Chapter 3:

Akiko's Dalliance with Digits and Danglings

Magical Mischief: Akiko's Journey

The bustle of the shopping mall filled the air as Hiro, Yumi, and a begrudging Akiko moved through the throng of shoppers. Electronic music pulsed rhythmically from nearby stores, creating a soundscape of life in the busy marketplace.

"Fine, but I still don't see the point though," Akiko complained, her arms crossed over her chest, a look of discontent playing on her face. "I love my robe. Why can't I just keep wearing it?"

Yumi released a deep sigh, pinching the bridge of her nose in frustration. "Akiko," she began, her tone patient but strained, "it's not about your robe. It's about blending in. You're not in your world anymore."

Akiko rolled her eyes, scoffing at Yumi's words. "So, what you're saying is that I should become boring and forget who I am just to fit into this weird world?"

Yumi's brow furrowed, her mouth opening to retort, but Hiro intervened. "Akiko, it's not about forgetting who you are," he said, his voice soft yet firm. "It's about being able to move around without drawing unnecessary attention."

"But I like standing out," Akiko retorted with a huff. "Besides, why would anyone want to look like everyone else? It's dull."

Her whining echoed through the bustling mall as they weaved through the crowd, the lively chatter of shoppers and rustling shopping bags serving as a backdrop to their conversation. Just as Yumi was about to give Akiko another piece of her mind, Akiko abruptly stopped, her eyes wide with wonder.

In front of them was a Gothic paradise. The store, aptly named 'Lace and Shadows', was filled with ruffled dresses, corsets, and accessories adorned with lace and pearls, all basked in a soft, mysterious purple light. Akiko’s whining ceased, replaced by a look of pure joy and excitement.

"We… we have to go there!" she exclaimed, her gaze fixed on the window display showcasing a striking ensemble of a black lace dress paired with a matching parasol. "If I have to wear these… clothes," she said, wrinkling her nose at the word, "then at least let it be something I like."

Yumi started to argue, her mouth opening to talk about the importance of blending in, but the words died on her lips. She glanced at Hiro, who merely shrugged.

"Okay, Akiko," Yumi finally conceded, pointing towards the store. "But remember, we're trying to find clothes that help you blend in."

"Okay, Akiko," Yumi says, handing her a sleek, black device. "This is your phone. It's more than a tool for communication; it's your ID, wallet, and much more."

Akiko eyes the device with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. "This...this is my wallet? How can that be?"

Yumi sighs, trying to explain. "It's all digital, Akiko. Money, ID, everything. We use digital currency. You pay for things by scanning the code on the screen."

"But what if I lose it?" Akiko worries, twirling the phone between her fingers.

"Just don't," Yumi says, offering her a wry smile.

Before Yumi or Hiro can reply, Akiko is already stepping inside the shop, pulling them along with her. The store is a gothic and lolita lover's paradise: black lace dresses with puffy skirts, bright pink corsets adorned with satin ribbons, deep purple bustiers contrasted with white lace chokers, and rows upon rows of alluring accessories.

An assistant, a young woman in a black lace dress with a white apron, a headband, and a large bow in her hair, approaches them with a welcoming smile.

"Welcome to Lace and Shadows! Can I assist you with anything?"

"We're just looking," Yumi replies politely, letting Akiko explore the store. She watches with mild amusement as Akiko practically bounces from one rack to the next.

The assistant, still standing by, looks at Akiko curiously. "How old are you, sweetie?" she asks. "Fourteen?"

"I'm not a kid," Akiko frowns, pointing at her chest with a hand. "I'm nineteen!"

The assistant blinks in surprise, quickly apologizing. Akiko dismisses it with a wave of her hand and dives back into the sea of clothing.

Throughout the store, Akiko tries on various items, holding up black dresses against her petite frame, slipping on lace gloves, donning oversized bows and hairpieces. The accessories, from elegant lace chokers to skull-patterned stockings and arm warmers, have her particularly enthralled.

Eventually, her eyes land on a door labeled 'Adults Only'. Curiosity piqued, she looks over at Yumi, who nods at her encouragingly. Following Yumi's earlier instructions, Akiko scans her new phone over a small pad next to the sign, and the door slides open.

Dipping into the 'Adults Only' section, Akiko approaches a rack of leather skirts, all barely larger than a wide belt. Her eyes shine with interest, and she pulls a microskirt from the rack. It's a deep, midnight black, adorned with several silver buckles and laces that crisscross the front.

"I think I'll try this," she announces, her voice echoing slightly in the intimate space. She moves to another rack, this one filled with a variety of fishnet stockings, some with intricate lacework climbing up the side, others simpler. She picks up a pair that is decorated with tiny silver studs, and adds it to her growing pile.

