Chapter 2:

Death, Life, and Stars Part 2

The Stars in a New World

Now having finished the tents my mother and I suggest we eat before we go stargazing. To which I agreed to. During dinner. I got curious and so I ended up asking my mom how did my dad die. Because I was so young I didn't remember much about my father.

My mom stared at me for a second before answering. "Well, he died doing what he loved as I said earlier. He was at the observatory and he got too excited and fall off the telescope. He was cleaning the lense when he fell. They said that he was mesmerized by the once in a lifetime event of this beautiful shooting star event." My mom began to cry as she told me.

"Sounds like him and I would've gotten along." I said trying to lighten the mood. My mom smiles knowing what I'm trying to do. "Shall we go get set up?" I asked my mom. "Yes let's go ahead."

We set off to a large cliff which was free of trees. It opened the sky to us as the stars lit up the ground faintly. I begin to set up my telescope putting each piece together. I here my mom say "I forgot the lense for my telescope. I'll go get them real quick."

"Don't get lost!" I called out to her jokingly. She left and I stayed finishing up my setup. I look up after I'm done. I couldn't believe my eyes. The sky filled a bunch of shooting stars constantly rushing across the night sky. In amazement I start taking steps forwards unaware of my surroundings. My mom comes back and looks up as she too has her eyes fixated on the shooting stars.

A couple of moments go by. I suddenly hear a panicked yell from my mom. "Haku, stop!" Before I realized I felt weightless. I had stepped over the ledge. I fell down still looking up as the trees began to block my vision of the sky. I figured out I was falling. But, before I could panick, I slammed into the ground below.

Blood rushing out of my body. Everything felt broken. I'm panicking from the weird feeling. 'Am I dying?' I think to myself? I look up and instantly my panic is gone as I can see the sky through the trees. 'Please don't let me die like this.' I pleaded. 'I want to show everyone how wonderful the universe is. I want to show them how amazing this is. Please. Please'

My thought echo, fading away. The life in my eyes fade. And my vision gone. I'm surrounded by a dark void. I see nothing. I hear nothing. Until a faint voice calls out. "I want you to show them. Show them the world you see. Don't let me down."

             I open my eyes.
