Chapter 3:

We Meet A Singer!

The Price For Fame

Sakura's life had changed drastically since her video went viral. She was now recognized everywhere she went, and her schedule was filled with interviews, performances, and appearances. She was grateful for the opportunities, but the constant attention was starting to take its toll.

She couldn't go anywhere without being followed by paparazzi and fans, and she was constantly bombarded with messages and requests from strangers. It was exhausting, both mentally and physically. She missed the simplicity of her old life when she could sing for the sheer joy of it without any pressure or expectations.

One day, as Sakura was leaving a busy concert venue, she bumped into a fellow J-Pop singer named Ryota. Ryota was a fan of Sakura's, but she was also a talented singer in her own right. They had both competed in the same talent competition, and Sakura had seen her perform several times.

Ryota and Sakura initiated a conversation, and Sakura was struck by how kind and genuine she seemed. Ryota had a calming presence that Sakura found soothing. They exchanged contact information and promised to keep in touch.

Over the next few weeks, Ryota and Sakura spoke on the phone and texted regularly. Sakura looked forward to their conversations, which were a welcome respite from the chaos of her daily life. Ryota never asked for anything from her and seemed to want anything other than to be her friend.

As Sakura sat in her dressing room, preparing for her next performance, she thought about Ryota and how grateful she was to have made a true friend amid all the superficiality surrounding her. She knew that Ryota understood the pressure she was under and could relate to her struggles as a fellow J-Pop singer.

"Wait, you're the singer from the band RugByGirls! You're Ryota Fujiimori! The song that made me famous was a song you made!?" Sakura's eyes gleamed as she gazed at Ryota, not believing that the simple girl standing before her was the key that unlocked Sakura's stardom.

"Yep, that's me. To think that you sang much finer than me, girl, you're good!" Ryota honoured; they both chuckled and crossed their arms. They strolled to a nearby cafe until the lurid rumbling of rushing footsteps could be heard.

A click of several cameras.

Sakura, the centre of all the shots, beaming nervously.

Ryota narrowed her eyes; it used to be me that was the attention, she thought.

Yup, the paparazzi.

Ryota saw the tremendous hysteria in Sakura's eyes, so she gripped her arm and darted through the avenues so swiftly but so smoothly, it was as if they were airborne, soaring through the sky with fictitious plumose wings.

They rushed into another cafe, the small bell dolling as they bore for the door and strode into the ambient diner.

A tranquil melody was playing from a pink radio on the countertop; people were sipping coffee and murmuring to each other; Sakura stowed her head down as she sensed the eyes of everybody eyeing her with awe and admiration.

Though, Ryota stood proud.

Sakura had detected that anytime the paparazzi were near or people were observing, Ryota would swoop in with an immense smile, posing on the camera clicks, but the people were in for Sakura; everyone overlooked Ryota since Sakura had become prominent.

Ryota's gleaming and welcoming cerulean eyes, from Sakura's perspective, now became a cantaloupe fiery flame of envy.
