Chapter 14:

Luke Young

Bitter-Sweet

So, they left the police station in a state of worry and discomfort. It had become cold and dark now due to the prevailing winter. They entered the house in silence.

"Go and see him, Tina," Benny said.

"What? Now?!," she asked, eyes wide.

"Yes, now!," Aroma said.

"But, it's so late right now. I can't go and I don't even know where he lives!," she said in hesitation.

"Then, call him," Angelina said.

"Ok," she said and called him.

"Hey, Ryan," she said.

"Hey, what's up?," he said.

"A lot. I need to talk to you," she said.

"What's wrong?," he asked.

"I need a lawyer," she answered.

"What?! What crime did you commit?," he asked, his worry understandable through the phone.

"It's not about me. It's about a friend," she said.

"Which one?," he asked.

"Kayla," she said.

"Oh," he said, in a whisper.

"You'll help me, right?," she asked.

"Yeah, I will," he said.

She gulped.

"What is it? You sound disappointed," she said to him.

"Nah, I thought it was something about you," he said.

"What do you mean?," she asked.

"I'll tell you later. I'm coming over. Is that okay with your friends?," he asked.

Tina looked at her friends in question. They nodded at her.

"Yes," she told him.

"So, you want this lawyer that I'll get you, to prove your friend's innocence?," Ryan asked, when he had arrived at their house.

"Yeah, you dumb mutt, don't you get that?," Angelina said, letting her anger out at him.

"Listen, you short kid, I'm not what you say I am and if you're that egoistic and smart, why don't get a lawyer yourself? Oh, but you're not fifteen, are you?," he said, mocking her.

"Ryan, stop," Tina said.

He sighed.

"Fine," he said. "Why was she thrown into jail? I mean, what did they suspect her of?," he asked.

"Well, you know Alethea got involved into drugs and all. Kayla met her today by accident and then the police came home with an arrest warrant for Alethea with them and then Kayla started panicking and the Sheriff suspected her to be a part of all of it, too. That is why she's in jail, right now," Aroma said.

"Oh, that's a bad case. I'll call someone for you," he said and went outside to talk to someone.

He had already been looking for someone's number on his phone while he heard Aroma talking.

"Well, he's pulling over any minute now," said Ryan, as he came back and sat down.

"And who is this 'He' that you called?," asked Benny.

"I called Luke Young. He'll help you girls perfectly well. He's a defense attorney who's very excellent in his work," he said.

The bell ringed as soon as he said that.

"That'd be him," he said.

So, Angelina went to open the door. They were amazed to see a man of a tall height, a cigarette in his mouth, clad in a sharp black suit and tie, a heavy black leather trench coat, a black leather briefcase in his right hand, wearing black leather dress shoes, which were not that visible. He took his cigarette out of his mouth, licked his lips and looked at them. That is when they saw how he looked: he had a strong jawline, handsome facial symmetry, wide black eyes, high cheekbones and relatively thin lips, which were parched due to him being a heavy smoker. He had clearly dyed his hair blonde because his old black roots were visible on his head. His hair needed a little combing because they had become rough at the ends, which were coming down to his shoulders.

They were shocked to see a lawyer so disgraceful. Tina shot a confused look at Ryan. He smiled and mouthed the words: Give it a chance. She rolled her eyes. The other three were confused, too. The attorney noticed it and smirked.

"Hello, I'm Luke Young. Ryan called me here, saying that someone called miss Tina Thorne is my client. It's you, right?," he said, pointing at Tina.

"Yes, it's me. Please sit down," she said. He nodded and sat down.

"Would you like a drink?," she asked.

"White wine, if you have some," he said.

"Mr. Young, we don't drink," she said.

"Black tea, then," he said, with a swish of his index finger.

She nodded.

Mr. Young threw a quick glance around the room and saw the other three girls already being very disapproving of him. He raised his eyebrows at Ryan in question. He mouthed the words: They don't like me, too. He laughed lightly.
