Chapter 3:

Lula and Her Trials

Silent Shards

I glanced around, my eyes searching for any semblance of distinction, but alas, every direction mirrored the next, leaving me adrift in a sea of uniformity. Undeterred, I mustered the courage to break the silence and implored, "Tell, who are you? Reveal yourself to me!"

A mesmerizing enigma materialized before my very eyes, its ethereal presence evoking a sense of awe. My senses were entranced as a flickering fire ignited atop this enigma, its vibrant hues dancing from passionate red to vibrant orange, finally settling into a warm, comforting yellow. Yet, what truly captivated me was the ethereal green glow that permeated the air, infusing my being with a surge of life energy. At the base, a deep hue of blue gracefully transitioned into tranquil indigo, eventually blossoming into the resplendent regality of violet.

Gradually, this wondrous spectacle began to take the shape of a grand door. In its center, intricately carved, two fish formed a perfect circle, their tails gracefully intertwining with one another's heads. And in the heart of that circle, a smaller formation caught my attention, from which a figure emerged, cloaked in an air of mystery.

As the ethereal cloak lifted within this mystical realm, my eyes widened with anticipation. Much like the gate itself, the figure before me bore a striking resemblance. Her lustrous tresses cascaded down, meticulously tied in a captivating gradient, beginning with a radiant yellow at the crown, seamlessly transitioning into a mesmerizing middle-orange, and finally culminating in a fiery red at the tips. Her eyes, shimmering like precious emeralds, gazed upon me, while her regal attire draped her in hues of sapphire.

With an air of authority, she introduced herself, her voice carrying a hint of otherworldliness. "I am Lula, the Guardian of the Archway. What has befallen you, that you stand frozen before me?"

A nervous chuckle escaped my lips as I struggled to find words amidst the enchantment that surrounded me. "Ah, what could explain my current state of bewilderment?"

At that moment, a whimsical thought took hold of my mind. Who cares about existential concerns when one is in the presence of such a magnificent maiden? Unable to contain myself any longer, a mischievous remark tumbled out of my mouth, causing my eyes to widen. "So? You, an ancient sorceress? Yet you are so-so"

Lula's eyes twinkled with amusement as she burst into laughter, the melodious sound echoing through the mystical chamber.

.

"If I were to guess, you're not here just for a good time," the Watcher, whose presence had slipped my mind, remarked.

The watcher turned its attention to Lula, its tone carrying a touch of warning. "Enough with the grace, don't toy with my observer, or I might just spill your secret."

Curiosity swelled within me, compelling me to delve deeper into Lula's purpose. But before I could utter a word, Lula gently pressed a finger to my lips, silencing me. "Aren't you here to face trials, young boy?"

Desiring to speak, I gestured for her to remove her hand, signaling my agreement. "Yes," I managed to convey.

Suddenly, my focus snapped back into place, prompted by the Watcher's interjection. "You fool! Don't get distracted, or I won't guide you. I might even send you off to a realm where the most wicked of women dwell."

"Ah, my apologies. I'll stay focused," I replied, chastising myself for momentarily losing sight of my true objective. It became crystal clear—I had to find a way to establish my existence, even if it meant venturing through countless worlds or braving arduous trials. I was resolute in my determination to do whatever it takes.

Resolute in her duty, Lula divulged, "As you're aware, the trials consist of four parts. Once you successfully overcome all of them, I shall unlock this gateway, and you will discover your path."

"If I fail to pass any of the trials?" I queried.

A mischievous smirk played upon her lips as she replied, "Even if that were the case, I would still open this door. However, without clearing each stage, there will be no path forged ahead to the world you are destined for."

Before I could inquire further or express my desire to stay within this realm, my words were abruptly cut off. Lula snapped her fingers, and akin to the vibrant hues of her hair, the vortex once again engulfed me, whisking me away.

Yet, amidst the whirlwind, I managed to catch a snippet of her words, "Sorry! You cannot. You shall be known as an entity unaccepted by any realm."

The vortex dissipated, leaving me standing in a room that defied all conventional understanding. Bathed in an otherworldly glow, its walls were adorned with intricate patterns pulsating with ethereal energy. Soft, multicolored lights danced along the edges, casting an enchanting aura. The very air seemed filled with anticipation, as if it held the secrets of this realm, waiting to be unraveled.

"Mm, so this is the first location for my initial trial," I murmured to myself, taking in the surreal surroundings.

The Watcher, whose presence I had nearly forgotten, chimed in with a hint of exasperation, "Of course, you fool."

A sudden realization washed over me—I had entered this realm woefully unprepared for the trials that lay ahead. Excitement mingled with apprehension as I grappled with the uncertainty of what awaited me. Questions flooded my mind: What was the purpose of this trial? How would I navigate its challenges?

"Don't dwell on the specifics. I won't reveal anything about this trial or any others. Stay focused, and the answers will reveal themselves," the Watcher reminded me, urging me to concentrate.

"But how can you have faith in me? You don't even know me properly," I questioned, my doubts surfacing.

"I have some faith in you, enough to choose you as my first observer," it replied cryptically.

My curiosity piqued, I pressed further, "What do you mean by 'first'?"

In an exasperated outburst, the Watcher bellowed, "Stop wasting your time on trivial details! Focus on the task at hand!"

With that, a surge of determination coursed through me. I would face whatever lay before me with unwavering courage and resourcefulness. However, my resolve teetered on the edge of collapse, just as the room itself began to morph and reveal its true nature.

As I turned to survey my surroundings, a shock of recognition coursed through my veins. This enigmatic room, with its pulsating walls and mystical ambiance, was a replica of my bedroom. Every minute detail had been meticulously recreated—the positioning of furniture, and the arrangement of personal belongings. It was as if a duplicate of my reality had been constructed within this ethereal realm.

The room's illusion played tricks on my mind. Objects within the chamber seemed to taunt me, each one promising a unique trial. A cluttered desk strewn with papers and scattered pens demanded order and organization, serving as a metaphor for the inner chaos I wrestled with. A mirror on the wall reflected not only my physical appearance but also my inner doubts and insecurities, challenging me to find self-acceptance amidst the trials that awaited.
