Chapter 31:

Mystery Rise: The first Dot

Heartless

More days passed. Carnelia got a hold of the body and is starting to get used to it. She had just woken up on the 4th morning and immediately sat up. Pablo entered with fruits and drinking water. “Feel better yet?” he asked as he hand the water. “The heat was cooling down, at least. My head still hurts, but I’ll be okay.”

“I have no idea how I ended here in Xadulo’s body. But a week had passed when I returned. Right?” Pablo nodded in response. “Maybe she’s done with the afterlife so she sent me back. Maybe she still has her powers? I’ve got no idea... She is aware that I also disappeared, and she said “I” will help her be back.”

“…” After a while of thinking, Carnelia decided. “…Call everyone over.”

Though she said, but only Deneb and Seril came. According to them, neither Kyshanne nor Jack has the energy to face Carnelia. “I needed everyone to hear, but since the two aren’t here, just tell them what you heard from me,” she said. She raised her hand, palm facing the ceiling. “I have lost my powers. As of now, I am a normal human. Not even a necromancer”, “…?!”, “What do you think of a demon who took over her mistress’s body? In the first place, what is a demon?”

“Now, I have no idea how to bring her back. I’ve got a few methods, but all requires magic that’s out of this world. Chants may work, but we can’t hold long incantations either.” She discussed while checking their available potions. “For now, all I can is connect some dots. Maybe if we had more clues…” after a while, she asked the boys to give her time to think.

Carnelia returned to her cave, lied on her bed, and thought of a plan. ‘She wants to come back’ ‘How?’ ‘The incantations…’ ‘Have to retrieve my powers’ ‘Maybe potions?’ ‘Memories of greater impact—’ ‘I have to find something…—’ “…Memories?”

‘Oh, that’s right. If summoning or calling someone, it’s great to use something that have a great impact to the other as connector to have a better connection. Dunno the rules, but maybe it also connects to the dead… no, wait. Back in the days when she still can’t control her power, she can summon me so she uses that chant. But she uses more of them than the usual amount— maybe because I was in hell? Then what about her coordinates? I don’t know if it’s hell or heaven, or maybe another world with another color…’ “…She does leave lots of things behind.”

It was late in the night when she finished her brainstorming and stood up. She decided to take a piece of paper to take note of the important things she has to remember. She has so much in mind that she consumed many papers. She wrote and wrote and wrote without noticing the sun rose. Someone knocked. Carnelia permitted, while she rests her head on the papers due to exhaustion.

The door creaks. “…What the hell happened?” she heard Deneb spoke. There were papers everywhere. Some were lying on the bed, some were on the table Carnelia was using, and some fell from the same table. Carnelia wasn’t sure if she was awake. “…I… hate these loads… of hair…” she whispered, which Deneb couldn’t understand properly.

“I, ah… brought coffee and… bread,” Deneb said awkwardly, while looking for a spot to place them. She suddenly raised her head and made Deneb jump. “Hand me the coffee!”

She gulped it down quickly. “HOT!”, “Hey! Why’d you…!?” Deneb tried to grab to cup from her. “Bring Everyone over,” she ordered with her mind set in stone. “I’ve got an idea.”
