Chapter 4:
Kai & Takumi
"I'm home!" I called out as I stepped into the house, only to be greeted by an unusual sight. Two pairs of shoes sat neatly by the doorway, indicating the presence of an unexpected guest. Perplexed, I looked to my mother for an explanation.
"Welcome home, honey. How was school?" She greeted me with a warm smile.
"It was okay, I guess," I replied, still trying to process the mystery of the extra shoes.
"That's good to hear. Go wash up; I'm making rice curry, your favorite," she informed me, attempting to divert my attention from the lingering question.
"Sounds great," I replied, momentarily setting aside my curiosity. "Hey, Mom, did you happen to let any guests over?"
A mischievous glint sparkled in her eyes as she revealed, "In fact, I did. He was looking for you and said he had something important to tell you, so I told him you weren't here at the moment and let him wait here until you arrived home."
"Important? What could be so important to tell me about?" I wondered aloud, my mind racing to grasp the significance of this unexpected encounter. "Wait, how does this person even know where I live?"
Her expression turned thoughtful as she replied, "Hmm... I don't know, dear. He looks like he goes to the same high school as you, and he also looks really handsome."
My eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Huh? Where is he right now?" I inquired, my curiosity mingled with a hint of caution.
"Well, he said he had to use the toilet, so I let him use your bathroom. Hmm, I wonder what's taking him so long? Dear, can you go upstairs and see if he's alright?" she asked, a touch of concern in her voice.
Reluctantly, I agreed, feeling a mixture of apprehension and intrigue. "Yeah, sure," I replied, going upstairs to investigate.
As I ascended the staircase, a whirlwind of questions flooded my mind. Who is this guy, and how does he know where I live? The only person who knows my address and contact information is Hiroshi. Mom mentioned that he looks like he attends the same school as me, but do I know him? And what could be so important that he has to tell me? Couldn't he just wait until we were in school?
Taking a deep breath, I reached my bedroom door and hesitated for a moment before opening it. "Only one way to find out who this guy is. I'm coming in!" I muttered, steeling myself for the unexpected encounter.
I swung open the door, ready to greet the mysterious guest. But as my eyes fell upon his face, disbelief washed over me.
Wait, what? Hachimura?!
