Chapter 10:

Training - Introduction

The White Fragment

The noble girl with blonde drills called me using my status as a commoner while narrowed her eyes in suspicions. Somehow, I also felt some anger on it.

Maybe I was come in the wrong time, I guess I need to come back tomorrow, but I can't do that! I only have seven days before this town got destroyed.

I need to think to escape from this problem, but that Aria girl moved to stop her.

"Ri...Rinafea-sama, please calm down."

"It's not your problem, orphan girl."

So that girl name is Rinafea, huh. I don't mind to be insulted, but Aria has nothing to do with us.

When she was in front of me, she tried to intimidate me. It doesn't have any effect on me, but I tried to act agitated. She tried to questioned me while still intimidate me.

"Who are you, common girl? Are you wanted to become a Five Origin Saint?"

I see. So the five Gods and Goddesses of Five Origin Church shortened as the Five Origins. Noted. And the term Lydia mentioned are Five Origin Saint. Noted, but not interested.

I don't know what's your problem with Aria, but if it's about she's a chosen girl by the gods and goddesses, then you have to accept it and help her in any possible way.

From how she called me and Aria, I'm sure she's a noble who likes to looked down at eveyone whose status below her. If yes, then what depicted from those light novel Makoto-kun lend to me was right, every nobles are scums.

Even though you're a noble, you're just a mortal being (I can't use humans because of how many races in Excelia). We can bleed and die. But if you think you can't die because you're a noble, allow me to give a demonstration.

Wait a minute! Seriously, where's that thought coming from?!

"Why are you shaking your head? Just say something."

Looks like she's being impatient now, better reply her. Hopefully she didn't know what I'm thinking.

"Um... Are those drills on your hair?"

Of all the thing I wanted to say to her, why is it about her hair. Look, now Rinafea seems pissed at me. When I looked at the other, the priest just shook his head while Aria seems scared. As for Lydia, she's just holding her laughter.

Instead of laughing, can you just help me, you disappointment.

"That's it! You're going down!"

I can see many red magic circles floating behind her, aiming at me. Now I can say... I'm screwed.

But before the spells casted, Lydia rushed behind Rinafea and bonked her head, cancelling her spells. Then she scold her.

"Rinafea-sama, you need to control your anger. You need to treat both Aria-san and Annette-san as equal. And don't destroy this sacred place, or the Five Origins will put a curse on you, for eternity."

I gawked in disbelief at seeing Lydia being polite and address me in formality. It felt like she was acting. Maybe when she's become an executioner she needs to deceive her targets with her acts.

Mentioned the word curse made that noble girl scared and apologize to her. Then she pointed at me while her hands trembling in fear.

"T-Then, was that gi- I mean, Annette, another candidate of Five Origin Saint?"

"No, she's not interested to become one."

"That's good. Less competitor the better."

From her reply, I think I understand the problem between Aria and Rinafea.

Rinafea wanted to become a Five Origin Saint, but instead of her, the Five Origins seems favored Aria. Her pride as a noble can't accept an orphan girl like Aria was a choosen candidate, so she lashed at her whenever they met, I guess.

The problem is simple jealosy, but if it not solved and she's still harbor it, the damage will be greater and irrepairable. And it's not only to her, but Aria and everyone who involved in it. Thinking about that reminds me how I failed those two.

Then I heard Rinafea ask Lydia regarding me.

"If she doesn't want to become the Five Origin Saint, then why is she in here?"

"She said she wanted to become strong. But I think she's interested to see Aria and wanted to become her future companions."

You're right about me interested to see Aria, but I have no intention to become her companions. Right now, my objective is fulfill my promise with Annette, to protect Mom and Nee-san.

When Rinafea heard Lydia's answer about my intention to come in here, she was flabbergasted.

"Just that! Then why you're not stopping her?!"

"She's very insistent, but I respect her determination to protect her family. That's why I allowed her to join the training."

She might be put a little bit of lies, like me being insistent, but everything what she said is true.

When Rinafea felt everything has been answered, she turned to me and crossed her arm.

"Since you have no interest to become the Five Origin Saint and wanted to become strong for your family, I, Rinafea Northeim, forgive you for insulting my hairstyle, Annette."

She's mellowed a bit when mentioned about family. My opinion about her increased, only a bit.

"Um... thanks. And sorry."

"Hmmph."

She left me with rude remark and walked to Aria and the priest.

Wait a minute, I think I heard the name Rinafea Northeim in my previous life. But where did I hear it?

I tried to search deep in my memories about her name, but my thought got interrupted with Lydia tapped my shoulder and whispered to me.

"Sorry about this, An-chan. Rinafea-sama might be rude, but it was a layer to cover her true self. So don't be mad at her."

I only nodded at her while she gestured me to join them.

