Chapter 2 - First Step

Akira opened his eyes. He is laying on his bed while his phone is turned on while the horror movie keeps playing. He closes his phone screen and stands up to go to the bathroom, wash his face and go to kitchen and get some water to drink. “What did I just dream of? Who are the kids there?” Akira talks to himself while drinking a cup of water. He looked at the clock, he was surprised it was already 5 a.m. There’s a ton of homework he needs to do and finished it before the class subject started.

Akira enter his room back and searching for his class schedule. “Fuh, luckily the class started after break. Akira is relieved because he still has sometimes to do the task given. Without further ado, Akira takes a bath and wears his school uniform. While he is preparing himself, Akira’s parents just woke up. Akira make the breakfast for himself and his parents. Right after he just done eating, his parents came to the dining room. Akira excused himself to leave the house to go to his educational institution earlier.

Akira arrived at his school yard. He can see another has opened even though he came half an hour earlier than other students should come. He doesn’t mind it. He needs to finish the homework quickly. He goes to his class. Akira opens the class door after realizing the class light is switched on. He found out that Hikari has came and reading a book at her place.

“You always come early at your previous school?” asked Akira while taking his seat. He waited for Hikari’s answer, but he didn’t get it. He disappointed but he doesn’t take it into the heart. Akira’s target is to complete the homework as much as he can. Times passes, the cold atmosphere waved away by the presence of the other class member. “Hi, Akira. It’s quite rare to see you arrived earlier than me.” said their class representative. “Yeah, I forgot to finished Science subject homework.” said Akira. “How about you? You always came early to school?” she asks Hikari. The same respond given by Hikari. Akira still waiting for her answer, he thought she will answer if it’s a female student’s question. “Good morning, Akira, Rin. What just happened? Why is it so cold here? “Ask Hateru that just arrived and doesn’t understand the situation.

It’s already 7.30 a.m. “Akira, let’s change our outfit faster.” said Hateru. “Why you need to be so rushing?” ask Akira. “Because this is our last sport class before exam, let’s bury you frighten and enjoy our class first. Plus, I think you have finished ninety percent of the homework. You can continue after sport class.” said Hateru. They enjoy playing sports in the lesson and it lasts for two hours only.

Now, it’s break time. As usual, the boys will gather up and eat together. “I’m sorry, guys. I must sacrifice my break time this day or I’ll dead.” said Akira to his friends. “What’s wrong with him?” asked one of his friends. “Nothing serious, he just prepares to finish everything he could to survive.” said Hateru. Their friends still confuse what these two guys talking about. Akira get out of the class and go to library to finish his homework.

Akira enter the library and saw Hikari at table no. 5. It’s quite far from another place. Akira reached her and sat next to her. “So, this is the place you will go once the break time bell rings? I think it’s suitable for you since this place is quiet and cold like you.” said Akira. Hikari looks at Akira with sharp eyesight. She packs the book and moves the table beside. Meanwhile, Akira keeps doing his business. Finally, he has completed the task. He wants to leave the library.

While he was packing his stationery and books, he found a book that does not belong to him at the top of the table. He looks at the book owner’s names and goes to tables beside. “Asada, that’s your name, right? You left this.” said Akira while handing me the book. “I almost forgot. You didn’t have any food, right? Take my bento. It just a handmade sandwich. But I guarantee its tasty. The container you can give me soon within this day. I can’t imagine how rage my mother will be if she found out I don’t bring this container home.” said Akira while giving his food to Hikari silently to avoid other people knowing she will eat in library. Then, Akira left the library and stopped by a vending machine to buy some snacks and a bottle of water.

The long-awaited time has arrived. The science lesson started and so it ended. There is a disappointment in Akira face. “Chill, Akira. I know you have struggled so much.” said Hateru. “The problem is I joyfully ask the teacher to submit the homework but after all my effort, he don’t want it to be submitted or don’t even talk about that task.” said Akira. “I want to do some work. You can walk home first.” said Akira to Hateru more.

Akira studying and there’s nobody in class besides Hikari that just wants to leave the class. “Isn’t you always being the one who get out from class early?” said Akira sarcastically. Hikari takes out a container from under her table onto the table and leaves Akira alone. After a while studying, Akira decided to back home. He almost forgets to bring the food container home. He takes it from Hikari’s table and a note is writen on the paper that is inserted under the container. Akira took the note too and inserted it into his pocket.

Akira walk home by himself. Once he reached home, it was already late. He needs to take a bath first before going have a dinner with his family. The notes fall onto the floor. Akira noticed and took the note then put it onto his study table. He is preparing himself and going to have time with his family. The clock already has its hand on 10 o’clock. It’s time for Akira to have a sleep. It is three days away before summer holidays, he needs to stay focused in classes until then. He takes the note from study table and will read it while laying on the bed. He takes a deep breath and wanna start reading.
