed to have been glued in messily, but agve it a cute sense of child innocence.

He then continued reading

[When will daddy be home? Lan'er is waiting for daddy, mummy said he will be back tomorrow, but mummy said the same thing for the past year...does daddy hate us?]

His lips trembled as he read, he looked up at the date and his pupils shrunk, it was three and a half years after he was born...

'I-I took father away from her, he was always there with me...' A sudden burst of guilt rose in his heart, like surging waves, he found it hard to suppress it.

[Mummy is beginning to act weird, she would begin crying in her room, but when she sees me, she just smiles like nothing happened, is it daddy? When will daddy be back?]

He felt as if something was slamming against his heart, the more he read, the more he wanted to cry.

[I see daddy on the television! He looks so cool, but why is he never at home? Mummy is beginning to act more weird, whenever I ask the maids, they say she's fine, but mummy isn't! She's crying, what do I do?]

[Lan'er is now 5, but daddy still isn't home, I always sit at the front, waiting for him...is it because Lan'er is bad? But Lan'er never does bad things, mummy also says Lan Lan is a good girl]

Below was a cute image of Lan Du, it was much neater than the previous images and below the image wrote one sentence.

[My baby is growing up, she is so cute!]

Yuan Cai stroked the image of Lan Du's past, she had a big innocent smile and her eyes shone broghter than the stars at night.

'She was so young back then...'

[Lan Lan is now 6! But when will daddy come home? Now, mummy is taking medicine, she's crying much more often and acts strange, daddy, please come home, mummy isn't in good shape]

[Lan'er was just bullied in school...but mummy is sick, I can't bother her, Lan Lan will become stronger and protect myself, it hurts, but mummy said daddy will come back if I am good, Lan Lan will be a good girl]

Yuan Cai was soon lost in the memory of Lan Du, the deeper he read, the more guilty he felt.

[Today is Lan Lan's 7th birthday, mother seems more down than usual, she would often look out the window and is acting weird...is she...using me to replace father? But she si happy when I dress like a boy, I'll do it for her, I will forever be her replacement, even if I have to live as my father's shadow...for her]

The wording suddenly became more mature, he was shocked by the sudden development, the cuteness in the writing no longer existed, it was replaced with a trace of independance and coldness.

[I was once again bullied at school...but why have I lived like this? Why am I trying to be a good girl? Wouldn't getting injured hurt mother even more?]