The truth is, I didn't mad at Rinafea because it'll be pathetic for a mentally sixteen-year-old like me for that toward a little girl.

When I joined the other girls, both Lydia and the priest walked toward the altar where the statue of the Five Origins placed.

I took a glance on my side and I see Aria fidgeting her index fingers while glanced at me, like she wanted to talk to me. But when our gaze met each others, she turned her gaze to Lydia and the priest.

As much as I want to talk with you, right now is not the best time. Maybe later when there's some free time, or I can ask Mom the location of the orphanage. Now, let's listen to what Lydia and the priest said.

"Thank you for coming in here, Saint candidates. As you already knew, my name is Lydia, priestess who serve the Wind Goddess Viento. I'm here to supervise and help your training to become a Five Origin Saint."

You do know that I'm not interested to become a Saint, right? But why're you putting me in the same positions as the other candidates, Lydia? Am I have a potential too?

She might be joking. I'm sure she said that because it's too much words and choose to simplify it to few. That must be it.

After Lydia, the next is the head priest.

"My name is Flint, the head priest of Five Origin Church in Silld and follower of Earth God Terra. I will be a training instructor along with Lydia-kun. If you need advice or wanted to consult about something, feel free to talk to me."

He's the head priest in Silld?! I need to show some respect to him starting now. He also said that he's the other training instructor. So, is he the one Lydia mentioned before? Maybe the other one.

After the introduction, Lydia started her explanations.

"Is everyone know about the peace treaty created by the Four Wise Kings 2000 years ago?"

We nodded at her question, in which she nodded back.

"Then, allow me to explain why the Five Origins wanted to choose someone as their Saint. The treaty are under risk to be terminated by the actions of the Lumina Sect Church and those who serve them. If that happen, the great world war between races will happen once again. And this time, Lumina Sect have 'secret weapons' to ensure their victory."

Unlike those isekai genre which always 'please defeat the demon lord' thing, she straight up saying the bad things about the other church sect. But after she explained to me about Lumina Sect Church, I couldn't help but agree with what she said.

To think that those human supremacist group will be the one who cause the war, but it just like one of the common troupe about fantasy isekai, Church are Evil. And I think I know what she meant by secret weapons, even though I want to deny it. I wonder how many of their 'secret weapons' are 'cleaned' by 'them'.

Then I heard both Aria and Rinafea gasped after Lydia's explanation, in which Aria decided to ask her.

"B-but why?"

"'Humans are perfect and the greatest beings, while the other races are leftovers' is what Light Goddess Lumina doctrined to her followers. I can't accept that because everyone in Excelia, including us humans, are flawed beings, and we live with those flaws."

The one who answer her question was the head priest, and he gave such wise words to us.

"Light Goddess are evil? I can't believe it. It's not like in those light novels I read in my previous life."

My eyes widened in surprise when I heard Aria muttered that. My suspicions was right, Aria is an otherworlder. The reincarnated one like me.

I'm also a reincarnator like her, but why I didn't have any cheat like her? It's so frustrating!

When she glanced at me, I turned my gaze to both Lydia and Flint-san. I knew she's suspecting me for hearing her muttering, but I pretended being oblivious.

Then we heard Lydia explained another things regarding being Saint candidates.

"We will train you for a certain amount of time, but, other than Annette-san since she refused, the decisions to become the Five Origin Saint are yours. We have no right to force you to become one."

So Aria and Rinafea have a lot of time to train and choose to become a Saint. While Rinafea seems wanted it, but after hearing Lydia's explanation, she's contemplating her decisions, the same for Aria.

After that, Lydia and Flint-san gave us the ID cards. Unlike the one I have, this one is the latest version with one new feature, class change.

Aria took one since she didn't have it. Rinafea already have one, so she didn't need it. As for me, I need to exchange mine to this latest one.

"This ID card allow you to change your class wherever you are without the need to come to the church, but only when the current class you choose right now already at max rank."

Hearing what Lydia said about this ID card make it feels like I'm in that MMORPG I played in my past life. Well, since I don't need to come in here to change my class is an extra benefits for me.

The maximum rank of the class is five. When it reached max rank, the new class will be unlocked. But not all of the classes can be unlocked by just reaching max rank. There's also certain conditions to fulfill it. And if you're lucky, those conditions can unlock some special class, like my game avatar Kagari, with special class Blood Knight.

Like in my old ID card, I pressed my thumb, and all of my data showed in there, but this time including class. I tried to tap the class, but still can't open the class choices.

Then we saw Flint-san pulled a tome to the center of the altar.

"After your ID registered, please put your ID card to the Tome of Destiny. The tome will scan your ID which allow you to choose the current class you unlocked, starting with Rinafea-sama."

'Tome of Destiny', just like in that game. Maybe after it scanned our ID, we can access the class change.

