Chapter 14:

Sudden Alliances

Writing is Therapy: The Tale of Two University Students Who Found Love and Understanding Through the Power of Pen and Paper in a World Not Their Own

When he opened his eyes, Johnathan saw a familiar ceiling. Someone had brought him home, and he felt the familiar softness of his bed. There was still a little daylight, so at least an hour or two must've passed since he fainted. The right side of his head was still pulsating and a little sore. Did he hit the table?

With a deep sigh, he sat up, looking around. When he scanned the room, he saw two figures in the living area of his studio. They didn't seem to be talking, but Nathan and Serena were sitting there for some reason. They were a strange duo as they just casually worked.

When I let out a pained groan due to my growing migraine, they suddenly turned around to face me. Serena dumped her book on the table to rush me while Nathan carefully put his Macbook on the table to follow her.

"So, how are you holding up? You got your fill of headbutting tables?" Serena said as she crossed her arms.

Without a word, Nathan stood behind her, a slightly dark and broody expression on his face. He seemed to blame himself, even if Johnathan had been the idiot.

"Besides this annoying headache? I'm fine. Though I might be getting a little bit of a bump."

Serena smirked as she sat beside Johnathan on the bed, checking out the bum. "That it?"

"Well, sorry for being perfectly healthy in mind and body, Serena. So what are the two of you doing in my house?"

Nathan refused to speak, just shaking his head when Johnathan turned to him. At the same time, Serena sighed slightly before answering.

"You headbutted a table, and Nathan could barely catch you. Otherwise, you would've hit your head on the floor as well. He hasn't told me what happened, just that you were talking, and your eyes rolled back. We called for an ambulance, and they took a look, told us you were fine, and then delivered you here. You are just stressed, overly excited, and have a cold. Who would have guessed." The woman had the biggest grin on her face.

Johnathan groaned and buried his face in his hands. "I forgot you still have a duplicate key to this place."

"Yep, and I took him with me since Nathan seemed worried."

As soon as the words left her mouth, Johnathan glanced at Nathan. His face reddened slightly as he moved his mouth, not a single sound coming out. He was so cute.

"Let's go sit in the living room. We need to talk." Serena said. The smile went from her face as she signaled both to come and follow her around.

Nathan gave a slight nod and held a trembling hand toward Johnathan, wishing to support him. He grabbed it With a smile, standing up with shaky legs before he and the shorter man waddled to the living room—an unspoken tension between them. As soon as they sat down together on the couch, they were stared at by the red-haired woman. She crossed her arms and legs, sitting on the only chair facing them.

"Talk."

What was there to say? What could he tell her, especially since Nathan was here too? They needed to talk about his disastrous chapter, not be here with Selena. Johnathan looked at Nathan, who seemed to have some understanding with Serena. Something happened between those two when he was knocked out.

Nathan suddenly took a deep breath before he spoke, looking completely uncomfortable before talking. "Johnathan is in love with me. I went too far with the teasing, and you know what happened."

Silence. An eerie silence, not a breath to be heard. Had Nathan just said that? Him? The guy who never seemed to trust anyone? What was going on here?

It's not like John over here is very smooth or stealthy. Seeing him gawk at you in the canteen kind of put one and one together.

Nathan nodded at Serena, and a small smile came out. "He's not the most subtle. Get's hot and bothered way too quickly and hasn't heard of something called personal boundaries."

"Nate, I get you. The man is as subtle as a brick through a window."

Johnathan frowned deeply before raising his voice. "You know that he is right here?"

Serena and Nathan looked at each other momentarily before bursting out in laughter. This was the first time he had seen Nathan this happy. The two of them couldn't help it, tears appearing in the corners of their eyes as they could barely breathe.

"What the hell is going on here?" Johnathan said out loud, forgetting to think instead of saying it.

"I'm sorry, so sorry, haha. Nathan and I talked while you were out cold. He was flailing around after you passed out and might be the next one to go. And since I'm the only one with access to your door, I decided to take him. I was going to talk with you anyways."

Nathan hesitated a little before talking. "I've seen Serena at smaller pride meetings, so it's not like she's a stranger to me. I mean, we're both queer."

As soon as Nathan started to look uncomfortable, Serena would take over. "We've spoken a few times, went out for some drinks once, and it clicked. A raging lesbian and a chaotic aroace sounds like a good team-up, right?"

Out of the blue, Nathan grabbed one of Johnathan's hands, squeezing it tightly. "I'm so sorry, Johnathan. I went too far. Seeing you like that... it was kinda cute."

"It's okay. I should never have written what I did. Though I thought I put it in a different document."

Nathan cocked his head and frowned. "Didn't I say that it was excellent? Though yes, I was a little bit startled. That I'm ace doesn't mean I can't appreciate some good smut. Even if it's you know what."

Within a few seconds, Johnathan turned bright red again; even his ears were burning furiously. He was at a loss for words. His body shook, and his breath escaped him in a few pants. It was as if his entire body was set aflame. The sweat started running over his back as he stared deeply into Nathan's pure blue orbs.

"John, calm your tits! You look like a dog in heat, about to jump the poor boy." Serena said as she stood up and slapped the back of the man's head.

"Ow! Serena, what the hell?"

Nathan snorted loudly at the event, a burst of unhinged laughter following shortly afterward. It was nice to see him like this. Just happy.

"I'm going home. You owe me sushi. And you two have better made this... thing between you two clear. Oh, and Nathan, you'd better send me updates. If he goes coo-coo, you call me up, and I'll save the day." Serena said as she showed off her strong muscles in several poses. She was lean but very strong, ready to crush a watermelon between her thighs, or so she claimed.

And so the whirlwind named Serena left them together in the apartment, another strange silence between them.
