Chapter 6:

Strech

The City Far from Bliss

“Hey, follow me and I’ll show you the vehicle that needs fixing.” a man said standing up and beginning to walk away from the large table that five men were sitting at. Loreleye and Blitzkrieg followed him.

“We are all on dispatch crews, we could really use these vehicles quickly up and running. We haven’t had to use it much, but it's time to get some refurbishments, or at least an estimate on them. Thanks for coming out here and doing this, you two are some true heroes.”

“It’s no problem really.” Blitzkrieg responded, eager to get his hands on the vehicle.

“Well if you two need me, I’ll be over there.” He pointed over in the opposite direction that Blitzkrieg and Loreleye had entered from. The man's voice dropped to a whisper.

“It’s our secret snack closet. I think one of the Hero Agents upstairs has been stealing from it.

“Ok. Will do.” Loreleye responded

“I’m going to go in there, and knock him out.” Loreleye said telepathically to Blitzkrieg. Blitzkrieg responded by just nodding his head. He looked at the toolbox, picked up a red wrench and handed it to Loreleye. They had a mutual understanding on what to do. Out of nowhere, alarm bells rang. The man from before turned and began to sprint, yelling orders at the men at the table, but it was unheard by Blitzkrieg and Loreleye.

Loreleye continued on her mission to the snack closet. She was fiddling with the wrench in her hand, as she got closer to the door, she saw that the door was cracked open. She eased the door open and heard a faint noise of a candy wrapper crinkling. The alarm had quieted and now the garage door was rearing open. She peeped into the door and saw a large man with greasy, short, black hair. He was shoving a chocolate bar in his face, huffing as he did so. He turned around and stared at Loreleye like a deer in headlights. Words were attempted to be spoken, but the chocolate bar turned them to mush. Loreleye jerked her hand with the wrench backwards and threw it forward. It hit the man on his dome, his eyes rolled back into his head as the chocolate bar fell to the floor.

Loreleye had a multitude of powers; she could morph into any human, she could manipulate two senses at a time and make a person have vivid illusions, she could become partially see-through, she had telepathy, and she could create a single weak copy of herself that she could control remotely. She morphed herself into the man and then set an illusion on his body that it would look like a cardboard box, and feel like one too. She had a disguise, and began to walk to the file room.

Blitzkrieg was looking at a wall, searching for a wall outlet. He was frantic because he didn’t want to be spotted. He spotted one and turned into electricity, combining himself into the electrical system. He knew that the electrical system was running on generators. Blitzkrieg began his search for the file room.

Loreleye was passing by frantically moving agents and dispatchers. Something bad must have happened or was happening. However, this did not matter to her, so she continued. She knew the path and was on a beeline towards the file room. She could now see it, but there was an old man wearing a security uniform sitting at a desk next to it. She walked towards him.

“Oh, Hey James, what files do you need today?” the man asked

“I need a lot, could I just go in and retrieve them myself? I don’t want you hurting yourself.” Loreleye said motioning along with it

“That's awfully caring of you today. Thank you.” he pressed a button and the door buzzed, signaling it was ready to be opened. She walked to the heavy door and pulled it open.

“If you aren’t out in five minutes, I’ll come and help you. Can’t have more lost people now can we?” the old man chuckled.

“I won’t get lost.” Loreleye said turning back to him, seeing his computer screen had solitaire on it. She made her way down a stairwell.

Blitzkrieg was rushing up and down the electrical lines, popping out for a second, just enough to look for files. After around ten stops, the most eventful popping out to see a man dry blowing his hair and promptly scaring the poor guy, Blitzkrieg had landed himself in the file room. He could sense he wasn’t alone. Somebody else was in the file room, he hoped it was Loreleye, but he couldn’t be sure. He wouldn’t dare call out to the person. The footsteps surely didn’t sound like Loreleye.

He was following the person while simultaneously looking for the S files, it would probably be an entire row. The catch was, there were numbers and symbols too. He had seen the right curly bracket all the way to the exponent sign. He was sure of two things, this room was incredibly large and the person organizing this must hate life. He was following the footsteps and had caught glimpses of a shadow, but then the person would disappear. It was strange, ‘maybe a ghost’ Blitzkrieg thought to himself. Buzzing rang out to him, now there were three people, not just two.

“Hey, James!” rang out to Lorleye. She looked over to where the voice was coming from, it was a man, about equal to her height, unkempt black hair that was pushed off of his forehead, making messy wave-shaped bundles of hair at the top of his forehead. He was wearing an unorthodox uniform for a Hero Facility worker, she figured he must be a hero, that is the security detail of this room.

“Umm, Hey!” She muttered out to him.

“Something got you down?”

“Nope, just really busy.”

“Ooo, what are you busy with?” He said leaning in.

“I’m grabbing files about the cases of those motel murders? It would be under Somnis right?”

He looked off into the distance for a few seconds. “Yeah I think so,” “Somnis, Somnis, Somnis.” he quietly muttered to himself.

“Mind if I join your walk? I’m supposed to be escorting people today.” He said, perking up.

“Uhh Yeah. It’s your job.” Loreleye muttered, knowing that knowing her mission would be even more difficult.

“Great!” They started walking.

Blitzkrieg was watching, he saw this and decided to follow, now was his time to strike, the iron was hot. He started moving faster. He felt swift. A loud bang followed his thoughts, his shin has clipped a metal rack. Blitzkrieg bit his lip and tears welled in his eyes, he was exposed, and it was only a matter of time before he was going to be found.

The man swiftly turned around, and grabbed Loreleye by the shoulder.

“Someone’s in here with us. Don’t worry. I, Stretch, will handle this.”
