Chapter 6:

The forest.

The Hero and I are going to rebuild the world! But first we have to destroy it...

The creature flew swiftly through the night with the two sleepyheads curled up in its arms asleep. The creature’s wings took their final swoop in the air and it nested in a colossal oak tree branch. It fell asleep with our two protagonists still cozied up and asleep in its fuzzy four arms.

Chun opened his eyes to hear the elegant sounds of Rodelia’s head colliding with tree branches. Thump, crack, snap! And with a final smash you could hear her hit the forest floor.

“Holy crap you okay there?”

He looked down teetering over the edge of the branch.

“No, dumbass I think I just broke my legs… HWHAT THE FUCK!”

Chun realized it as well as everything sunk in.

Fluttering around Rodelia in a big stir of fear was a strange creature. It had pitch black skin and deep white eyes that looked like the moon. Four fuzzy arms with light gray fur, and fur around its two floating legs. Grey hair with two fuzzy antennas sticking out. And massive fluttering fuzzy wings with a swirling pattern. She had a humanoid figure but to no one’s surprise was not human in the slightest.

She was clearly incredibly scared circling Rodelia but too fearful to touch her.

“WHET.”

The girl screamed at Rodelia in concern. But it was only met with pure confusion.

“Chun, can you get down here?!” Rodelia yelled up at him.

“But what if I die?” He yelled back.

“Well what if I die!”

“DIE!!” The flying girl yelled.

And as Chun was about to answer Rodelia back he fell off the tree right on the back of the winged girl which made them both crash to the floor.

All the puzzle pieces fitted together for the both of them.

“Wait a minute. She’s a moth lady! It all makes sense that’s why she saved the village and was attracted to us. Because of the light!” Chun said.

“Then why did she pick us up?” Rodelia questioned looking at the moth lady suspiciously. “What’s your name anyway?”

The moth girl cocked her head to the left and looked at them with curiosity. She flew up and hugged Rodelia’s arm tightly letting out a soft coo.

“Woooooo.”

“Well let’s get out of here then.” Chun whispered to Rodelia as he dusted himself off.

Rodelia pulled the leaves and twigs out of her hair and pulled the moth girl off of her arm. Then they both went in search of an exit to the forest.

Wheeooo, the moth girl wailed at them as she flew behind them tagging along.

“Okay, okay, you can come. Just be nice. Well I don’t think you can even understand me.” Rodelia talked aimlessly to her, before glancing around in worry “Wait a minute. Where did she go?!

“Well I bet she’s just gone back to her home or something. She’s a wild monster girl after all.” Chun commented.

“Never, my maternal instincts set in, that is my child now.” Rodelia snapped back.

“I bet she’ll come back, we can just light a fire.” Chun retorted.

They kept walking as it became evening.

The forest had gotten deeper throughout their wandering. The last bits of sun were spilling in as the forest began to turn cold. Massive deciduous trees covered up the sky creating a thick canopy. The underbrush of mushroom fields, logs and piles of twigs, leaves, and whatever plant life grew thicker and thicker.

“Woah, we haven’t made a fourth wall breaking remark in forever. Oh look there it is WOW.” Rodelia mumbled to herself in an attempt of entertainment.

They cleared away an area of underbrush and set up an amateur camp. Rodelia was tasked with collecting firewood which was a big guilt trip as the plants shamed her an elf for burning them. But pyromaniac has gotta pyromanic no matter what mystical fantasy plants say.

The fire was lit.

In an instant, wooooo, the whirring sound of the moth girl's call echoed off the trees as she flew in at full force.

“Sup.” Rodelia said, pointing finger guns at her. “God damnit NOOOO-”

The moth girl flew into the fire trying to coat herself in the light. Rodelia instantly wrestled with her.

WOoo… The moth girl cried yearning and kicking for the fire as Rodelia pulled her back.

Chun just came back from collecting monster repellant herbs. Yes, the hero does the elf work. We like equality around here.

They sat around the fire eating sandwiches.

“So glad the rats didn’t want to eat these and instead broke out in a riot.” Rodelia said lightly.

“Yea can’t believe it happened again.” Chun said, stuffing the sandwich down his throat.

The night was calm and the howls of other monsters were quiet. After a while they all went to bed in their makeshift tent. Laying down on the single small blanket they both went to sleep.

Hup! The moth girl flopped down in between them and settled down as well with the both of them. It now was truly nighttime and you could hear all the monsters howl and stir. However, our heroes were safe and sound asleep.
