Lizard girl's story

"Umm? Excuse me? " Ryuta went to talk to THAT weird girl. "Oh! That human!!" She continued "Why are you back? You want your food back? But you can't. I ate all of that alrea- " she fell down while talking. She still couldn't walk properly. "Are you okay? I don't want the food back but.." ryuta said. "Hah, knew it. It feels better when I walk on four feet" she said without listening to him.

Four feet? But you have two..? And the other two are your hands? Does she really think that..

"Human? You aren't scared anymore? You ran away before?" Said that girl. "Ah.. I.. that's because you grabbed my leg all of a sudden.. so I got scared.. I.." ryuta replied. "You know what you are the first human who gave me food." She said and smiled still looking at the ground.

Huh? What does she mean? Like the first person who shared food?? 

"So why did you come back?" She asked as she got up. "I saw you from over there" he pointed the way he came from "you were trying to walk on two feet? I guess I was curious.. about you.. I- I mean.. not like that..  the way you were walking on four limb!! just that!" Ryuta said. The girl was looking at him in his eyes. "What's wrong?" He asked.

Ahhh why's she looking at me like that?? Did I say something stupid? Or is it something else? 

She was still staring at him.

What- what's wrong?? Hello! miss! Would you please say something? It's- uh.. nobody ever stared at me like that? What's wrong with this girl? Wait- is there something on my face???

"Umm? Is something wrong?" He asked. She didn't say anything. 

Now that I look at her carefully, she is actually kinda pretty. She is- wait! She haven't blinked for a while! Not even once! Is- is she really okay? Shall I..

He moved his hand towards her hesitantly. He grabbed her hand and said "Miss, are you okay?" She moved. He pulled his hand back before she could see. He was a bit embarrassed because he never held a girls hand before. Except akane, his childhood friend.

"You came back because you regret doing that? Or was it because you were worried? Well, like I said you were the only one who gave me something to eat. Other people ran away" she said 

What? What's she talking about? I ran away too though.. but that's not what's important right now??? Why did she continue from where she left? I replied to that question?I was talking to her the whole time..? The whole time she was stopped- stopped?? Did she actually stop? 

"Umm.. did you stop just now?" Ryuta asked her. "Huh? Stopped? No? I was talking about you being the first person to give me food?" She replied.

That means... she doesn't know about that?

"What's the matter?" She asked. "No it's nothing.." he remembered he haven't introduced himself "oh, I'm tanaka ryuta. Sorry I just came to talk to you all of a sudden" 

"Ah ryuta! That's your name? Ryuta.. Ryu - ta? Hmm.. " she kept saying his name.

Why's this so embarrassing? I mean it's just my name but when she's saying it like that.. it's..

"So humans have names?" She said. "Huh? What do you mean? And why do you keep saying human?" Ryuta was confused. 

Does she not have a name??? More importantly, is she not a human???

"I don't really know how I ended up here, but from where I came, we don't really have names.. we just remember each other by our faces.. actually, we don't even talk that much to call eachother by names.. all that we are worried about is food.. As long as we have food, we don't care much about others.. and everyone needs to find their own food.. it's not like that here I think." she said.

What's she talking about??

She continued, "I don't know how I'm able to speak the same language as humans.. ah! and here you have to get food by paper? What was that again? Ah yes, money! I don't have that so I couldn't get any food. I asked a few people but they ran away.. the shopkeepers won't give me anything for free either.. I was really hungry.. I didn't know what to do.. but then I saw you holding a lot of bags so I asked you, and you actually gave me food.. oh yeah, your question. I say human because I wasn't one before.. I used to be a lizard.."

What- what the heck?? Are you for real? I mean, even though what she just said explains why she was acting like that! BUT SHE WAS A LIZARD??? How's that possible? So she became a human? And she can speak human language now? She didn't even know about money? Can I believe her??

"I- umm.. how am I supposed to believe that?" Ryuta said. "Huh? So you don't believe me? Can't you see how I'm failing walk on two feet? Though I can stand just fine now. Maybe I'll be able to walk soon too. Humans are weird. Why do they walk on two feet?" She said. "I.. guess.. you are right but.." ryuta still couldn't believe all that. It was hard for him to accept that something like that can actually happen

True that she was walking like that.. but what if she was just pretending? Maybe she is a chunnibyou? Like all of these are delusions? I'll just agree for now I guess..

