Chapter 2:

Build the School

Becoming the Principal of Isekai School

Eiji kept looking at the expanse of land through the window of his room, still thinking about all the information Sienna had just given him.

"Here is your tea, sir." The assistant placed a cup of tea and a small plate of cookies on the work table. "Or are you hungry? I can cook for you… Well, but don't expect much."

"I'm not hungry yet." Eiji returned to his seat. He was still not used to being called sir by that woman. "By the way, what will we find after this wasteland?"

"Sea." Sienna smiled again as she hugged the tray. "We are on an island, sir. And there is a transparent magic barrier protecting it."

"Magic barrier, huh? Are there any threats out there?"

"Yes, this world has been torn apart. All civilizations have been annihilated, and only terrifying creatures are roaming around. The gods didn't want this school disturbed by other intelligent beings, so they chose this world."

Eiji massaged the nape of his neck, which felt like it was being hit by cold air. He didn't dare to imagine what was out there. "Ah, intelligent beings might be able to find a way to break through that barrier, huh?"

"That's right, sir."

Eiji noticed that Sienna's smile had become bitter. However, the new principal felt that now was not the right time to ask questions about this world.

"Are there any other questions, sir?" Sienna asked after Eiji had been silent for a while. "I am here to answer all of them. As long as it is within my capacity."

"What if I turn down this job?"

Sienna's smile disappeared. Her gaze also turned cold. But that lasted only a moment.

"Nothing." She flashed her warm smile again. "You'll just be sent to the afterlife."

Eiji gulped. "What's in the afterlife?"

"As I said, I will only answer within my capacity." The assistant still maintained her smile.

Eiji returns to deep thought. The options are to carry out this task or go into the unknown. What if it turns out that there's nothing in the afterlife? Does that mean his existence will be completely eradicated?

Just imagining that was enough to make Eiji shudder.

"So, what should I do first?" The new principal took a deep breath.

"I was looking forward to that question." Sienna moved to Eiji's side. "Excuse me."

She pushed back her hair and bent down to open Eiji's desk drawer. Because they were so close, the young man could smell the refreshing scent from that woman's body. It's like the aroma of roses mixed with dewy grass in the morning.

"This is your main tool." That woman took something from the desk drawer.

"This…." The new principal frowned at the black board-like object in Sienna's hand. "A tablet?"

It looked like an electronic tablet on Earth, complete with a screen and some buttons.

"Ah, this is called a tablet, huh?" Sienna flipped through that thing. "This helper device adapts to what exists in your world, sir. That will make it easier for you to do your job."

Eiji received the object and unlocked it. Instead of seeing lots of icons like those on regular tablets, Eiji only found six options on the screen: construction, shop, recruitment, students, messages to the angels, and others.

Eiji could guess what some of the choices meant. [Construction] to build this school, [Shop] to order goods, [Recruitment] to select personnel, [Students] contain information about those who study there, and as the name implies, [Others] incorporate various things not included in the previous choices.

"Ah, you can say anything to the angels, I think," Sienna commented as Eiji opened the fifth choice, finding a blank page with a keyboard. "Maybe a complaint or a suggestion."

"Can we use this to order something that isn't in the shop's selection?"

"I don't know, maybe?" Sienna tilted her head.

Feeling that it was pointless to use that feature now, Eiji opened the construction section. He had absolutely no trouble with the interface. That thing reminded him of the building features in simulation games. All you have to do is drag and drop to create the room you want.

What gave him trouble was that Sienna was so close to him. That woman's sweet scent broke Eiji's concentration.

Sienna bent even further to look at the screen. "My advice is don't overdo it, sir. Our funds are limited. We still have to stock our supply."

"Can't we get extra income?"

"Every month, we will get a bonus depending on our performance. Unfortunately, they didn't tell me the criteria or how they do the evaluation."

Eiji gets one million credits that can be used to build, recruit, and order various things. It made him wonder. Why not give all the best things to him and instead make a restriction like this?

"Basically, we are going against the laws of nature, such as summoning individuals from afterlife, delivering goods between dimensions, and so on. So, the gods want to keep it to a minimum. Yes, this world's civilization has indeed been destroyed, but that doesn't mean it will reappear in the future." Sienna continued as if she could read Eiji's mind. "That's why there is a system like this to limit you, sir.”

"Why does the system have to be like that?"

"Well, I also don't know their reasons." The assistant shrugged. "What is clear is going against nature excessively can destroy a world beyond repair."

"I see." Eiji sighed after hearing that topic. It's a bit heavy for him. "So, we need at least one classroom, two public bathrooms, multiple toilets, an infirmary, two sleeping barracks for students, several rooms for teachers, a storage room…"

Sienna's position made it even more difficult for Eiji to carry out his duties. Her assets are inches from Eiji's elbow. The young man feared that an unwanted incident would occur if he moved even a little.

"You can also add other things like parks, libraries, fish ponds, or the like," Sienna added.

"Yeah, maybe later…." Eiji has his own plans for such things. "For now, I will choose the essentials."

It only took a few minutes for Eiji to complete the blueprint for the building. Then, he pressed the [Construct] button.

"Now what?" Eiji asked while looking at the big green check mark on his tablet screen.

"Just wait." Sienna turned to the window to look outside.

Eiji also got up to see what happened. His chin dropped as a white ball of light suddenly appeared outside, then enlarged and formed a portal.

Dozens of individuals came out of that thing. Humans, elves, dwarves, and so on. They all brought carpentry tools or building materials.

"Well, since you moved my room, it looks like I'm sleeping here tonight." Sienna chuckled. "Hope you don't mind."

Eiji didn't answer because he was so stunned by the number of workforces that had arrived. New individuals are still coming out of that portal.

"While waiting for them to finish their work, how about you do some recruitment?" Sienna made a suggestion. "You decide when the school year starts, but the sooner, the better, right?"

"Aah… You are right." Eiji opened the [Recruitment] option.

[3,165,577 candidates are eligible to become staff]

"They are the best." The assistant gave another explanation. "The gods themselves hand-picked them from the various worlds."

Eiji feels that this will be a long process.
