Chapter 17:

A Favor for a Favor.

Hang in There Mister Guard!

Ryoichi told all this story to Hideo, he was still not happy with having to cope with the job, and the thought of the security guard acting as his babysitter didn’t make it any better.

“I don’t care what my parents have told you, I am quitting this job now, so don’t even go asking them for any kind of favor, don’t even talk to them again, everybody around here is just the worst.”

And he started to walk upstairs.

“Ok, as you wish, if you want to quit then do you, there’s nothing anybody can do about it, but I don’t know how good it would be for a restaurant’s reputation that its waiters don’t last not even a day.”

Hideo suddenly stopped. The words that Ryoichi just told him seemed to carry more weight than he expected.

“I’ll tell you something brat, in any job there will always be a common enemy, in most cases it is the one who has the highest position. In your particular case if I take a guess it would be your parents, since they own the whole restaurant, and since you are their son, then that means that for some you are the newest edition of their common enemy, so they will try to crush you, and the fact that they are making you consider quitting means that they are succeeding at it. So I will give you a little recommendation, don’t let them win.”

Hideo clenched his hands and asked:

“How? How can I not let them win?”

He didn’t notice but Ryoichi smiled when he asked him that. Then he walked upstairs too while answering him:

“Fulfilling their expectations, they expected you to be selfish, greedy, bossy, a prick you might say, give them that, let them have it, but just to those who want to crush you. Remember something kid, not everybody there is your enemy, there are people there who don’t want to know who you are, and some who, even if they know who you are, they don’t care about it. Treat those people well, then, and just then, all those who want to crush you will find themselves in the worst of the positions, they will hate you to the point of not wanting to see you there ever again, but they will lack the arguments to get you out of there.”

By the point he finished talking he already reached the entrance to the mall again, Hideo was still static where he stopped.

“Do yourself that favor kid.” He said before closing the door and leaving Hideo alone with his thoughts.
