Chapter 30:

Who Is This Company?

From the Depths of an Emotionless Heart

Mika and Saya had managed to safely reach Mika's house. Mika was sweaty and out of breath, while Saya had been observing the surroundings from the back of the bike.

"I'm going to take a shower since I'm all sweaty," Mika said as he headed toward the stairs.

"Okay, Mika, can I use your computer?" Saya asked, hanging her bag in the corridor.

"Um... I'm not sure."

"What? Do you have something to hide, hmm?" Saya teased.

"It's not about that... Anyway, I'll set it up for you right away."

"Alright, thanks! By the way, I also need to use the restroom."

"No problem."

Mika turned on the computer and did what was necessary.

I hope she can use it without any issues.

Mika took a shower, and Saya sat down at the computer.

After a while, Mika emerged from the shower, having changed into dry clothes. He walked into his room and saw Saya passed out on top of his desk.

"Hey, Saya, are you okay?" he asked, puzzled.

Saya started complaining in a frustrated tone, "Mika, what kind of computer is this? Why are there so many different codes and operating systems installed? And your proxy and VPN settings are from the other side of the world..."

"Well, I admit I use it in a bit of a peculiar way, but even being able to make sense of all that is something, I guess."

"You use your computer so chaotically! How do you manage to find anything on this?"

"I mean, I open things quite normally—"

"It's not about that, whatever... show me your website and the underlying code."

"Sure, okay." Mika sat down beside Saya and started opening things using the mouse. They were sitting quite close to each other.

"Here it is," Mika said, showing the screen.

"O-okay, by the way, why aren't you drying your hair? It won't dry like that with a towel."

"If I use a hair dryer, my hair will fall out, so I avoid using it."

"I see... Anyway, it looks like you've encountered a few bugs again."

"Well, yes, especially in the general structure of the customer review section."

"Did you get the customer review template from the internet?"

"No, I wrote it myself."

"What? Why?"

"Well, could we have gotten it from the internet?"

"W-well, yes. Mika, are you serious?"

"I am, actually."

"I can't believe this. What's your IQ level?"

"I don't know."

"It might be a good idea to get it tested at some point. You might not feel the need due to being either low or high."

"Are you using the internet to write your code? And how do you even know how to code?" Mika asked.

"I sometimes use code from the internet and sometimes write my own. I learned coding from my school club, which inspired me to start."

"So, did school teach you all of this?"

"No, I developed myself. Last year, I was a bit too antisocial and spent a lot of time at home, so it became an activity for me."

"I see."

"You're speaking like a robot again." Saya said with little pissed.

"Sorry, it happened unintentionally. By the way, we never really talked about your overall situation, but are you doing okay?"

"Y-yeah, I'm fine, thank you. Like I said, I had prepared myself, but the first few days were tough. Now I'm much better. My mom is the same way," Saya said, her face showing a trace of pain.

"Alright then. It's good to hear that."

"Yeah... Anyway, let's take a look at the website."

"Sure, if you want, you can look at the bugs, and I'll check the general functionality," Mika said, lowering the towel from his head onto his shoulders.

They started examining the errors and the overall functioning of the website together.

***

After a few hours of working together, they had completed their tasks. During this time, Saya had learned from Mika about what he did in her absence, and she listened in awe as he described the intricacies of product shipping.

"We finally finished."

"Yes, ugh, we dealt with such ridiculous issues!" Saya leaned back and began looking up at the ceiling.

"At least we improved the website. Now we have a much better chance of appealing to a wider audience."

"Yes, it really turned out well. Looking at this website we made together makes me happy," Saya said, still gazing at the ceiling with a peaceful smile on her face.

"By the way, Saya, there's a question I forgot to ask."

"What is it?"

"Why did you act strangely towards Mana?"

Saya suddenly rolled her eyes and started looking around in a hurry.

"W-well, what did I do?"

"For instance, you mentioned going home, that we know each other well. We agreed not to say these things to avoid unnecessary complications. Why did you say them?"

Saya was looking at Mika with a puzzled expression. She was completely panicked.

"I-I mean, well... I-I don't know."

"What do you mean? I don't understand."

Saya started to stutter, seeming unsure of what to say. After a moment of silence, she took a deep breath and spoke:

"I th-think I w-was jea-jealo—"

Mika cut her off with an urgent tone,

"Hey, Saya, look at this message," as if he had forgotten his previous questions and was now focused on the monitor in front of him.

"W-what?" Saya asked, looking at the monitor and letting out a deep sigh.

"They sent a message about the company's website."

"Oh, well, at least this message saved me..." Saya said apathetically.

Mika was quickly scanning the lines of text on the screen. Finally, he responded to Saya:

"In short, they're interested in the products and want to make a business proposal by both making significant purchases and offering a project for our website."

"How could you summarize such a lengthy text so quickly? And wait a minute, a business proposal?"

"Yes, they're mentioning that they want to have a meeting next week to discuss all of this."

"You can't be serious! What company is it?"

"It's a company focusing on local production. They're called Husone Holding."

"HOLDING? Are you kidding me? This is amazing!"

"Yes, I think so... They also mention that they will cover the expenses for high-speed train tickets and accommodations."

"Wow, Mika, this is amazing. It's a fantastic opportunity for your future! If I were you, I would definitely go."

"Well, if you're talking about the future, it's also your future too"

"What do you mean?" Saya didn't understand.

"They're inviting you too," Mika said matter-of-factly, still engrossed in reading the message.

"What?" Saya looked at Mika, not comprehending.

"They're saying that all founders of the website need to attend."

"But I'm not a founder, I'm just helping you!"

"No," Mika said, opening the website from another tab and clicking on the 'About' section. There were two names listed: Mika and Saya." Saya looked at the monitor, and indeed, they were inviting her as well.

Saya turned to Mika with astonishment,

"My name, why? Why me?"

"Because you've done a lot too. That's why I included you. And it seems they're inviting both of us."

"Mika, I can't believe it... When, how, and what are we supposed to do in front of those people?"

"I don't know, but one thing I do know is that we're going to Suwa next week."
