Chapter 21:

Balancing Ethics and Safety: A Trio's Dilemma

Fangs and Facades

Saori, Yuna, and Mika were on their first night of patrol, walking the school grounds with flashlights in hand. Saori had brought along a bag of equipment that clanked with every step.

"Okay, Mika, I need you to install these cameras in the trees," Saori said, handing Mika a small device. "They'll give us a view of the entire area."

Mika frowned, looking at the device in her hand. "Wait, we're spying on the school?" she asked, her voice rising with concern.

Saori sighed. "We're not spying," she said. "We're just being cautious. We need to be able to monitor the school in case anything suspicious happens."

Mika crossed her arms over her chest. "But this is wrong, Saori. What if the school administration finds out?" she protested.

Yuna stepped in to support Saori. "Mika, we need to do everything we can to keep everyone safe. And if it means taking a little risk, then so be it," she said.

Mika was not convinced. "Oh, so you're just going to side with her because of your relationship?" she snapped at Yuna.

Yuna's face flushed with anger. "No, Mika. I'm siding with Saori because I believe in what she's doing," she said firmly.

Saori placed a reassuring hand on Mika's shoulder. "I understand your concerns, Mika. But sometimes, we have to do things we don't like in order to protect the people we care about," she said.

Mika sighed, looking down at the device in her hand. "Fine," she muttered. "Let's just get this over with."

As they continued their patrol, Saori showed the twins some of the experimental supernatural sensors she had developed. They were small, handheld devices that beeped and lit up when they came into contact with a supernatural entity.

"These are amazing," Yuna said, looking at the device in awe.

Saori smiled. "I'm glad you like them," she said. "But they're still in the testing phase. We need to be careful not to rely too heavily on them."

Mika snorted. "We can't rely on them at all if we can't use them," she muttered under her breath.

Saori shot Mika a look of disapproval, but didn't say anything. She knew Mika was still struggling with the idea of spying on the school.

As they continued their patrol, the trio set up the security cameras and sensors around the school grounds. Saori made sure to keep them hidden, so as not to raise any suspicions.

Finally, as they finished up their work, Saori pulled Yuna to the side. "Yuna, can I talk to you for a minute?" she asked.

Yuna nodded, following Saori to a secluded area. "What's up?" she asked.

Saori took a deep breath. "I just wanted to say... I'm glad you're here with me," she said softly.

Yuna smiled. "Of course, Saori. I'll always be here for you," she said.

Saori's heart fluttered at Yuna's words. She leaned in, brushing her lips against Yuna's in a tender kiss. As they pulled away, Mika emerged from the shadows, grinning from ear to ear.

"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" Mika teased. "Looks like someone's getting lucky tonight."

Yuna blushed, while Saori rolled her eyes. "Can it, Mika," she said, though her words lacked any real heat.

Mika grinned. "Just saying, I'm happy for you two," she said, giving Yuna an affectionate hug.

Yuna looked back at Saori, who returned her gaze with a warm smile.

The three girls spent the rest of the night patrolling the school grounds together, watching for anything out of the ordinary.
