Sunday and Ice Cream

The next day, it was Sunday, the weekly holiday I was looking forward to. As usual, I got out of bed and did nothing meaningful on Sunday.

"Brother, did you eat my ice cream again?" Alda shouted from the dining room, sounding all the way to my bedroom.

I walked down the stairs and into the living room. I replied in a confused tone, "Huh? Alda, Brother didn't eat the ice cream in the fridge."

"You're lying, look at the ice cream box, it's empty," she said as she showed me the empty ice cream box. I looked and wondered where the ice cream had gone.

"Hm, I don't know either, well, Brother, buy my sister's favourite ice cream," I said while stroking my sister's head.

"Iiiihh, go there, don't go anywhere, go straight home, Alda wants to eat ice cream," she said in a loud tone and hit my back lightly.

"Yes sis, I'll go first," I grabbed my wallet and rushed to the convenience store.

On the way, I greeted a few neighbours passing by on the street while waving my hand.

"Eh Valdo, where are you going today?" One of the neighbours asked.

"The usual, aunty, to the convenience store, my sister is fussing because her ice cream is missing somewhere?" I replied with a chuckle.

"Your sister is already in Grade 1 of high school, right? She still acts like a child," my neighbour joked.

"Haha, you must be joking, aunty. Eh anyway, I'll leave first, aunty, bye" I left aunty, heading back to the convenience store.

I arrived in front of the minimarket, but the store seemed crowded, like there was something exciting going on. I stood in front of the promotional board and read.

Chocolate and strawberry flavoured ice cream, 50% off for every purchase of both ice creams in different flavours. Interestingly, Alda also happens to like eating strawberry flavoured ice cream. So I was about to buy both ice creams, but I also happened to hear a familiar voice from far away before I entered the convenience store.

"Valdo, Valdo, wait, don't go in yet," someone called from a distance.

It turned out to be Konohana who lived in the same neighbourhood as my family. In the same neighbourhood, not neighbours.

"*pant* *pant* *pant*, wait!" Konohana said as she caught her breath from the exhaustion of running to the convenience store.

"What are you doing this for? You could have walked through here instead of running from across the street," I said out loud.

Konohana patted my shoulder and said, "Thank you for opening the door for me," After that, Konohana went inside the convenience store.

"You're really good, Konohana," I shook my head seeing her run across the street just because I opened the door. but anyway, I also went inside the convenience store. I headed straight for one of the fridges that held all the ice cream in the store.

"Hm, so you wanted to buy ice cream, looks like you forgot something," Konohana smirked while looking at me, who was choosing ice cream.

"No, I didn't forget anything, my wallet is here, my body is here, and my mind is here. Nothing is forgotten," I said out loud without thinking.

"You don't remember anything? You forgot your promise," she pouted while looking at me and getting angry.

I thought hard, while choosing an ice cream. Why is she so insistent today, urgh, I don't remember anything. Maybe it's about the promise I made when I borrowed something.

"By the way, I love strawberry flavoured ice cream. Can you pick it up for me?" She said as she smiled at me.

Damn woman, I don't even understand what she's been talking about so far. Alright, I'll get you chocolate flavoured ice cream and strawberry flavoured ice cream because of the discount then.

I walked towards the queue with Konohana beside me. It seems like she didn't buy anything today, but why is she so clingy today.

When I got to the cashier, I put both ice creams down and paid with my money. Suddenly Konohana took 1 ice cream from me.

I was surprised and said, "Hey, Konohana, what are you doing, I haven't finished paying yet."

"This is your punishment for forgetting something important," she said, blinking one eye.

"Your girlfriend is so beautiful, I envy you, how did you get her? " The cashier said while scanning the ice cream barcode.

"She's not my girlfriend, don't tell those silly jokes."

"All would be 200 yen," The cashier said with smile.

I took some money from my wallet and gave it to him.

"Don't worry, thank you for the purchase, enjoy your day," The cashier said.

I took the chocolate flavoured ice cream and headed out of the convenience store.

I look around and see Konohana sitting on the floor while eating her ice cream, no no, it's my ice cream.

"Ah crap, you've already eaten that ice cream, I can't take it away again. Alright, by the way why are you so insistent today?" I said as I unwrapped the ice cream and ate it.

“You forgot the promise you made before, you still have no idea about it?” She said while licking ice cream and looking somewhere else.

I sighed in frustration, "Fine, I lost, can you remind me about it? I don't know what promise I made before."

"You borrowed my maths homework and promised to buy me ice cream next time, how dare you forget the promise you made with your mouth." She pouted after saying that.

"Aaaaaaa, I completely forgot about that, lately I've been quite busy with my activities."

"Like club activities, I don't see you active in clubs these days, last time I remember you were active in the football club, but why did you decide to quit just like that?"

"I felt out of place at the football club, I was also getting too old to play sports, I thought I'd follow my calling rather than someone else's."

"Since when did you do that, I always saw you happy every time you played football in middle school.

"Not really, I do my best whenever I do something I love, but sometimes people think that you're not doing your best, so I decided to get out of that place rather than get annoyed." I said while eating a whole ice cream and looking at the sky.

"I didn't know that happened, people sometimes envy whatever they want."

"Speaking from experience, Konohana?" I smirk.

"I also have haters who always watch me do something stupid and start spreading bad rumours about it."

"I'm so glad someone listened to me on this topic, until now I still harboured my hatred about this."

"Don't worry Valdo, I'm so glad you bought ice cream today, so I can pay off my debt from yesterday, hehe, but you have to go home now, because Alda must be crying loudly because her brother hasn't come home yet." She said and left me alone in front of the convenience store.

I waved at Konohana as she left. I just realised that I forgot to buy ice cream, so I ran back to the convenience store and bought 2 more ice creams and rushed back home. Alda got mad at me because I took too long to buy the ice cream, so I just said that I met my old friend while at the convenience store.

She let me go but she ate both ice creams instead. Really bad, ah I forgot that tomorrow is a big day for the club now. Can't wait to see what the other clubs will display at the club bazaar tomorrow, I also hope Senior Takumi is doing well there.
