Chapter 7:

Ghosts (Erika's Perspective)

The Skeleton & The Idiot Sorceress

(Erika's Perspective)

"Mr. Arno, what's that noise?" I asked.

... nothing. It was so dark I couldn’t see anything.

"Um, are you there?...hello." I asked again.

I reached out to where he was standing next to me, but there was a wall there now…

“That's weird, how did that wall get there?”

I touch my finger to my cheek as I thought.

“Hmmm... Was I separated from Mr. Arno?…”

"UH OH!"

I felt a bit of panic overcame me.

“What am I going to do? How am I going to get out of here? Mr. Arno is like really smart and stuff. He would know what to do in this situation… Wait!”

I needed to stay calm. I was able to make it all the way to the bottom of this dungeon on my own, I'm sure I could manage to find him and get out of here.

I assessed my surroundings. The wall in front of me somehow appeared out of thin air, which meant either this wall magically appeared or I teleported somewhere else… or there was the possibility that Mr. Arno got turned into a wall and this wall right here was actually him.

I turned to the wall so I was face to face with it.

"Excuse me, Mr. Arno, did you get turned into this wall?"

He didn't answer.

"Listen, if you can't talk, give me some sort of sign that this wall is you."

*Silence*

I was starting to think maybe he didn't actually get turned into a wall. If that was the case, maybe I could try breaking it down. I played with blocks as a child. It's a similar concept, just larger. If I used enough force I might be able to push it over. I was probably pretty strong for a girl around my age… At least I hoped so. I never actually met another girl my age before.

I stepped back a few feet from the wall, as I took a deep breath and ran at full speed towards it…

*Smack*

I saw stars as I impacted.

"OW!" I rubbed my head, while my eyes were tearing up a bit.

The wall didn't budge. I was on the ground now and my forehead felt sore and was probably bruised.

*Woooooo*

A strange noise started out of nowhere. The room suddenly got really cold. A subtle greenish glow started to resonate In front of me. It started to grow moment by moment and began to take shape.

A voice spoke, "Are you actually crying?"

"No… I'm not crying (I actually was a little bit). Who’s there anyways?" I replied.

The green glow formed into a floating blob thingy with two eyes and a mouth. It hovered directly in front of me.

"I'm a ghost and coincidentally my name is also Gost, but it's spelled G-O-S-T. That actually happened to be my name before I died." He responded.

"It's nice to meet you. I didn't think ghosts actually were that stereotypical blob shape like you see in picture books."

He chuckled a bit.

"Ghosts can take on any shape, this one just happens to be the easiest to maintain… By the way, were you serious when you were talking to that wall and charged at it?"

"Yes of course I was serious. I’m trying to find Mr. Arno" I said.

He started hysterically laughing.

"Hahaha, you hear that guys, she was actually serious. Your first instinct was to assume your friend turned into a wall? You know you probably weigh less than one hundred twenty pounds. Did you really think you could knock that wall over on your own?"

A few more ghosts manifested and joined in the laughter. I'm not really sure what these guys are laughing about, but they kind of creeped me out. I grabbed the whistle around my neck and brought it up to my lips.

"Fweeeeeet," I blew with all my breath.

The ghosts stopped laughing and looked at me with puzzled looks.

"What the heck is she doing?" Gost exclaimed to his group.

Hmmm... It still wasn't working. I was beginning to think that maybe...just maybe... the reason nobody was responding to my whistle was because I'm deep within a secluded labyrinth and there were no authorities around to hear it… Of course! Why didn't I think of that sooner?

"Hey, are you okay? What's with the whistle?" Gost asked me.

"I'm fine... It's nothing... It's just that I think I realized something and now I kind of feel like a dummy." I replied.

"Well listen, I kind of feel bad now for laughing. We were going to have you traverse this whole maze in the dark, but I feel like that would be cruel to do that to someone like you. I'll just lead you to the exit myself."

One of the other ghosts chimed in,

"Are you really okay with this Gost? I thought we were going to make this as annoying as possible for the skeleton and since she's a companion of his and all-"

Ghost whispered to the other ghost,

"Yeah I know, but I think this girl is a bit simple. I would feel bad doing that to someone like her... Look, I'm only going to help her. The skeleton is on his own."

"Um what are you guys whispering about?" I asked.

"Nothing... Just follow me. I'll lead you out of here."

I proceeded to follow Gost. I wasn’t sure what Mr. Arno meant about them not being so nice. They're a little weird, but these ghosts seemed fine to me.