Fireworks started. The whole sky lit up. He didn't think about what his friends would say about him leaving just like that. Even though they decided to watch the fireworks together, but he came here anyway.

I forgot about the fireworks! I need to go bac-

He was leaving when he heard her "Say, how do they do that? What are those?  Why are they so pretty?" He turned back and his eyes widened when he saw her looking at the fireworks in the sky. Her green hair were shinning. She looked at him and smiled "Aren't they pretty?" He didn't realize how he was staring at her. "Yes, very pretty" he replied without thinking. "Huh?" She was confused because he wasn't even looking at the fireworks at all. He realised what he has just said "I mean the fireworks! the fireworks!! They are very pretty!" He said and laughed nervously. She wondered what's wrong with him? Why did he get worried all of a sudden?

What the hell is wrong with me?? I almost said something weird.. she'd think I'm weird. I mean I just met someone and said something like that "you are pretty", of course they'll think I'm disgusting.

He thought while looking up at the fireworks.. he couldn't look back at her.. She didn't think anything like that at all because she didn't know it could mean that way too. She was wondering why he said they are pretty when he never looked at them. She didn't know why he was acting like that either. "Ryuta..?" She said. He was lost in thoughts he didn't realize that she was calling his name. "Ryuta!?" She repeated. "Yes!!" He came back into the real world. 

That scared me! Was she calling me all this time?

"Ryuta, what will you do after this?" She asked. "I- I'll go back home? I need to look for my friends before that though.." he replied, trying not to make eye contact.

She keeps calling me by my given name. I don't know why but it kind of feels weird.. like embarrassing.. I don't know..

"Ah I see.. can I? Umm.. can I go back with you?" She said. 

Huhhhhhhh???? What does she mean??

"Like I don't know where to go.." she added 

"Ehh really? What about your home then?" He asked her. He thought she must have a home and she's just a middle schooler with her weird delusions. "Like I said, I don't know how I came here.. so I don't know how to go back either.. all I remember is that I used to be a lizard.. nothing else.. my home.. my family.. nothing.." 

What? This girl! She has no where to go? I.. what should I do..? If I bring her back with me, they'd say weird stuff.. mom.. I wonder if she'll let her in?? But I have to help someone who's no place to stay.. police station? Maybe I should go ask there? And her parents will come to take her back? But she doesn't even know her name? What should I do ??? Ahhhhh someone help meeee!! 

"Umm.. so.. if you want to go.. you'd have to tell others about this.. is that okay?" Ryuta asked. He thought if it's really something like that then she has to hide this secret. Of course, he still didn't believe her because he saw things like this only in animes. It's not something that can happen in real life. Or so he thought.  "I don't care. As long as I can have food" she replied. "What? Really?" He was shocked. "Yes, because you can survive without other things, but food is important for living." 

She has a point. But it's like I'm adopting a lost kitten. To be honest, it would've been better if she was a kitten. But to bring a girl back home... How will I explain this to everyone?

"Umm.. okay.. I'll.. uhh.. ask my friends.. first..." He said looking downwards at his feet. He looked like he wasn't sure. She grabbed his hand "then let's go" she said smiling. "Ahhh!! wait!! do you even know where they are?? and will you stop pulling my hand?? I'll walk on my own..!?" She kept running to the way ryuta pointed before, while dragging him along. "Hey?? Will you listen?"

She stopped all of a sudden. "Ryuta?" She said. She was still holding his hand. "What is it?" He replied as if he was annoyed. She turned back and said "why do you look so worried? " 

Huh? Do I really look worried?

"All you need to do is smile, and everything will be alright!" She added.

She met me just now. But she could tell that. I guess the word "depression" is written on my forehead. That's why, even a stupid middle-schooler chunnibyou girl could read it. No wonder everyone around me is worried about me. But.. but.. actually I'm not all that depressed.. I just.. I just can't help but think a lot.. about weird stuff.. I do think that life is meaningless but that doesn't mean I would commit suicide or anything? I'm just-

"Ryuta?" She said as she came closer "See! You are doing that again!"  "I- no.. it's not like that.." he didn't want to say anything about himself to a stranger "umm.. anyways let's go.. they are over there.. near that tree.. I mean they were there when I left " he pointed toward a tree. "Then let's go" she said and smiled.

What's wrong with this girl?

He thought. His face was turning red, when he saw her smiling like that.
