Chapter 29:

Xadulo's Plan

Heartless

Hours passed, but Pablo and Carnelia aren’t back yet to the camp. “How do we break about this to everyone?” Pablo asked, sitting beside Carnelia. “Xadulo’s probably breaking it to them now. That’s why I don’t want to come back yet…” she replied staring at the moon. “It’s getting cold…” Pablo said in which Carnelia replied, “I, physically, don’t feel anything”, “…you’re just too cold sometimes.”

A few more while, Pablo felt it was deep in the dark. He wanted to ask Carnelia if she wants to go back now, but she fell asleep leaning by a trunk. “Darn. And you said demons don’t sleep,” he carried her and started walking. “…tomorrow, Xadulo will disappear. And, so will I. If this will really be my last moments with you, then I have a few more words…” Carnelia whispered so softly. “Thank you for letting me express myself when you’re with me.”

“…. I thought you were asleep.” Pablo reached their camping spot. He thought everyone, too, would be asleep, but he found them wide awake, with serious faces. Seril was the first one to speak. “You guys finally came back… Pablo.”

They gathered around the fire, but things were too dense and awkward that they were awfully quiet. “Now, everyone! To start off--! Before I die, I have a few things to tell~” Xadulo said cheerfully, as if not noticing the atmosphere. “I won’t be that hard, so please stick with—”, “Why’d you suddenly chose to die?” Pablo interrupted her. Carnelia told her it’s by whim, but he wanted to hear it from Xadulo herself.

“I’m about to explain everything, see? Why not drop the attitude and listen patiently, Pablo?” Xadulo replied sounding a little pissed. “…” She started discussing her plan. “First of all, I kind of also want people to acknowledge me that I was here. I was pretty popular in the Human world, but the rumors could die easily. Now that the memories of necromancers are deleted there, I’ll be nothing but a forgotten legend. Here, I was dead way farther. They could have kept the rumors, right, Deneb?” Deneb nodded, feeling all anxious.

“Maybe make a scroll or something about me?” she said, but no one answered. “…The ingredients of the potions we gathered these pasts months – Jackie knows about them. Most of them expires in less than a day, and some becomes bad under the moon. Use those potions to turn my eyes into a valuable stone,” Xadulo looked through Jack’s soul, who is confused and scared of loss.

“I’m not sure if anyone of you can do it, but I want to continue living. After I die, whether I like the after-life or not, I’ll make sure to come back,” everyone raised their heads, seeking if maybe there is a way. “Well, not that I know~!” and everyone was disappointed again. Xadulo also went quiet for a while with an unwavering smile. “Well, it was fun to be with you guys. Why don’t we all sleep now? You all look tired,” she stood and started heading to her tent.

“Oh! I forgot!” she turned her head back to them. “For Pablo’s question…— it was all simply curiosity!”

And so, a week of silence and wars went by.
