Chapter 32:

Kyshanne Gains

Heartless

“It’s STUPID!” Kyshanne shouted after she heard Carnelia’s motives. They were discussing, forming a circle as they exchange thoughts. “Why would we have to?! How will she come back?! HOW!!” for the past days, Kyshanne’s temper thinned. “Now that her body is stolen by YOU, how will she even—” she stepped front as if attacking, “—come back…!” but Seril grabbed her arms to stop her.

“Just drop it, you. At least hear her out. Maybe she can…” Seril restrained her, replying with a weak voice. “Let me go”, “No,” Kyshanne turned to him, glared with firing eyes. “Let me go, asshole!” Kyshanne tried pulling her arms off Seril’s. Seril let go one of his hands and used it to slap Kyshanne. “You’re the asshole here! Don’t you seek hope?”, “I’ve given up on that!”, “Don’t you want to see her again?!”, “No—”, “Don’t you want to apologize to her or thank her, at least?!” she couldn’t reply.

“You two. Please don’t fight. You’ve never done that before,” Pablo said. Seril went back to his place and pulled Kyshanne to hers, strongly gripping on her wrist. Kyshanne silenced and looked down at her feet. “Still, how’re we going to bring her back if she doesn’t have a vessel?” Deneb asked. “She does,” Carnelia replied. “I’ll dragged her back into this body. No matter what,” slightly, those words made Pablo sad.

“I have a few specific chants that, when used together, might be able to bring her back,” she started showing how to use those chants and how they can work. “I can’t stand this…” Kyshanne whispered and left. Seril heard her and followed.

She sat on a rock far enough to not hear what they were saying. “You won’t join?” Seril asked her, then noticed how red her cheek was from his slap, as well as how red her wrist was from his grip. “Hey, I’m sorry… for slapping ya earli—”, “I don’t want to hear it,” she suddenly spoke. “I know you’re hurt. You’re Xadulo’s first female extern friend, right?”, “…she was my first ever friend. She was the first to speak to me. As if she wasn’t affected by the curse lingering in me…” She started crying that made Seril feel bad. “I'm cursed to be despised”, “...!”

“Everyone hated me, feared me, made fun of me… it was curse put upon me because of my parents’ foolishness. My mother who was fooled and impregnated by a human, and my father who tried to form a relationship with a monster’s kind,” Seril couldn’t say a world. “They were stupid, stupid, stupid! Foolish creatures! Even their child is a fool who was fooled by everyone! Everything was stupid!” she started yelling.

“I tried living in the human world after my mother throwed me there. I made a fool of everyone, faking my every move so that no one would know what I am. But then, Xadulo caught me and tried to kill me. I thought ‘this is it, so I could maybe tell her who I am’. Before I knew it, she became my first friend who wasn’t affected by my curse. Then after that, the people I have been meeting were not affected by the curse either”, “…how come?” Seril asked. “What I noticed is that all of them became Xadulo’s friend first.”

“…” he thought back. “I really loved Xadulo. She took care of me, played with me, cherished me… when she wanted me to be her friend, I whole world turned,” ‘the same with me’ Seril thought. “By time I forgot what I was when I was born. Now, my first ever friend who gave me salvation is gone…”

“Hey—” Seril called to try to cheer her up, but couldn’t think of a single method. “Y’know how I’m, like, one of the eldest among us?” he asked with a friendly smile. “Deneb is the eldest, but before him, it was me. I was the one always cooking meals, and reminding when laundry day is… aren’t I like the eldest sibling?” He said with pride.

“…No, I’d say you’re like a mother”, “Hell, no!” Kyshanne laughed for a bit. “…fine. View me as a mother, a brother, or a friend - I don’t care. But know that I’m here for you. I’ve been taking care of everyone that it felt like looking after siblings”, “Then, Jackie is the youngest? Since he’s your favorite”, “IT. DEPENDS. ON. AGE. (well, just a you say, he is the youngest among us). Not who’s my favorite! And if you can joke like that, then you’re more than fine!” Kyshanne laughed slightly louder.

“Then, please by me twin brother or something”, “Like I said, it depends on age—”, “Though you said you didn’t care,” they looked at each other’s eyes for a while; Kyshanne’s eyes with mockery, and Seril’s with annoyance. Seril then sighed and said, “Fine. Let’s go back to the others, then,” Kyshanne smiled and stood. “Sure thing, bro!”, “Don’t suddenly call me that, it’s creepy!”

‘What another stupid thing I gained.’
