Chapter 3:

What's a KurtzPel?

My Mentor is A Jerk But I Love Him?!

Seeing her confused look Ensher could only smile as she led her back to the courtyard, the orb of energy glowing brilliantly as its rings turned further enhancing its presence.

"Pretty..."

"Isn't it? It's Ancient Technology we discovered when we arrived here."

Ensher then clasped her hands together lightly as they soon glowed producing an image that startled Kiizu as soon the image became clear and went from a faint silver light into a pink representation of a flower that grew brighter as Kiizu reached for it out of instinct.

"See? You do have the potential to being one of us."

"Us?"

Offering the flower to hold, Ensher continued walking ahead as Kiizu held the flower trailing behind her.

"I'm not surprised Kien didn't explain more but it's understandable. A KurtzPel, is a figure capable of drawing out the knowledge and experiences of our ancestors before The Great Change."

As they approached the teleporter, Ensher turned to her then gesturing to the beam of light in the distance.

"Our mission is the stop our enemies from destroying the efforts of what our ancestors fought for. However, we are few and every one of you are essential to our victory. You have a choice Kiizu, to fight those that destroyed your home or to hide from and live in fear of them the rest of your days."

Ensher stretched out a hand to her with a smile, the setting sun illuminating her presence figure as Kiizu reflected over what had happened just the night before.

'I have nowhere to go...and... I won't be able to be with him again if I leave...'

Shaking her head, Kiizu looked up firmly taking her hand gently as her ears perked at her soft grasp. Ensher could only giggle at this reaction as they shook hands confirming the decision made.

"It is settled, you will report for training immediately tomorrow. As you are a special guest of Kien's he can take care of the sleeping arrangements, won't you Kien?"

"I don't recall babysitting as part of my job Ensher..."

The young boy stepped out of the shadows behind Kiizu which took her by surprise as he crossed his arms grimly looking at her. Ensher sighed then pointing at him with a fierce look of disapproval.

"Your behavior is unfitting, and you need to get along with your peers Kien. Kiizu will be your assistant and apprentice for the time being until her Karma awakens. I expect you to care for her and show her the ropes just like you've done when we were kids."

"...Tch."

Turning his head, Kien looked at Kiizu, his bright golden eyes pierced her as all she could do was quietly look away blushing with her tail moving in response to his gaze.

"That was a long time ago Ensher, you can't expect me to raise another crybaby who'll just slow me down."

From this remark Ensher immediately went up to him as they began staring each other down as Kiizu watched wondering what would result of this confrontation.

"Y-You! Idiot! Meanie! I can't believe you'd be so rude to your sister!"

"....."

As Ensher began sobbing and pounding on his chest, Kien simply scoffed at her attempt to scold him as he could merely grin lightly though what he didn't realize was that Kiizu was able to see his smile even if it was just a little one.

'So... cute!'

"Hmm?"

Kien had almost forgotten she was still there watching the little squabble unfold and his smile quickly faded then remembering what a fool he was to let such emotions slide.

"Fine, now stop crying Ensher. Aren't you supposed to be checking up on the late-night reports anyway?"

"Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!"

Kiizu could only giggle in response to Ensher's demeanor as she looked up sniffling at Kien who sighed in response to this. Palming his face with a hand he reluctantly continued.

"It's getting late, I don't have time for more of you squabbling tonight."

Attempting to walk away from the sobbing girl Kien approached Kiizu who could only puff her cheeks at him then pointing at him.

"Why are you so mean to her? Can't you…apologize to her?"

"Hmm?"

What first came out as a confident statement slowly sped into an awkward question from her as Kien could only look confused at this request of hers but then continued walking past her as Kiizu turned to see the figure disappear.

"Your training starts tomorrow, Ensher will show you to your quarters."

"Meanie!"

Ensher pouted and attempted to collect herself only to pitifully clean her glasses as she turned to Kiizu.

"I'm sorry about that Kiizu, he's just..."

Kiizu's ears were twitching as her flushed face and fingers nervously tapping against one another allowed Ensher to laugh once more at this scene.

"Perhaps you will be of some help for him."

"R-Really?"

"Of course!"

Patting her head, Ensher could only give her support for Kiizu's feelings to which her ears softened along with her tail curling in satisfaction.

"Now, it's best you get some rest. I'll show you to our room."

Taking her hand, Ensher began walking towards the teleporter as Kiizu tugged on her hand.

"Our?"

"Of course! Teamwork is essential for KurtzPel, so you'll be training with others and living with them as part of your everyday life here."

"Does that mean...we're friends?"

Immediately taking this moment to embrace her, Kiizu was stunned by Ensher's sudden hug to which she could feel comfort and love in her heart.

"Of course! We've already made memories together!"

"Friends..."

Kiizu could only smile returning the hug as they took a moment to smile and laugh together then walking down the steps into the portal.

"Now, when we arrive. You'll have new clothes for you, I noticed your clothes are a little tattered, but you still look cute despite traveling all night."

"Well, Kien carried me here actually..."

"Did he now? That's...interesting! Tell me more about it!"

Ensher's eyes perked up with excitement as Kiizu was startled by the sudden reaction as the portal began to shift as they soon disappeared from the Headquarters. A figure stood in the distance, her ears perked as she weaved through a tome in hand, a smile crept on her lips.

"Tomorrow's going to be so much fun..."

As the figure walked back into the building, her tail waved as if imagining an audience watching her.
