Chapter 2:

Mixups and Introductions

Irony High: How I Ended Up at an All-Girls School

Sora was taken to the Dean of Admissions, and Yui explained the situation.

"I'm so sorry for the mixup, Sora. But the AI is having some serious issues right now. If they can't fix it soon, then I'm afraid you'll have to remain here at the school for the foreseeable future."

"Ok, but where am I going to live? Obviously, you have nothing set up for male students!"

"It isn't ideal, but we can give you your own room... it would still be in the main dormitory. But I can allow a lock for your door."

"Fine, whatever. I guess I'll deal with it."

"Thank you, Sora. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you adjust to your new life here at the school."

"Sorry Sora, but this is going to be a shock for everyone at the school. There has never been a male student at the Artemis Institute before. I'm sure once they get used to the idea, things will settle down."

"Yeah... I hope so..."

"So, I've scheduled an assembly. I will explain everything to the student body. You can introduce yourself to everyone." Yui said.

Sora nodded and left the office. As he walked through the halls, he noticed that almost every single person who came within ten feet turned and stared at him.

The auditorium was huge, easily big enough to seat 500+ students comfortably. Yui spoke to the crowd first.

"As you may already know, there is a new student joining us today. His name is Sora Tanaka, and he is an incredibly talented student in the fields of robotics and AI."

The student body gasped. "But he's a boy!" someone shouted out. The room broke out into chaos.

"Calm down, everyone! Everyone calm down!" Yui said. "He's just another student. Nothing else needs to change. Now let's all listen carefully to what Professor Hiroko has to say about Mr. Tanaka."

She stepped back up onto the stage and began explaining the situation. "Mr. Tanaka was accepted into our program after scoring the highest among all applicants in both robotics and artificial intelligence. Unfortunately, because of a technical glitch, his gender was mistakenly identified as female."

This caused much more confusion. Some students cheered, while others booed. Several girls stormed out of the building. Others cried. One girl threw up.

"Now I want to emphasize that nothing is changing. He is a truly gifted student. There will be some adjustment period.."

"What about his living arrangements?" someone called out.

"That too should be no issue," Yui answered calmly. "His residence hall will be in the same wing as yours. He is welcome to use any communal spaces or facilities that you do."

"Are you sure about this?" another girl asked nervously.

"Of course. It's unfortunate, but we cannot allow anyone to feel unwelcome here at the institute." Yui responded firmly.

After the initial uproar settled, Yui addressed the class again. "With that being said, I'd like to formally welcome our newest classmate, Sora Tanaka!"

There was mostly silence throughout the auditorium except for a few scattered claps.

This was going to be harder than I thought... Sora thought as he left the auditorium.