Meanwhile, Yumi and Hiro, after a shared glance, step into the section as well. Hiro is looking increasingly uncomfortable, the red flush on his cheeks deepening. Yumi, on the other hand, is finding the entire situation amusing, a smirk playing at the corner of her lips.

Over the next hour, Akiko began to try on outfits. Her first selection was a sleek, black bodice with silver clasps down the front, paired with a burgundy, knee-length skirt that had layers upon layers of lace trim. It was daring and eccentric, and Hiro's face blushed a deep crimson as he caught sight of her.

Her second choice was a purple corset with a matching miniskirt, crisscrossed with black laces. The outfit was more revealing than the first, offering teasing glimpses of skin and pushing the boundaries of Akiko's usually reserved style. But it still wasn't quite 'the one'.

Next, Akiko found herself drawn to tops with slits in intriguing places, dresses that barely covered her backside, and skirts that seemed more belts than actual clothing. Each one was more daring and eccentric than the last. There were corsets that laced up the front, showcasing her slender waist and the teasing glimpse of skin beneath.

However, despite the fun she was having and the shock she was delivering to her companions, none of these were what she was looking for. She wanted something that was uniquely her, something that blended the shock and awe of her newfound fashion interest with the regality and poise she carried from her life back home.

Then, she finally saw it. The perfect ensemble that exuded a mix of sweet innocence and tempting allure. It was like nothing she had ever worn before, but it intrigued her nonetheless.

The centerpiece was a black corset, adorned with belts and buckles that were more ornamental than functional. The corset was intricately laced up at the front, adding a dash of elegance to its edgy design. It cinched her waist, accentuating her figure and making her look even more alluring.

Below the corset, there was a micro miniskirt. The skirt was a bubblegum pink that contrasted with the black corset, and it was covered in ruffles and lace, adding a Lolita touch to the outfit.

To complete the look, there were matching fishnet stockings that ran up her legs, held up by garters that connected to her skirt. An array of black leather belts crisscrossed her thighs, creating a striking contrast against her skin and the pink skirt.

A velvet choker encircled her neck, adding the final touch to her outfit. The choker was black, like the corset, and it had a tiny silver bell attached to it that tinkled softly when she moved.

"I think I've found it!" Akiko called out excitedly, emerging from the dressing room in the daring ensemble. She twirled around, her skirt flaring out, displaying her attire in all its glory.

Hiro's eyes nearly bulged out of his head. He choked on his words, trying to say something, anything. But all that came out was a strangled, "Wha--?!"

Yumi, on the other hand, let out a chuckle. She had expected something extravagant, but Akiko had managed to surprise her nonetheless.

"All right, Akiko," Yumi said, shaking her head in disbelief. "You definitely won't blend in, but I suppose that's not what you're aiming for anyway."

Akiko shot her a grin. "Exactly! If I'm going to wear these strange clothes, I'm going to do it in my own style!" Akiko announced, causing Hiro and Yumi to exchange knowing glances. They knew better than to argue with the determined expression on Akiko's face.

Eyes sparkling with a mix of mischief and satisfaction, she held the three outfits she'd chosen up to the light, inspecting them one last time before making her final decision. There was the sleek, black bodice paired with a burgundy skirt, the purple corset with a matching miniskirt, and the newest ensemble that managed to combine elements from the previous ones into a perfect blend of Gothic Lolita fashion and Akiko's unique sense of style.

She turned to the young employee who had patiently endured her hour-long fashion show and asked, "Is it okay if I wear this one out?"

The employee blinked, obviously taken aback by the request. But she quickly recovered, letting out a light chuckle. "Of course," she responded, "it's not a common request, but we don't have a rule against it."

Akiko beamed at the employee, her heart pounding with the excitement of the new adventure that was just beginning. She already had the perfect clothes, and she couldn't wait to see what the rest of this strange new world had in store for her.

Yumi, for her part, couldn't help but feel a pang of amusement and fondness for Akiko's eccentricities. She had thought this shopping trip would be a nightmare, but instead, it turned out to be quite entertaining. And who knows, maybe she might just learn a thing or two from Akiko about being true to one's self. After all, wasn't that the essence of style?

Hiro, still somewhat shell-shocked from the radical transformation of Akiko, managed to mutter a few words of encouragement. "Looking good, Akiko."

With her new outfits in hand, Akiko moved towards the checkout, her hips swaying confidently in her new attire. Her fingers traced over the mysterious device Yumi had given her earlier - her new phone. It was time to figure out how to use it for herself.

