Chapter 21:

The Quest for Truth Begins

Silent Shards

The small chamber room in the palace was adorned with opulent tapestries and intricately designed golden accents, reflecting the grandeur of the royal court. Queen Marissa sat regally on a plush royal chair positioned between two lavish sofas. Her exquisite royal char was adorned with delicate embroidery, a symbol of her status as the ruler of the kingdom.

To the left of Queen Marissa sat her beloved daughter, Princess Vespa, her eyes still glistening with the remnants of tears from the previous emotional exchange. On the right side of the queen, resided Arin, the young genius sage, his face a mix of determination and worry as he prepared to face the unsettling truth about the recent developments.

On the sofas flanking Queen Marissa's chair, the royal guard's Captain Iriella, and Vice Captain Foria, sat attentively. Their loyalty to the royal family was evident in their firm posture and attentive gazes.

Meanwhile, on the left side of the room, the two elderly courtiers were seated. One of them, Sir Sera, wore a blue belted tunic, and the other, Sir Goir, was clad in green belted tunics. Their faces displayed curiosity and concern as they awaited an explanation for the meeting.

Sir Goir was the first to voice their inquiries, breaking the tense silence in the room. "What's going on, Her Majesty?" he asked, his voice carrying a mix of intrigue and apprehension.

Sir Sera nodded in agreement, echoing the sentiment. "Yes, Your Majesty, why have we been called here?" he inquired, looking towards the queen with a blend of respect and confusion.

Arin, who had been gathering his thoughts, took a moment to compose himself. As the sage who had taken on the responsibility of solving the kingdom's crisis, he knew the weight of the information he was about to reveal.

"Just wait, Sir Sera and Sir Goir," Arin responded with a hint of urgency in his voice. His eyes then turned toward me, and with a nod, he motioned for me to continue.

Taking a deep breath, I stepped forward, standing beside Piro, who had been my steadfast companion throughout this journey. Addressing the courtiers and the royal family, I began to recount the chilling incident we had faced in the Mukcus Forest.

I spoke of the encounter with Fiona, the elf girl consumed by a desire to kill, but also one who harbored regret and remorse for her actions. However, I revealed my suspicions that the situation ran deeper than a mere act of personal vendetta. There seemed to be a sinister figure lurking in the shadows, pulling the strings behind these disturbing occurrences.

"There is someone in this region who is authorizing the license to kill in the name of King Harlan," I declared, my voice tinged with a mixture of concern and determination. "I don't believe these incidents are isolated. There's a malevolent force at play, one that poses a significant threat to the kingdom."

As I concluded, the atmosphere in the chamber grew heavier. All eyes were on me, and the gravity of the situation settled on the hearts of those present. Queen Marissa's expression showed a mixture of concern for her people's safety and the weight of the decisions she had to make as a ruler.

Princess Vespa's eyes widened with realization, understanding the urgency of the matter at hand. Arin's features tightened with resolve, knowing that it was now more crucial than ever to find a solution to this menacing threat.

Captain Iriella, the strikingly busty lady, leaned forward, her authoritative aura emanating from her as she spoke, "We must take this information seriously. The safety of the kingdom is at stake."

Vice Captain Foria, the nerdy-looking girl, nodded in agreement, her glasses reflecting the flickering candlelight. "Indeed, Captain. We need to investigate this matter thoroughly."

The room fell into thoughtful silence as everyone absorbed the seriousness of the situation. It was evident that a dire challenge lay ahead, one that required unity and determination to overcome.

Queen Marissa turned her gaze towards Arin and me, her expression resolute. "You have both brought this to our attention, and for that, I am grateful. We must act swiftly to uncover the truth behind these actions."

Princess Vespa nodded in agreement, determination shining in her eyes. "Arin, Anant, please know that you have my full support. I stand with you in this endeavor to protect our kingdom."

The room fell into thoughtful silence as everyone absorbed the seriousness of the situation. It was evident that a dire challenge lay ahead, one that required unity and determination to overcome.

But amidst the silence, Piro, who had stood silently all along, stepped forward and spoke with a hint of confidence, "If you may, Your Majesty, I have a plan, but it's twofold."

Princess Vespa, upon hearing this, nodded with curiosity and eagerness. "Oh, please go ahead, Piro," she said, her eyes fixated on her trusted friend.

Piro took a deep breath before explaining her plan. She shared her twofold strategy to deal with the threat of the poison and the malevolent force behind it. Her plan involved not only finding the weakness of the poison but also uncovering the true identity of the individual orchestrating the licenses to kill.

As Piro elaborated on her plan, everyone in the room listened intently, and soon, they were engrossed in the intricate details she provided. Her well-thought-out strategy garnered nods of approval from the royal family and the royal guards, including Captain Iriella and Vice Captain Foria.

After a few minutes of discussing and refining the plan, it was decided that Arin and I would be the ones to carry it out. We would venture to the western side, near the border of the kingdom. The goal was to gather information and find the weakness of the poison, as well as uncover any clues that might lead to the person responsible for issuing the dangerous licenses.

With the plan in place, the courtiers and advisors were dismissed from the chamber, leaving only a select few in the know about the true mission. Even the two elderly courtiers were entrusted with the confidential information, emphasizing the gravity of the situation.

As the sun began to set, Arin, and I prepared to set out on our journey. The two of us stood near the border of the western side, where the lush forest and the mysterious unknown awaited us.

"Vice Captain Foria," I called out as her figure appeared in the distance, approaching us. "So, you're here too," I said with a mix of surprise and curiosity.

Vice Captain Foria nodded, her expression serious. "Yes, I'm here to assist you in your mission. Is everything prepared?"

Arin, who was standing alongside me, answered confidently, "Yes, everything is ready. Let's go and find the treatment for this poison, and also uncover the truth behind these licenses to kill."

With our resolve firm, the three of us set off into the uncharted territory of the western side. As we delved deeper into the heart of the forest, the air grew thick with tension and uncertainty. The surroundings felt both beautiful and eerie, and every rustle of leaves and distant sound seemed to hold hidden secrets.

Arin, Foria, and I walked side by side, our eyes keenly scanning the surroundings for any signs of danger or clues that might lead us to the answers we sought. The journey ahead would be fraught with challenges, but we were determined to face them head-on.
