Chapter 12:

You're under arrest

Bitter-Sweet

Kayla couldn't tell the girls at home what had happened between her and Alethea. When she got home, she was burning with anger and rage and she did not want anyone to talk to her because she was afraid she'd accidentally let all the anger out on the person who'd talk to her.

Meanwhile, the house had the spirit of Christmas flowing in it. The house had a beautiful tree and a lot of decoration. The girls were feeling amazing due to the awesome time of the year. But little did they know that their cheers would not last long.

When Kayla got home later, she gave the pills to Aroma and went to her room. She wasn't gonna talk to anyone about anything or why it took her so long to get home.

In the evening, there was a knock at the door which was answered by Angelina.

"What?!," she asked, horrified, "How could this happen?."

"It has happened and we have came to the conclusion that this house has something to do with Ms. Alethea Elle," the person at the door replied.

"Who is it?," asked Tina, when she saw Angelina standing there for so long.

"Oh, hello," she said, shocked, when she got to the door and saw the police car and two policemen, one an officer and the other, the Sherriff, outside.

"Hello, ma'am. May we come in? We have an arrest warrant for Ms. Alethea Elle," the Sherriff said.

They were invited inside and they sat down on the couch and told Tina and Angelina everything. Aroma and Benny joined in, as soon as they saw them.

"So, Sherriff Hart, you're saying that she's become a drugs dealer?," Benny asked.

"Yes, but that's not what we're actually trying to say here because she just ran away some days ago and it's too early for her to become someone who sells drugs," Sheriff Andrew Hart replied.

While they were talking, they hadn't noticed that someone had come out of their room and was quietly standing in the corner, listening to them.

The other officer, Elias Morley, a tall guy with blue eyes, a sharp jawline and light brown hair, who was quietly sitting inside with the Sherriff, casually threw a glance at the house and saw Kayla, the girl who had met Alethea some time ago, listening to them.

"You!," he said, making eye contact with her. "What are you doing there? Come here if you want to listen to us."

On that, Kayla started panicking and got scared and ran to her room hurriedly. That triggered officer Morley's suspicion and he ran after her.

The Sherriff and the girls followed him. Officer Morley banged at the door.

"Miss, open up. What's wrong?," he asked her.

"N-Nothing's wrong. Everything's fine," she replied from the inside.

"Why did you run away like that, then? Please, open this door up," he said.

Kayla tried to calm down for a second. When she was calm enough, she opened the door. Outside, she saw officer Morley leaning against the wall, looking at her considerately. She blushed when she looked at him because he was really young. He was someone who had just turned 19 this year and had gotten a job.

"You ok?," he asked, looking into her eyes.

She gulped and nodded. He smiled to her.

"Wanna talk if you know something?," he asked.

"I-I don't know. I mean, I met her today but I.... I.... I'm sorry I didn't tell anyone," she said.

His eyes widened but he had some visible affection in them. He nodded.

"When can you talk about it?," he asked.

"I don't know. I don't think I should be telling anyone," she said.

"You can tell me if you think someone like me can know it. It'll help if you tell me. In fact, it'll help a lot of people if you tell me," he said. She nodded.

So she went downstairs and told everyone everything that had occurred when she was out of the house.

"Ok, so that's how it is," the Sherriff said, stroking his mustache.

She nodded.

"Well, you're under arrest because I think you're very involved in this," he said and cuffed Kayla.

The girls and officer Morley were equally shocked. They couldn't believe it. She wasn't even involved in it.

Officer Morley, who had developed an affection towards Kayla, didn't knew what to say to his senior or to the girls and just quietly followed the Sherriff  outside and drove away, leaving the girls, and Kayla, utterly confused.
