Chapter 12:

Who Are Both of You?

From the Depths of an Emotionless Heart

They were only able to fix the towards midnight

"Oh, finally, we did it," Saya yawned.

"Yeah, why did it take so long?"

"There were errors in the servers. Server issues disrupted the functioning and proxies of the site."

"I see. How are you going to get home?"

"Oh, look at the time! Buses are very limited at this hour."

"Even if there were buses, I wouldn't prefer you to take them."

"Hmm, really? Are you worried about me?"

"No, it just makes sense not to send you alone at this hour, just in case."

"You have a protective side, I see."

"If you want, you can stay here."

"W-What?" Saya's eyes widened in astonishment as she looked at Mika.

"Tomorrow is Sunday, right? If it's suitable for your family and you, we have a guest room. You can stay there, it's no problem for me."

"A-Are you sure? I would love to, or maybe I don't want to, I mean..." Embarrassment flooded Saya's face, turning it bright red.

"Let me think for a moment."

"Sure."

After thinking for a while, Saya turned to Mika.

"Okay, I'll stay. As you said, it's a bit risky at this hour, but I have one condition."

"A condition?"

"Yes. I- I need to take a sh-shower." Blushing, Saya closed her eyes, anticipating Mika's response.

"Oh, of course, it's right next door. I can give you my mom's things. We also have shampoo and stuff."

"WHAT, SO MUCH?"

"What do you mean, so much? Is there a problem?"

"N-No, sorry, I forgot that you gave a straightforward answer. Well then, I'm leaving."

"What about your family?"

"I'll let them know, no problem."

As Saya left, Mika was lost in his thoughts.

Since she accepted directly, her family must not have a problem with it. If I were to do something similar, my family would have been curious or maybe come back to the city in surprise. Or something like that... Anyway...

***

Saya had taken a shower and came out with a towel wrapped around her neck.

"Thanks for the clothes."

Mika noticed that the clothes were a bit loose on her, particularly around the chest area. Just as his gaze drifted in that direction,

Saya shouted at him.

"What are you looking at, PERVERT?"

"I-I just thought they were a bit loose. But these were the most suitable ones, I'm sorry."

"Oh, so you were looking in that sense..."

"Don't worry, I'm not really interested in those things."

"HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT I WAS THINKING?"

"Because you reacted that way."

"Mika, YOU CAN REALLY BE A PERVERT. It's creepy."

"No, I'm not affected by such things. So you can relax."

"How can I relax... Wait, aren't you affected at all?"

"No."

"What do you mean? Don't you have any se-se-sexual attraction?"

"No."

"Fetish?"

"What's that? No, definitely not."

"Oh, I see..." Saya was lost in thought, looking down at the floor. It was hard to tell what she was thinking from her expression. She lifted her head and smiled at Mika.

"Then I'll go to the room. See you in the morning."

"Good night." When he said "good night," Mika didn't look at Saya as he was focused on his computer.

Why was she so surprised?

***

Mika woke up to the sound of the alarm and quickly grabbed his phone. He noticed something... he had struggled quite a bit while organizing the products the other day. There should be an item to make arranging the items easier. Additionally, he needed to upgrade the computer's RAM. Saya had mentioned that the errors might be due to the RAM.

"It's more difficult today, but I'll do it tomorrow. Anyway, it would be better to have breakfast first... Wait a second, did Saya stay over at our place yesterday?" he thought, then put on his slippers and opened the door.

The guest room was right on the right side. As he was about to open the door, he remembered,

It wouldn't be appropriate to open the door; I usually get a negative reaction. Let me see if her shoes are here.

He looked on top of the shoe rack downstairs, and Saya's shoes were there.

So she was home. Mika needed to prepare breakfast, but would Saya eat? Most likely.

In order not to bother Saya or risk irritating her, he made his way to the kitchen and began preparing the only breakfast he was confident in making for two people: an omelet.

***

As the meal was almost ready and the coffee was prepared, the sound of Saya's footsteps resonated as she descended the stairs.

"Good morning, Mika," Saya said while yawning.

"Good morning."

"Wow! Are you cooking?"

"Yes."

"Yay! What are you making?"

"An omelet."

"Hmm, a healthy breakfast, huh? And you've also chopped the vegetables."

"Yes."

"I thought you would start working without caring about breakfast."

"No, I pay special attention to my breakfast; otherwise, my day feels meaningless."

"Meaningless, huh... Well, come to think of it, it doesn't have any emo-emotional significance."

Saya suddenly stopped herself from saying something and her eyes widened.

"I'm sorry, I was about to say something wrong."

"I-it's okay, you know that whether you're mad at me or sad, I only understand how your emotions appear on the outside and how they influence people's behavior."

"You're like a robot psychologist."

"A robot psychologist? Is there such a thing?"

"No, of course not, I just made it up," Saya said laughing

"I see..."

Once the meal was ready, they took their seats at the table and enjoyed their food.

"Thanks for the meal. And the coffee is delicious too."

"Thank you," Mika said, then checked the time on his phone. Suddenly, he stood up.

"Is something wrong again?" Saya asked curiously.

"No, it's just that my schedule is about to end for mealtime, and I need to clean up the dishes."

"You and your perfectionism... Anyway, I'll help too. By the way, I have to leave soon. I need to stop by home and get ready before meeting my friends."

"Okay."

"You don't even ask who they are..." Saya muttered under her breath.

After putting the dishes in the dishwasher, Saya prepared her things.

"Thank you for today and for hosting me."

"You're welcome, and I thank you for helping me."

"What's this?" Saya started laughing.

"What's wrong?"

"We keep thanking each other endlessly. Anyway, I'm leaving then." Saya turned around and opened the door, but just as she was about to leave:

"Saya, wait a second..." When Saya turned around, Mika quickly extended his right hand to the left side, towards the back of the door. Suddenly, he pushed Saya against the door. Saya's eyes widened in astonishment as she looked at Mika. They were standing very close to each other. Saya thought to herself,

"Wait, w-what's happening?" Mika took a step back and said,

"Here's the umbrella. You almost forgot it." He was holding the umbrella in his right hand.

"Oh, w-what? Th-thank you," Saya's heart was beating fast, trying to conceal her surprise. She opened the door and left, with Mika seeing her off. Mika contemplated silently within his mind.

"Well, it would be good if I don't waste any more time."

***

The next day, Mika went to the shopping mall to buy the items he needed. Sometime later, he bought the items he needed and walked to his bike. Suddenly, as he walked someone called out to him from behind.

"H-hey, h-hello?"

Mika ignored it, thinking it wasn't directed at him. Besides, he didn't recognize the voice.

"We're talking to you, mysterious boy!"

Finally, Mika turned around. Two girls stood directly behind him, staring intently.

"H-hello, who are you?"

"Do you live around Steephill?" the girl with orange hair asked curiously.

Mika couldn't comprehend why she was asking. How did they know him and where he lived?

"Y-yes, but as I said, who are you? Have we met?"

"No, but we've always seen you around and wondered. So, it's really you."

"Wondered? Wondered about what, exactly?"

"You're a fellow non-schoolgoer, and you wander around helping people occasionally. Isn't that interesting enough?" the girl with black hair said excitedly.

"Is that so?"

"Yes... Hey, come hang out with us," the other girl said.

"I don't understand."

"We're asking you to hang out with us. You're handsome and mysterious. We'd like to get to know you."

"Handsome and mysterious? I'm sorry, b-but..."

"'No excuses accepted. Come on!' They both grabbed his hand and began pulling him in a specific direction.

What was happening?
