Chapter 10:

The Essence Pool

Silent Shards

Meas spoke, her words shed light on the perplexing situation that had engulfed us. I listened intently, my curiosity piqued, eager to understand the purpose behind the trials and the role Meas played in orchestrating them.

"Illusions in the mind, achieving body balance, and strengthening the connection within oneself. These are all vital aspects that anyone can strive for and conquer," Meas began, her voice carrying a weight of wisdom. "But when faced with true danger, it is courage and the willingness to take risks that truly come to hand. It is about setting aside selfish desires and acting for the greater good, moving forward with determination."

I nodded in agreement, trying to absorb every word Meas spoke. Suddenly, everything started to make sense—the trials were not just physical challenges, but tests of my mental resilience and the strength of my resolve.

Meas continued, her voice steady and resolute. "There was no fourth trial, Anant. It was I who brought you here, for I believed you possessed the potential to face the essence pool."

My eyes widened in surprise, my curiosity reaching its peak. "What is an essence pool?" I asked, my voice filled with anticipation.

"Well," Meas replied, her tone filled with mystery, "it's a place to explore beyond the confines of your inner realm."

"Hm!" I pondered, trying to wrap my mind around this new concept. "But what convinces you of my worthiness to venture there?"

Meas regarded me with a mixture of intensity and compassion. "Anant, you possess a rare combination of adaptability and humility. Throughout the trials, I observed your growth, your willingness to learn, and your ability to trust in the guidance of Sylphalope. These qualities, combined with your inherent courage, made you a worthy candidate for the essence pool."

A surge of pride and gratitude welled up within me. The trials had been demanding, but they had also shaped me in ways I had never imagined. I had grown stronger, both physically and mentally, and I owed much of that growth to Sylphalope and the guidance she had provided.

"Thank you," I whispered to Sylphalope, who stood nearby, her face adorned with a smile.

"But what does the essence pool hold?" I pressed further, my voice filled with a mix of excitement and trepidation.

Meas held my gaze, her eyes revealing depths of knowledge. "The essence pool is a place where true transformation takes place, Anant," she explained. "To harness its power, one must shed all layers of protection, both physical and metaphorical. It is a test of vulnerability and trust."

Confusion washed over me, and a flush of embarrassment tinged my cheeks. "You mean we have to go in there... naked?" I stammered, unable to hide my discomfort.

Meas nodded calmly, her gaze unwavering. "Just as I said, Anant. The essence pool demands complete surrender and authenticity. It strips away all facades and reveals the core of one's being."

Sylphalope couldn't contain her amusement and let out a playful laugh. "Oh, Master, don't be so shy!"

I felt a mixture of irritation and self-consciousness, my cheeks now flushed with both embarrassment and frustration. Taking a moment to compose myself, I realized there was no escaping the unconventional nature of this journey.

With a deep breath, I mustered my resolve and began stripping off my clothes. As I stood there, vulnerable and exposed, a sense of liberation and vulnerability mingled within me. Meas and Sylphalope stood nearby, waiting patiently as I approached the edge of the essence pool, its shimmering waters captivating and mysterious.

Stepping into the pool, the water enveloped me, embracing my entire being. I felt a surge of energy coursing through me, and my senses seemed heightened, as if I was merging with a greater source of power.

Moments passed, and I emerged from the essence pool, water dripping from my glistening body. I noticed a faint, unknown mark on my wrist, resembling a crest. It seemed to radiate with an enigmatic aura.

Approaching Meas and Sylphalope, I couldn't help but ask, "Have I completed everything that needed to be done here?"

Meas nodded with a smile. "Yes, Anant. You have embraced the essence pool and undergone a profound transformation. The mark on your wrist signifies the connection you now hold with the pool's energy."

Sylphalope, her eyes twinkling, chimed in, "Master, you have become so changed, yet so undeniably charming!"

After a brief pause, Meas asked with genuine concern etched on her face, "So, Anant, how are you feeling now?"

I took a moment to reflect, my gaze fixed somewhere in the distance, before replying, "Not much, really. But there's a subtle stirring within me, as if something new is taking shape."

Meas's eyes widened in realization, and she exclaimed, "Oh, I see! In that case, the time has come for us to embark on where you came from."

Curiosity tinged my voice as I inquired, "Where exactly are we going?"

Weariness etched in Sylphalope's voice, he interjected, "Is there another trial awaiting us? I must admit, I'm feeling quite exhausted."

An idea formed in my mind, and I suggested, "Perhaps you could transform into a dagger and rest while we continue?"

Sylphalope, ever obedient, assumed the form of a gleaming dagger, shimmering in the dim light. Meas then responded, her voice filled with purpose, "We're heading towards the person who holds the key to take you beyond the Archway."

A flicker of recognition crossed my face as I confirmed, "Ah, you mean Lula."

Meas's expression turned sour, her eyes narrowing with disdain as she muttered, "Yes, that old hag."

As if summoned by our conversation, a swirling vortex materialized before us, its powerful force beckoning us. Without hesitation, I stepped forward, and Meas followed suit, both of us being swept away by the vortex's embrace.

Moments later, we were unceremoniously expelled from the vortex, finding ourselves standing in the very same place where the watcher had first brought me. Before me stood the familiar figure of the girl I had encountered before, dressed in the exact attire I remembered—Lula. And beside her, emanating an ethereal glow, stood the unmistakable form of the watcher, its radiance illuminating the surroundings.

As we arrived at our destination, a sudden tension hung in the air, and it became evident that Meas and Lula were engaged in a heated feud.

"So, was it you who interpreted?" Lula's voice carried a mix of accusation and curiosity.

With a hint of defiance, Meas retorted, "Yeah, old hag! I had to guide him into the Essence Pool."

Lula's eyes narrowed, and she retorted sharply, "Still? You've done it before, and don't you dare call me old. I'm far from being aged."

A momentary pause filled the space as Lula processed Meas's words. Her expression softened slightly, and she continued, "Essence Pool, you say? Did he pass the test?"

Meas nodded and presented my hand, displaying the mark on my wrist as evidence. The feud between the two seemed to be reaching its conclusion.

"I see. Well, in that case, I forgive you for your interpretation and the insult," Lula conceded graciously.

With a mischievous grin, Meas replied, "Whatever! I'm done here." With those words, Meas swiftly departed from the scene, leaving Lula and me alone.

Lula let out a sigh and turned her attention towards me, her gaze piercing yet filled with a sense of purpose. "Are you ready to go now?" she asked.

Confusion creased my brow as I queried, "Go? Where to?"

Rolling her eyes, Lula muttered, "Fool, beyond this Archway."

Recognition dawned on me, and I nodded in understanding. "Ah, yes," I responded, ready to take the next step on my journey.
