Chapter 3:

Let's Be Together... For Now.

Bodyguard Girlfriend

Yugo was stunned by what he heard. The word 'boyfriends' didn't leave his mind.

"Wh-What do you mean boyfriends?!"

"Huh? Dating. That's my condition."

He doesn't answer, not knowing if he's going to accept it, but given the circumstances, he's decided.

"Well, since it's like that..."

"I'm kidding. Hahaha!"

Yara interrupted him, laughing out loud, making him embarrassed to later clarify what he was thinking.

"Yugo, what would people think if we suddenly started dating?"

He remains silent, embarrassed. Yara herself answers.

"Of course it would be weird. You just met me. So I have a plan."

Yugo opened his eyes wide to pay attention to her. She says that this situation would cause them to have to do a lot of explaining about how this happened.

"But I don't need to tell you what happened."

"You are not the new foreign student who is being bombarded with questions from the other curious students. I just arrived, and I don't want to give a bad impression... That's what I promised."

Trying to understand what's going on, Yugo is still scared of Yara and feels that if he refuses her dating request, he will never have another opportunity to protect himself from bullies, and, deep down, he's afraid that she might hit him too. In the end, he ends up accepting the condition.

“Y-Yara, I… I accept your proposal.”

“Hehe! You had no other option.”

Yara smiles and extends her hand to shake him.

“You can just call me Yara, it should be easier for you to say my name like that.”

“Ya-Yara-san.”

...

“Hmm. It's a beginning."

They greet each other, and after that, she says when she will leave the house to meet halfway so they can go to school together.

A new day rises full of possibilities. Yugo, still brooding over his dating arrangement with Yara, wakes up with a sense of anticipation mixed with a little anxiety. He wonders what this new path will be like with his bodyguard. Without experience, Yugo doesn't know how to deal with Yara and walks around wondering what a relationship with her would be like. Wrapped in thoughts of her, he ends up not consulting her after they meet.

They arrive at school without talking, and Yugo gets sweaty and wrapped in great nervousness. Then he moves away from her and goes to sit in her place. A student enters the room and sits down next to him.

“Hey Yugo! How were your vacations?"

"Takashi? I thought you switched schools.”

"Why? I told you I was going to stay here.”

“You didn't come yesterday.”

Takashi is confused.

“Wait… Did you have class yesterday?”

Yugo is outraged.

“Schools started again yesterday, Takashi!”

Yugo turns to the window, avoiding looking at his friend.

Despite being a lonely boy, Yugo walked away from people many times without realizing it, but Takashi always watched him, and even if he distanced himself, he approached Yugo, wanting to be his friend. He was so insistent on joining Yugo during the break that he ended up accepting him and sometimes sharing his bento with Takashi.

The break starts at school, and Yugo remains estranged from Yara.

It is the end of the school day, and they are still away.

Everything stays that way until they leave. While Yugo was leaving school with Takashi, Yara approached the two and started a conversation.

"Hey you."

“Yara-san?”

Takashi whispers in his friend's ear:

“Is he talking to us, Yugo?”

"She. Yara-san is a girl.”

"What? Why is she wearing that uniform?”

“You cut class yesterday. I'll explain later."

“I didn’t know that classes started yesterday!”

“And you thought classes would start on a Tuesday?”

Finding them pretty stupid, Yara stands there looking at them, but then starts talking.

“Are you leaving now?”

“Oh. We're heading home now."

“So, the people in the class want to get together after class to talk. Not everyone is going, but I was wondering if you two would like to come with us too.”

Takashi is silent, watching the two. Yugo is thoughtful for a while, looking at Yara and then responds.

"Oh no. I actually don't feel like going, maybe next time.”

“Hmm. ‘Not in the mood’... Okay. Let it go then.”

Yara says goodbye and leaves smiling. Yugo was a little confused with what he was seeing there, after all, he had never seen a girl talking to his friend. He turns to Yugo and asks questions.

“Yugo. What happened yesterday?"

“Yara is a new student. I'll explain it to you on the way.

“It looked like she was a little disappointed. She really wanted you to come along.”

"Really? It didn't look like it to me, she was smiling."

“Okay, it could just be my impression.”

Takashi gives a slight smile, and the two leave together, talking. Curious, he asks if the two already knew each other before school, and Yugo vehemently denies it.

At home at night, Yugo can't sleep thinking about how bad his day was and blaming himself for being away from her all day. He researched what it's like to be dating all night long, and he couldn't sleep well.

Yugo wants to go back to school and is willing to talk to Yara to resolve some issues that were leaving him in doubt. He also wanted to know if turning down that invitation the day before would have let her down. Yugo arrives early in the classroom, and when he opens the door, he sees Yara sitting at his table. She was expecting him, and her face was not that friendly.

“Hey, you brat. I was waiting for you."

The boy feels a shiver down his spine and goes completely static when he sees her expression.

“I thought you were a bit silly at first, but I already saw that you're dumb.”

“W-What did I do?”

"Wants to know? I asked you to go out with the rest of the students. I still made a sign for you to realize that it was to be accepted. This was the opportunity for us to ‘get to know each other’ better.”

"There is? So that was it?”

“We ate a superb burger, but... wait...”

Yara digressed quickly, remembering what she had eaten, but soon came to her senses.

“YOU HAD TO GO WITH ME!”

Yugo gets scared. It's the third day they've met, and he gets more and more confused about who she is. Her guardian is a great mystery.

“W-What sign did you make? I didn't notice.”

“I set my eyes on you.”

“And how was I supposed to notice that?”

“Because I looked at you.”

“But isn’t that how people usually talk?”

“You had someone on your side. I had to be subtle.”

Yugo hides his face with his hand, disappointed.

“Perhaps you were too subtle.”

“Your friend noticed.”

"How?"

Yara explains to Yugo that he should have accepted it to keep the plan, there they could pretend that they were getting to 'know each other' better only to forge the relationship later. She said that everything was fine and that they would have other opportunities for that.

“Who was your friend? I didn't see him yesterday.”

“Takashi Taki, a friend I made last year. He doesn't let go of me."

"I noticed. You were kind of distant yesterday, I figured you guys were catching up.”

It wasn't like that, Yugo just wasn't feeling comfortable walking with her around school. He didn't want to draw attention.

“We don't know each other well, and the opportunity we had, you were stupid.”

“Sorry… But you shouldn’t call me like that.”

Yugo was a little upset watching Yara laugh.

"Hahaha! I had an idea. Why don't you ask me on a date?"

“W-Wait. Do I have to invite you?

“Of course, you wanna date me.”

“IT WAS YOU WHO PROPOSED THAT!”

"Hey, don't yell at me, worm."

"Sorry."

“Stop apologizing and think about where you'll take me. I've only been here for a short time so I don't know a lot of good places to go out.”

The sense of danger was real, Yugo felt chills being close to Yara and, at the same time, a certain calm. Without realizing it, he was talking to her as if they had known each other for a long time. Now, Yugo is undecided.

“Where do I take Yara on a date?”