Even with the newfound fondness brewing within her, Yumi could not suppress the sparks of rivalry that flared up at the sight of Akiko confidently strutting towards the cashier. But she couldn’t deny that Akiko’s passion was infectious, and it brought an unusual, albeit grudging, smile to her face.

At the checkout, Akiko’s uncontainable enthusiasm met its match in the form of the payment process. The process that Yumi and Hiro took for granted appeared completely alien to her. She looked at the phone in her hand, then to the payment pad on the counter, then back to the phone. Her brow furrowed in confusion.

“Just place the phone on the pad, Akiko,” Hiro gently instructed, trying to suppress his amusement at Akiko’s bafflement.

With a look of uncertainty, Akiko placed the phone against the pad. The device beeped in approval and Akiko nearly jumped back in surprise.

"Oh! That's how it works!" she exclaimed, her eyes gleaming with the excitement of having learned something new.

Yumi and Hiro exchanged glances once again, both suppressing laughter. Despite her initially intimidating and aloof nature, Akiko had a certain charming naivety about her that was becoming harder to ignore.

Just as they were about to lead Akiko out of the store, a glint from the corner of her eye caught her attention. Turning her head, she saw an entire section devoted to accessories. There was an array of Gothic-inspired jewelry, such as chokers, bracelets, and earrings, as well as an assortment of hair accessories, from clips to ribbons and bows, all in various shades of black, purple, and white.

"Akiko," Yumi warned, "We still have a lot to do today."

But it was too late. Akiko had already set her sights on a collection of lace chokers and matching arm cuffs. With a grin, she darted over to the section, leaving Yumi and Hiro to follow in her wake.

Eyes sparkling with delight, Akiko dove headfirst into the vast array of accessories. She picked out a few lace chokers, arm cuffs with buckles, and a pair of fishnet gloves. She found a silver chain belt that had small skulls dangling from it and a couple of hair clips adorned with tiny bat wings. Each item she added to her growing collection brought a new wave of glee that seemed to energize her even more.

As she moved along the displays, her eyes landed on a futuristic stand labelled 'Piercings'. Beside the stand, a full-length mirror shimmered and transformed into a holographic image of herself. The instructions displayed at the bottom of the hologram prompted her to touch a piercing she liked, and it would instantly show what it would look like on her.

This new level of technology enthralled her. Tentatively, she touched a silver hoop nose ring. The holographic image of Akiko sported the hoop, and she took a step back, observing herself with it. She giggled, touching her nose and then the holographic nose, amazed at the visual trickery.

Encouraged, she started experimenting with various ear piercings, each one appearing on the holographic Akiko with a touch. She tried out multiple ear cuffs, a couple of helix piercings, and even a bold industrial piercing. Hiro and Yumi watched from a safe distance, sharing amused smiles as they watched Akiko discover another part of their world.

Akiko’s fascination continued, her fingers hovering over a selection of eyebrow and lip piercings. Her curiosity seemed limitless as she continued to explore the world of body modifications.

“Hiro,” Yumi nudged him, whispering. “Do you think she’s actually considering getting a piercing?”

He shrugged, his eyes not leaving the delighted Akiko. “I wouldn’t put it past her. But let's wait and see."

And so, they watched as Akiko played with the holographic mirror, her excitement infectious and her enthusiasm painting an undeniable smile on their faces.

With each touch, the holographic Akiko adorned a new piece of jewelry, an excited giggle accompanying each transformation. She finally decided on a silver hoop for her nose, a delicate stud for her lip, and a cascade of stars trailing up the cartilage of her ear.

Caught up in her merriment, her eyes caught sight of an "Adults Only" button at the bottom of the hologram. With a mischievous glint in her eyes, she reached out to press it.

"Wait, Akiko, don’t—" Yumi's warning came a tad too late.

The button had been pressed, and the holographic Akiko transformed once more. This time, it displayed her with a selection of more mature, risqué piercings.

Caught between shock and amusement, Hiro's face turned a shade similar to his hair. "Akiko, maybe that’s not—" He tried to interject, but Akiko was too engrossed in the holographic display, her fingers hovering over the new selections.

"Wow, these are so cool!" Akiko's wide-eyed fascination with the 'adult' piercings didn't wane, and she started experimenting with them on the holographic image, oblivious to the stir she was creating.

Yumi could only exchange exasperated glances with Hiro, her earlier amusement now replaced with mortification. She knew that Akiko didn't fully understand the implications of her actions, but that didn't lessen the embarrassment.

Left alone in the store with their animated companion, Hiro and Yumi watched as Akiko’s eyes widened in surprise when she touched the tab marked 'nipple'. Despite the initial shock, a slow, mischievous smile spread across her face. It was clear she was interested.

