Chapter 15:

Brat

Bitter-Sweet

When Tina had brought back Mr. Young's black tea, they started talking.

"So, miss Thorne, you say that miss Justin is not guilty of being involved with a drugs dealer?," he asked her.

"Yes, that's true," she said.

"So, the Sheriff thinks that she's guilty and she's in jail for that. Well, you guys aren't rich, I know that much but you really didn't need a lawyer for this," he said.

"What?!," the four girls in the room said in unison.

"Yes, that's true. You literally didn't need a lawyer for this," Mr. Young said chuckling, "But, I know why the Sheriff told you to get one. As I said earlier, you guys aren't rich and you sure as hell do not have enough money to get miss Justin out of jail. That is why, he recommended you to get a lawyer. That's where I come in."

"I don't get it. Why would he do that to us?," Benedict said.

"Well, miss, he did that because you don't want your friend to be rotting in jail in this Christmas time, do you? I'm sure you don't. That's why. And, usually when people don't have enough money for bail, they need to get a lawyer who can fight for them. That's where Ryan comes in. His family knows me for a long time and I've defended his dad on a lot of cases and this time I'm gonna do this one for free 'cause Mr. Verlice here is like family to me," Mr. Young answered.

"Okay, so, why aren't you telling us what to do?," Aroma asked.

"It's because what is to be done, you guys can't do it," he said.

"What do you mean, mister?," Angelina said, raising an eye at him and acting all cocky with him.

"Oh, shorty wants to talk now," Ryan interrupted, smirking.

Mr. Young laughed.

"See, miss....?," Mr. Young asked.

"Ashby," she answered.

"Yes, miss Ashby, you need witnesses. Do you have them?," he asked, tilting his head to a side.

"Witnesses? What are they needed for?," she asked.

"Ma'am, we need to have witnesses to prove miss Justin's innocence," he answered.

Mr. Young took out a black colored diary  and a silver pen from his coat's pocket.

"So, where did she find miss Elle, miss Thorne?," he asked.

"Oh, she went to the pharmacy to get some medicine for Aroma," Tina answered.

"Okay, when did she come back?," he asked.

"She was supposed to come home early, but she took quite some time to get home. She came home at, I guess, five thirty in the evening," she said.

"Five thirty in the evening? Then she would've met miss Elle some forty minutes ago because your district's pharmacy is not that far away from the residency area," he said, "What did she do when she got home?."

"She didn't say anything. She was in her room all the time," she said.

"She definitely panicked. I can say that much," he said, taking notes.

"When the police came home, she panicked even more," Tina said.

"Yes, miss Thorne, nice thinking," he said.

Then, Mr. Young got up.

"It's decided. Get me witnesses," he said.

"Get you witnesses? Aren't you supposed to get us witnesses, asshole?," Angelina said, yelling at him.

"Miss Ashby, I have just come to the conclusion that.you.are.a.brat, a really big one to top it off. And yes, you need to talk to the staff of the pharmacy and I'll be assisting you. It's your case after all," Mr. Young said, cocking an eyebrow at Angelina.

She rolled her eyes.

"Well, miss Thorne, thank you for the black tea. It was amazing. And you guys have to meet me at the pharmacy tomorrow at three in the afternoon and one of you has to go visit miss Justin's parents. They have to know what's going on with their child. Not that it matters though. Well, anyways, thank you and good night," Mr. Young said and left.

When he had left, Angelina shot her eyes towards Ryan.

"Why aren't you leaving?," she said.

"What do you mean?," he asked, raising an eyebrow at her.

"Just tell your boyfriend to leave, Tina. His work here is finished," she said.

Ryan rolled his eyes.

"Hey, don't say that. He is the one that got us a lawyer. He's a part of this now," Tina said, eyes starting to burn up with anger now.

"Oh, now is he?," said Angelina.

"What's wrong with you, Angelina. Calm down," Benny interrupted.

"Oh, look who's talking! The crybaby of the house finally talks and that too now, when it's me who's mad?," Angelina said, mocking her.

"Stop! What's wrong with you?," Aroma said.

"What's wrong with me?! What's wrong with him?! How can he get us a shitty lawyer like him?!," Angelina said.

"Listen, shorty, he is the best lawyer for cases like these and if you aren't grateful about it, I'll just tell Luke to stop working with you. Plus, I know why you're mad. It's because he told you your reality. And that is that you're a brat!," Ryan said.

"Ryan!," Tina interrupted. He looked at her. "Uh, you should leave," she said.

He sighed. He knew why she was saying this to him. She wasn't embarrassed or anything but she just didn't wanted to show her friend's bad side to him.

"Fine," he said, "Call me later."

He then gave her a peck on the cheek and left. Tina blushed hard and her eyes followed him as the boy wearing blue jeans and a black shirt under a black jacket left their house.
