Chapter 6:

Changes.

Hang in There Mister Guard!

Ikeda-san decided to listen to what his friend suggested to him, and decided to do a bit of a shuffle in the positioning of all the guards, before they could start their turn he called everybody to the security room and decided to explain the situation to them. Everybody but Ryoichi, who was making rounds waiting for everybody to get on their positions.

“Well, now that everybody is here I have an announcement to make, starting today, we are going to have different designated areas to the one we have been working on.”

“Eh? Why?” Asked somebody.

“Because it is good for us to change our locations, it is a good practice, and also it might be good for ourselves to be somewhere new.”

“I agree.” Said Ikeda’s friend. “We should have done this rotation a long time ago.”

“But… I don’t know, it is not so easy to go to a different area, I mean, everybody in my area already knows me, and knows when my lunch time is…”

“That is exactly the case, what if someone in that area decides to rob the mall one day? They will know exactly when you are gone, so that way they can act.”

“Eh?”

“But…”

“I don’t know.”

The room suddenly filled with little chats about how most of them disagreed with the idea, some of them partially agreed, but no one was truly convinced.

Suddenly a strong voice coming from the entrance interrupted everybody.

“It is true that having the staff changing positions is a good practice, however…” Said as he advanced towards the center of the room. “Doing this change right now is too sudden, if we were to execute this plan we need more time, first we need to let management know, and if they give us green light then we need to let all the staff know where their new positions are going to be.”

“Morita-san, I thought you were doing rounds.” Said Ikeda.

“I was, but everybody was taking so long that I thought something might have happen.”

“Thank God you came.” Said one of the guards.

“Yeah, you really saved us.” Continued another one.

“I’ll tell you what, I will speak to the manager and if he believes we should do this rearrangement I will let you know, but I don’t know if this will take place from next week onwards or maybe even later than that. For the time being, everybody: go to your respective positions, the turn is about to start.”

“Yes!” Replied everybody in unison.

And so the room began to get empty again, Ikeda also attempted to go but he was stopped by Ryoichi.

“Ikeda-san, one moment please.”

He obeyed and went next to him.

“Yes, sir?”

“Do you have a paper in which you enlisted the new areas in which everybody was supposed to be assigned?”

“I do, here it is.”

And he handed him a notebook sheet in which he wrote everybody’s new area. Ryoichi gave it a quick look and answered:

“Thank you for your hard work, I will hand this to management and they will make a decision on it. Now let’s get to work.”

“Yes, as you order.”