Well, let's see which class Rinafea will choose. But she choose not and just showed her ID.

"No need, I already choose mine before. Right now, my class is Fire Mage."

Fire Mage, the advanced class after the most basic caster class, Mage. If I remember correctly from the game, the condition to unlock it not only just maxed the rank for Mage, but learn fire magic too, at least level one.

Everyone, including me, looked at her ID if what she said is true. And true to what she said, there's written Fire Mage for her class. Then Lydia praised her.

"So you already at your second class, good work Rinafea-sama."

"Discipline and practices are the key to success."

Wait a minute! Those words... I think I heard it from another game I played in my past life, but what game is it?!

Whatever! Sooner or later I'm going to remember it.

"Then, Aria-san. Please put your ID to the tome."

Aria nodded and walked to the tome. When she put her ID, the tome glowed and many words, which was her unlocked classes, displayed to be shown for us to see.

I couldn't help but surpised at how many of classes she can choose, some of them are special classes, like Hero, Saint, and many more. Not only just me, everyone who witness it also showed their surprise. I even heard Rinafea gritted her teeth in jealousy.

That surprise moment got interrupted when Lydia speak to Aria in shaky tone.

"A-Aria-san, p-please choose one."

"R-right."

Then she decided to choose the special class, Spellblade, and walked back to me and Rinafea position.

"T-then next, Annette-san."

With shaky tone, Lydia called me and I walked to the tome. When I put my ID on the tome, it glowed and only shown four classes which I can choose.

Three of them were the basic combat class. Those were Warrior, Rogue, and Mage. As for the fourth, it was a special class, but that special class caused both Lydia and Flint-san gasped, in which Rinafea bluntly asked both of them regarding my special class.

"I know I was suppose to be jealous at her, but can you explain about that special class called 'Executioner'?"

Yup, the special class I can choose right now is Executioner. I guess because I wanted to learn every useful skills Annette learned in her pervious life as an Executioner caused me to unlock that special class.

If those from White Sect learned that my class is an Executioner, I'm sure they will kill me for being a rogue one.

I can see Lydia and Flint-san contemplating to explain it to her, but Lydia decided to answer her while covering the whole truth.

"They're... 'cleaners'."

"...Cleaners?"

"Think about them as an assassin, but their targets are... the greatest criminals no one can ever face and... 'secret weapons'."

"I understand the first part, but secret weapons? You mean, stealing their weapons?"

"It's complicated! Please don't ask, Rinafea-sama."

"But-"

"Please."

She's grumbled at that, but reluctantly obeyed her plea.

Then Lydia turned at me while pleading, followed by Flint-san.

"Annette-san, no matter what class you choose, never choose Executioner. Please."

You don't need to say it Lydia, because I never intended to choose Executioner as my class after knowing enough about them from you, even though it's a special class. So I just nodded at her and Flint-san and choose Rogue.

The reason I choose Rogue is simple, because my agility is higher than the rest, three while the rest is two. And I'm quite curious what kind of class I can unlock since in the game I focused on Warrior and Mage class.

After I choose my class, I returned to Aria and Rinafea positions. I can hear Lydia and Flint-san sighed in relief. When I looked at Aria, I can see she's wary and cautious at me, maybe beause that special class I can choose.

Then Rinafea ask me regarding my class choice.

"You can choose that special class, but you decided to choose Rogue. Why? Are you pity me because I don't have one unlocked?"

Great, she's jealous at me while narrowed her eyes. She might think I'm better than her because of that, but I'm sure my stats are worse than her. Looks like explanation is needed.

"I'm not pitying you at all, Rinafea-sama."

"You li-"

"I'm not."

When she saw my serious expressions, she seem tensed. Well, time to continue my explanations.

"If I choose that special class, 'the end' will awaits me."

"...The end?"

She didn't understand the meaning of the word I said, so I whispered to her ear about it. But of course I ask her permissions for that.

After I explained the meaning of the word 'the end', she gasped while widened her eyes at me. Sorry for giving you a tiny bit of reality check about this world, Rinafea.

Then Lydia gave an announcement to us.

"Today is just an introduction, and starting tomorrow we start the training. So, take some proper rest and come again tomorrow morning."

We thanked Lydia and Flint-san and leave the church. But before I leave, I can see the statue of Wind Goddess glowed for a while. I shook my head because I might be hallucinating and leave the church.

When I leave the church, I can feel the wind breeze at me, like it's whispering at me. I can hear it clearly, I assume it's a girl, and seems knew me for a long time.

"It's been a long time, Yumeha-senpai."

Again with Yumeha, my name is clearly Yuko, right now it's Annette. Was it has something to do with that glowing statue of Wind Goddess? Hopefully not.

I really need to take some rest for today.
