Chapter 3:

The Soft Bed That Sends Me to Peacefulness

The Blue and Yellow Gradients I Adore

Today was a hell of a day.

For a school project, each class was tasked to open a small business and sell some products to other students, teachers, and parents. Each group has 8 members, but that's not nearly enough staff to make all the preparations.

The task was due today and the project is finally over! We ended up finishing pretty well, but to say we were exhausted was an understatement.

Finally, I don't have to bake any more bread!!!

I drop my drained-out body on my fluffy bed, still in my filthy uniform. I don’t want to dirty my freshly cleaned bed covers, but my body wouldn’t budge off my mattress.

It's so soft and cold, I don't want to leave!

I gave in to the fatigue and lay down facing my face. My legs felt almost numb from all the running around I had to do to manage delivering all the products on time.

The view outside was starting to turn from a bright yellow to a dark orange-purple ombre. The clouds swirled around like an egg getting sifted in a pan.

My eyelids started to shut down. They felt warm and tingly. It was getting increasingly difficult to stay awake.

It would be more comfortable to take a shower first before sleeping...

I dismissed my own suggestion as my consciousness wanders off to space.

---

Somehow, just sometime ago, I suddenly regained consciousness amid the darkness.

I still vividly remember the dream I had just fantasized about in my sleep. It wasn't anything crazy and felt as if it lasted fairly short. I went biking in an urban city, yet looked somehow as if untouched by mankind, natural with lots of plants growing freely everywhere.

I guess it felt as if the modern world was able to co-exist more fairly with mother nature. There were no people in sight, but it didn't feel abandoned. Just peaceful and tranquil.

After exploring for a bit, I found a secret entrance that I wasn't sure of the destination. My dream self went in there without any hesitation. It led to a slim coastal road with the most amazing sea view.

The sky was an incredible shade of radiating blue. It was so sunny and warm. There were seagulls flying around in the distance, occasionally making gull sounds.

The sunlight glimmered into the small waves that breaks before they could get far. The breeze kept me cool from the bright sun.

I biked through the looping road until my dream abruptly ends in nothingness.

I wish I could live in such a world...

After becoming more and more aware, my eyes slowly opened.

It's completely dark. The window seemed to reveal a void of nothingness.

Someone had turned the lights off, completely getting rid of any light source. I was loosely covered by a thin blanket albeit a softer, thicker duvet was being crushed under my body. Whoever came in and took care of me - which I suspect might be my mom - must've given up on pulling the duvet off my heavy body.

I opened my eyes further, blinking a couple of times.

I still feel fatigued, but refreshed at the same time...

My mind felt clearer than before.

Curious over what time it was - as the sight outside was completely pitch black - I decided to drag my body off the bed to go downstairs, where I meet my dad slouching on the sofa. He was watching his favorite k-drama series, "I Was Suddenly Transported Into The World of a Game I Finished Playing Last Night!".

"Oh, you're finally awake," my dad greets. I respond with a lazy "mmm".

Wait, hold on-!!! If that show is airing, that must mean it's already 9 PM!!

I quickly turn to the clock that hung above the wooden cabinets. It read 9:34 PM.

"Grrrrr..." My stomach grumbled immediately after my realization.

"Your mom made beef stew. Heat it and dig in. There's still enough rice left," my dad pointed at the dining table without taking his eyes off the screen.

Well... whatever, I'll just stay awake a little later tonight.