"Are you sure about this, Akiko?" Hiro's voice sounded more like a plea, but Akiko was far too engrossed in the holographic image, her fingers exploring her newly decorated virtual self.

"Hiro, you worry too much! This looks cool!" she declared confidently, pressing the 'purchase' button on the screen before they could dissuade her.

"Wait, Akiko," Yumi said, trying to intervene. But Akiko, in her excitement, had already stepped into the nearby booth that opened up. The door slid shut, locking automatically.

"Yumi, what the hell is that?" Hiro whispered, his eyes wide with panic.

Before Yumi could explain, they heard a voice from inside the booth, the AI instructing Akiko to confirm her choices.

A muffled 'yes' was her response, followed by a command for her to disrobe due to her choice of nipple piercings.

In the sterile confines of the piercing booth, Akiko stood naked, the chill of the metallic floor against her bare feet adding a stark contrast to the heated flush spreading across her skin. A thrum of adrenaline pulsed through her veins, the anticipation of what was to come amplifying her senses.

The overhead scanner bathed her lithe form in a cool, otherworldly glow, meticulously mapping her body. Each curve, each delicate feature, from her swollen lips to her pert nipples, was vividly displayed in a three-dimensional hologram. A shiver ran down her spine, not from the cold but from the stark intimacy of her exposure.

As the actual piercing process began, mechanical arms, sleek and precise, emerged from the walls. Each one held a sterilized needle, their metallic points glinting ominously in the harsh neon light. As they neared her, Akiko could feel her heartbeat quicken, anticipation causing her body to tense.

The first sting was on her lip, quick and sharp. It was followed in rapid succession by the other piercings; a swift pinch on her nose, a series of pricks on her ears. Each puncture was an intense burst of sensation, sharp and startling, but nothing compared to the intense, shocking sting when the needles pierced the tender flesh of her nipples.

In response, a startled gasp escaped her lips. The surge of pain triggered something within her, causing her dormant magic to flare up unexpectedly. A wave of raw energy exploded from her, causing the booth's system to glitch.

Amid the disarray, one last needle was activated. Before Akiko could react, it found the sensitive folds of her labia. The sudden intrusion made her scream, the sound echoing within the sterile confines of the booth.

As the arms retracted, she was left panting, the cold metal studs against her skin a constant reminder of the piercing sensation she just endured. The pain gradually faded, replaced by an oddly thrilling awareness of the modifications to her body.

Akiko stepped out of the piercing booth, a trail of holographic receipts floating down to her from the digital interface, indicating the completion of her transactions. The printer by the counter whirred into life, spitting out a paper version of the receipts. Yumi grabbed the slip, eyes widening as she read the list of services Akiko had purchased.

"Labia?!" Yumi exclaimed, her voice echoing in the large store. "Akiko, what the hell were you thinking?!"

"Ow, Yumi, not so loud," Akiko complained, a hand reaching down to rub her still-throbbing lower body. "I didn't mean to... it was my magic again, it went haywire with the pain..."

"Stop with this magic nonsense," Yumi chastised, rolling her eyes. "It's your body, and if you want to pierce your...private parts, that's your business. But you don't need to make up stories to justify it."

"But I didn't know!" Akiko protested. "I didn't know a needle was going to be... um... rammed into me."

Yumi's mouth dropped open in disbelief. "What did you think was going to happen when you chose to get a piercing, Akiko?"

"Well..." Akiko murmured, looking sheepish. "I thought maybe it would be like...a tiny magic tickle or something."

Yumi couldn't help but laugh at the ridiculousness of Akiko's explanation. "A magic tickle? Akiko, that's not how any of this works!"

Akiko began to turn away, muttering about how she wasn't fond of these Earth customs, her complaints laced with a hint of pain. Yumi stopped her, holding out a small bottle that the machine had spat out along with the receipt.

"Here, take this," she said. "It's an antiseptic and pain reliever. Apply it to your piercings."

"But I've got so many bags," Akiko complained, gesturing to the mountain of shopping bags surrounding her. She glanced at the receipt and then at her phone. "And why does my account say zero now? I had such a big number in there before."

"That's because you've spent all your money, Akiko," Yumi explained patiently, a hint of amusement in her voice.

"But it's all digital," Akiko said, sounding confused. "Does it really go away?"

The perplexed look on Akiko's face was enough to send Yumi into another fit of laughter. "Yes, Akiko. Even digital money can run out."

"But I can just get more, right?" Akiko asked, looking hopeful.

"Well, yes... but you have to earn it," Yumi explained, fighting back another wave of laughter at the naïve expression on Akiko's face.

"Earn it? Oh, no. That sounds like work," Akiko groaned, the mere thought of work dampening her spirits.
