Chapter 1:

A Glitch in the System

Irony High: How I Ended Up at an All-Girls School

Sora Tanaka was an exceptional student in the field of robotics. The Japanese government introduced a new system to determine which high school would be the best fit for students just graduating from middle school.

Sora was taken to an all white room in the basement of his middle school. There he was given a test, administered to him by the government's new AI.

Sora began the test. It was brutal. It tested his knowledge on a vast array of topics, as the test continued it seem to focus on robotics and artificial intelligence.

After what seemed like hours of testing, he was finally done. Sora heard a voice say, "Congratulations Sora, you have been accepted into the most prestigious school in the country, perhaps the world."

There was a bright flash, and Sora passed out.

When he awoke, he found himself in a spotless white room. There were no windows, and only one door, which was locked from the outside. He looked around and saw that he was sitting in a chair.

A cheery, somewhat clipped voice said "Welcome to the Artemis Institute!, the top all girls' school in the world!"

Sora could barely believe what he was hearing. This couldn't possibly be real! How was he in an all girls' school?

How the hell did he even get here? Where was here? He had so many questions.

"Um... Excuse me, what do you mean all girls' school?" he asked.

"The Artemis Institute, an exclusive academy. We take the top female student from all across Japan. Our students excel in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology." the voice said.

"Um... That's fine, but why am I here?"

"You were selected based on your scores on our entrance exam. You scored higher than any other applicant. Congratulations!"

"I still don't understand. You said this was an all girls' school, right?"

"Yes, we are an all girls' school. This is where the best and brightest female minds gather to learn and grow. We strive to give these young ladies the best education possible, in order to prepare them for the challenges ahead," the voice replied.

"You don't see a problem with me being enrolled here?"

"No, why would I? You scored in the 99th percentile in robotics and AI theory in the country. You are one of Japan's top female minds!"

Sora wasn't sure how to respond. He felt uncomfortable.

"Well then, um... There's only one problem with that... I'm a boy!"

"No, my files show you are a girl. You must be mistaken."

"I assure you, I am a boy! The school must have made some kind of mistake!"

"My records indicate..."

"Your records are WRONG!"

"Please stand by... stand by... stand by..."

Sora stood up and tried to open the door, but it wouldn't budge.

"It seems you will need to wait while we verify your identity."

"What in the world? Why can't I leave? What's going on here?"

"Please hold on... please hold on... please hold on..."

"What's wrong?! How long do I have to wait?!" Sora yelled.

"We apologize for the delay. Please stand by..."

"Oh god, what is taking so long?"

"Unable to process, a staff member will be with you shortly."

Oh god, was he talking to a computer this entire time? Hopefully, someone will get this mess straitened out soon.

Sora was getting frustrated when suddenly the door opened.

"Hello. Welcome to the Artemis Institute, my name is Yui Hiroko... oh crap... you really are a boy." she said.

"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE COMING IN AND-"

"I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were a boy until now. All of our records showed you were a girl. The damn AI has been on the fritz lately... I'm gonna strangle Ayumi when I find that little brat!" she exclaimed.

"Yui, what the hell is going on here? What happened to my file?"

"Your file seems to show you are a girl. The AI has been having trouble since last week. Apparently, it's not entirely stable yet..."

"I'm telling you, I'm a boy. My name is Sora Tanaka, and I'm a straight-A student! I was just accepted into the Artemis Institute for Girls... an ALL GIRLS SCHOOL."

"Yes, that seems to be the case..."

"Can I please leave now?!"

"I'm afraid that won't be possible. We are extremely remote. You remember the bright flash of light? That was our experimental teleportation system..."

"Teleportation? I thought those were fictional?"

"Well, they're not exactly fiction anymore. We've got a few prototypes working, but it's still a work in progress,"

"Why are you keeping me here?"

"You are one of the brightest minds in robotics in the entire country. And the teleporter broke... there's no way to send you home..."

"So, what am I going to do?"

"Well... you were accepted. I'm sure the administration could make an exception..."

"I have to stay here?!" he yelled.

"Relax, it'll be fine. The Artemis Institute is the best school in the world! You'll get a great education and meet lots of new people."

"But I'm a boy... In an all girls' school..."

"We'll figure something out, I'm sure..."
