Chapter 28:

Revival

Watch Over You

Beeping noises rang through my ears. I could not open my eyes to inspect my surroundings, they were heavy, almost reluctant to show me the world. I could feel my entire being hurt, from my legs to my spine to my head. I was plastered with unbearable, excruciating pain. I could hear a faint voice uttering words unrecognizable in the distance. Exhaustion had overcome my being, I felt the urge to return to a deep slumber. But the noise of the beeping kept me from falling back to sleep.

‘Where…am I?’ I tried to speak, but my mouth did not move.

I then noticed some sort of tubes were lodged inside my nose, I struggled to breathe without my nasal passage. There was a pin sensation in my arm, I could feel some form of liquid slowly churning itself in my arm. My lips were dry, I attempted to salivate my mouth with my tongue. Under my eyelids, a rising light had begun to shine through into my pupils. I could feel my strength return bit by bit.

‘Where’s my mom?’ I asked myself.

I lifted my eyes open as carefully as I could. I saw the ceiling above me, a plain white ceiling with a rotating fan swirling the air. The white lights were blinding, giving me a feeling of uneasiness. I continued to scan the room with my eyes as I hadn’t the energy to lift my head. There were mounds of medical equipment surrounding me, from monitors to infusion pumps. Feeling returned to my hands in the moment, I could feel a cold, agitated hand resting on my right hand. The hand caressed my own with a sense of prudence, it felt welcoming.

“Mom…” I uttered.

I took the hand with my own. Holding it with the little strength I had. Then, I turned my head to face my mother. But, It was not her. It was a girl with striking-green hair, red highlights ran across in between her hair. She sat in a wheelchair beside my bed. She looked a mess, her hair was dishevelled. She wore black-framed glasses that sat carefully atop her small-nose, yet the glasses were dirty and covered in smudges. Her violet-eyes dull and dreary, a look of sadness shone within them. The girl was shocked at my presence. Then, tears escaped her eyes, running down her face.

“David.” The girl said softly.

‘Am I, David?’ I asked myself.

The girl pressed a button on my bed, and a noise rang from the monitor beside me. The noise was terrible, it rang throughout my ears. I licked my lips, attempting to moisten them.

“Wh-who are you?” I uttered.

I could see the girl attempt to hold back her tears. Then, three figures appeared behind the girl. Two women dressed in all-white stood above, and next to them a man in a long coat. I assumed the man to be a doctor or surgeon. The girl with the green hair spoke in her language to the man, and he nodded. The doctor instructed the nurses something, and they obliged. The doctor removed the girl as he bent over to inspect my hands.

“Mister Taylor. Can you hear me?” The doctor asked softly.

The doctor spoke in Japanese, I understood what he had said, somehow. I struggled to reply, I could only nod my head in agreeance.

“You are in the hospital. You had a seizure.” The doctor said.

‘Ah, I see…’ I thought.

“Your brain bled, we had to perform a surgery to stop the bleeding. But do not worry, it was successful.” The doctor informed me. I nodded; I understood what had happened to me.

“Do you know what country you are in?” He asked me.

‘Country? Am I not in Britain right now?’ I thought.

I shook my head. The doctor and the nurses looked at each other with concern. And they all conversed quietly. The doctor pulled the girl aside, explaining something to her. I took note that the girl was in a wheelchair. She nodded as she wiped tears from her face listening to the doctor.

“You need rest, Mister Taylor. We will be here for you if you require assistance.” The doctor said. I nodded. The girl rolled closer to me, placing her hand on mine.

“David…I’m sorry.” She said.

Her hands trembled. My eyes grew weary, I presumed the doctors had put something in my IV drip, as my consciousnesses faded in and out of obscurity.
