Chapter 4:

Record no.4

nameless record of extraordinary (for me) events

I substituted my shabby sleeping t-shirt with another one, navy and less shabby and out of habit grabbed my neutral (still too big) hoodie. As it turned out it wasn't necessary because that day you could finally feel the approaching summer outside.

I don't like summer it makes sleep even harder and just staying at home and playing games makes me question my existence all over again. Just a week of such unbalanced and pointless lifestyle makes me feel way too depersonalised.

I actually have my higschool entrance exams next week but I just couldn't care less, not to mention I will most likely do well on it effortlessly. Ironically, my tendency for thinking way too much about useless stuff (which slowly destroys myself from inside) makes me appear intelligent in front of medicore NPCs. My brain seems so be interested in anything and is very eager to learn, it's probably a waste. My consciousness doesn't allow me to have ambition, I can't even suffer because I have no reason to. Let's see if breaking routine will shift my mind into another direction. I keep wondering what this girl is up to, just the fact I took an interest in another human being is a step forward, huh?

I came outside and locked the door, she wasn't there anymore. Was it a prank or something? I felt weirdly disappointed. The hopeless feeling was back again. I took a few steps just to open the wooden wicket and look around, just in case. As soon as my leg crossed the line of fence I felt a sudden grasp on my ankle and heard an aggressive hiss. An uncontrollable sound left my mouth, I didn't even know I could still make such a high and cute voice: "Gyah!". Yes, of course it was her. She was squatting there, lurking all that time.
I hope she didn't see my disappointment.
-Dude, did you piss yourself just now? - she burst out laughing - You could be kinda adorable if you tried, not like you aren't already but you know..
- ...am I being bullied? I suppose new experiences make life brighter, thank you very much. - I responded staring blankly at her currently exposed sharp canines. I wonder if it's genetic, it must be, is that a mutation of some kind?
-Definitely. It's better to start acquaintance with a bit of negative experience, don't you think? You lower your expectations and value of next positive impression rises. I can give you a candy now and you will come to adore me, eh? - she snorted in the usual way.
-Althrough your method actually makes sense, you don't share it with your prey.. it breaks the whole effect, if you show too much consciousness of you actions your sympathy points decrease drastically.. - I tried to explain but she interrupted me with chuckle again.
-See? It worked, look how engaged you are now, in addition I gained some trust by acting recklessly. Now I will gain again by explaining, you don't even have an occassion to think about hidden motives now. - she concluded with smirk.
-Gasp, how sly. - I responded monotonously but I indeed couldn't deny her point.
Memorised.
"So, where are we going?" - I asked.
-Hmm, that's a good question. That's what I need you for.
She said she had to find a certain place but she didn't know where it was. All she had was just a faint and probably deformed childhood memory. She asked me if there were any forest with a lot of birch trees nearby. Yes, there was one, when I told her she decided to check it out immediately which meant an hour of walking in this scorching sun.

We walked in silence which surprisingly wasn't awkward at all. The weather was beautiful and as we were getting away from built-up area, the landscape was actually stunning. Both fields and and wild meadows were sparkling in the sun. The sky was amazingly blue with cotton candy like coulds (cumulonibuses, foreshadowing the rain). How could I forget how splendid could world be, I was actually glad I came. I used to play there when I was younger, it added some bittersweet nostalgy to the overall feeling.
Eventually we reached the forest (finally some shadow). Her eyes brightened a bit once passed first trees, I didn't intend to ask her anything, we were just strangers anyway. I only wanted to know what exactly we are looking for, since I was supposed to help.
-Hmm, there should be a house, empty one, surrounded by birch trees I think. I have no idea where though. It may be lost somewhere, covered in moss or ivy, not sure if it even exists. - She looked up while saying the last sentence. - Help me find it. - she smiled again.
Well, if there was a house, there must've been a path leading to it, most likely. So we just followed the one we were currently on and found a small, neglected lane. Just like that, surprisingly easily. I expected it to be an exhausting and fruitless search basing on her description but whatever. We followed it and found ourselves surrounded by birch trees, exactly like I imagined. There it was, kinda rotten, half digested by some wild ivy, small but neat house.
-I need to go inside. - her eyes became quite big, I didn't think she could make such expression.
That idea made me feel uneasy but I mindlessly followed her anyway. She had to wrestle a bit with the old doorknob but it eventually gave in. The door opened with a terrifying screech.
Deep inside the darkness I saw a pair of shining eyes.
-You finally came. - said the voice, very familiar, childish voice.
My heart froze. I don't know what happened afterwards because I simply collapsed.
