Chapter 15:

Fake Out

Beyond The Void

“Hold on a minute!” Emmett’s voice echoed, shattering the memory, and I found myself back in the living room. “I’m not having this, you’re telling me they just randomly asked you to join and you said yes? That’s the most stupid thing I’ve ever-”

“You moron!” I yelled at him. “You absolute idiot! You brought us back to real life!”

“...Oh.” Emmett looked around sheepishly. “Well, how was I supposed to know not to talk? You didn’t tell me!”

“I didn’t tell you because I thought it was common sense, you dumbass!”

“It’s fine, just do it again.” Emmett closed my eyes.

“No, hold on, I can’t anymore, not today, my reserves are empty.”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah, memory sharing actually takes a lot more magical energy than you’d expect. We can meet after class tomorrow and I’ll show you the rest, or I can just give you the summarized version now.” I said.

“Nah, just show me tomorrow, that would be better.” Emmett said as he got up.”Welp, guess I’m out, then. I really need to rest tonight, as well.”

I got up and dapped him up. “See you tomorrow, then.”

Emmett nodded and left. I started to make my way up and saw Rosy descending.

“Master Arthur, I’ve cleaned your bed, it’s spot free.”

“Thank you so much, Rosy, I don’t know what I would do without you.”

“You flatter me too much, master.”

I fell asleep the moment my head hit the pillow due to how utterly exhausted and broken I was from this eventful day.

So many things happened on the very first day of your transmigration, huh? You should cherish the time you still have, within that body…I’ll have it back soon.

I heard the voice in my head as I drifted off to sleep, but was too exhausted to respond.

The next day, I sat at the front of my class next to Louise. Emmett apparently wasn’t in this class, so I decided to take the seat right next to her.

“Why are you sitting next to me?” She was clearly still upset, although I wouldn’t blame her. The fact that she had even showed up in the first place was commendable. “What did you guys decide to do yesterday?”

“Nothing, I didn’t finish telling him everything, we’re supposed to meet up again today.” I whispered to her.

“In that case, count me out again.” She whispered back.

“No, hold on, I actually need you for something important.” I said.

“What is it?” She finally turned to look at me for the first time.

“I wanted to ask you out on a date.” I said with a straight face, not betraying any emotion or expression.

“What?” Her face immediately turned red. “You-who did that to my brother, is asking me out?”

“Yup.”

“Why?”

“Because I feel like it.”

“What if I refuse?” She asked softly.

“Nothing happens.”

“I won’t get kicked off the team you and Emmett formed?”

“First of all, we haven’t formed a team yet, and second of all, why the hell would I kick you out of the team just because you rejected me, are you stupid?”

“Oh…let me think about it, then.”

The fact that she hadn’t outright rejected me immediately, which was the most likely scenario in my head, was a good sign. Time to move onto phase 2, and hopefully managed to pull out an underdog victory.

“Actually, if you say yes, then I really feel like going today, and I’ll tell Emmett to buzz off and wait til tomorrow.”

“And, uh, where exactly do you plan on taking us?”

“It’s a secret, you’ll see if you come.” I answered secretively, trying to sound cool and mysterious, but all she did was laugh. “Why are you laughing, I’m being serious!”

“I know, sorry. Let’s just go today, alright?”

“Wait, does that mean you’re saying yes?”

“I’m not saying no.”

“Can you two please shut up!” A short student with glasses poked me in the ribs. “I’m trying to concentrate here, alright?”

“S-Sorry…”

Louise apologized as well, and we decided not to talk anymore, saving it for later. After class, me and Louise walked around campus, looking for Emmett.

“Imagine if we just randomly ditched him and left?” I said. “How funny would that be?”

“Not funny at all, I don’t see the humor in that.” She answered flatly.

“I was just kidding, it’s an imaginary scenario.”

Speaking of the devil, Emmett popped out right before us. Or as the french quote literally translated into english would say: “When we talk about the wolf, we see its tail.”

“What the hell are you waffling about?” Emmett looked perplexed.

Oops, I’d accidentally said that out loud for some odd reason.

“Alright, let’s get a move on then, shall we?” He said.

“Nah.” I answered.

“What do you mean, nah? You have to show me the rest of the-”

“We’ll do that tomorrow, I’ve got a date today.”

“A-A date? With who?” He suddenly exclaimed, interested in my life all of a sudden, before snapping back to reality. “No, wait, hold up. What if that Selphine woman ambushes us again?”

“Don’t worry, she won’t.” I reassured him.

“How do you know for sure, though?” Louise interrupted. “Maybe Emmett’s right, and we need to prioritize-”

“Nope, I know what I’m doing, let’s go.” I cut her off.

I grabbed Louise by the arm and started dragging her away as Emmett stood there, dumbfounded.

“You’re…going on a date with…Louise?” He muttered in pure disbelief, unable to fathom the events that had just transpired before his very eyes.

As we gained a bit of distance on him, Louise suddenly yanked her arm back and gave me a dirty look.

“Don’t do that again!” She snarled.

“Sorry, I just wanted to avoid that prick Emmett.” I explained.

“It’s fine, let’s just go. Where are we headed, anyway?”

“I told you, it’s a secret. You’ll see when we get there.” I answered.

“Fine…”

We then made our way out of Winterbury campus, walking side by side.
