Chapter 22:

...do it... one more.

Under The Shattered Eclipse

Yuki was cleaning the house as usual. Moping the house and dusting everything down, when she found something inside one of Hiroshi's boxes.

"Hey Hiroshi, what's in this box?"

"Well, those are from my childhood days. I don't wanna open them anymore. That's why I sealed it off. I don't want my past to come back again to haunt me."

"Can I open it?"

"You can. But why though?"

"Just curious. And besides, I might find pictures of Hiroshi as a child. So its a win win situation."

"Go ahead. I made sure to burn all of the pictures."

"Ehh, why? I wanna see them."

Yuki opened the box. There were sure some old- no, ancient relics in there. That includes Hiroshi's childhood clothes, toys, and some other stuffs. But what caught her attention was a small box. When she opened it, she found two rings. Those were probably his parents' engagement rings. She got an awesome idea to tease him. But will it work out though? She wondered. She doesn't want his past to come out again, especially when those were being slowly locked up inside the heart.

"Hey Hiroshi. Can I keep something for me from these?"

"I am not sure if there's something important inside the box. But if you want to keep it, then do so. You don't have to ask me."

"Thank you."

"But I have a feeling that you have found something that you are gonna use it against me."

"You bet I am gonna use it."

"If you are already planning to do so, then don't tell."

"Hehe."

They went to school together. As their destination are the same, they spend more time together. They even held hands while they were going to school. Everybody could see them holding hands, but so what? They don't mind being seen. I mean, Hiroshi does a little bit. But while talking to Yuki, he forgets about his surroundings. Yuki locked something and unlocked something inside his heart, which he couldn't have done by himself. He wants to protect her with his life. She was the one, who made him forget his past, enjoy the present and hope of the future. She was the one who helped him learn a new feeling, a new emotion called love...

The same goes for Yuki too. She trusts Hiroshi because he was able to prove his trustworthiness. He shut in her trust issues, and taught her how to love again. Both with different backgrounds, different pasts, different personalities but with the same type of heart. A heart that is wounded, which they themselves can't fix. But that wound is slowly healing...

In school, they were having a great time as usual. Hiroshi became a bit more lively when Yuki joined his school. She also didn't need to pay up tuition fees as she was transferred by recommendation. Both Hiroshi and Yuki were studying free of cost here.

But before the last period, Yuki went silent. She didn't talk much with Hiroshi. Ten minutes before lunch break, she told Hiroshi to come to the school's rooftop. It was a weird situation, but okay. Hiroshi agreed. He was feeling weird. What's happening? Why would she call her to the rooftop now? Not to mention, the sky is kinda windy. It might rain too. Then why? Anyway, he decides to and see for himself.

Upon arriving at the rooftop, he saw something that was unexpected. There was absolutely no one there. Then he saw Yuki, sitting under a shade, just in case if rain starts pouring. He was curious as to why she called him. He goes to her,

"What are you doing here. It might start raining."

"Sit down."

She seems suspicious. What was she planning. He sat beside her. She still wouldn't tell him about the details. Then suddenly, she said,

"Look what I found from your childhood box thingy!"

"What's this?"

"Rings. Engagement rings."

She gives one to him. He was surprised to find these. He thought he had lost them. Coincidentally, the ring that Yuki gave him was from his mother. All his good memories about her mother came back to him. The nostalgia hit him. He got lost in the past. He would always see her mother wear that ring. The small diamond in the middle would always shine while under the light.

As he was remembering all this, he let his guard down... as he was holding the ring and looking at it, Yuki put her ring finger through it, which looked as if Hiroshi was putting the ring on her finger.

"You let your guard down, Hiroshi. I win. You put the ring on my finger, now let me put this one on your hand."

She also slowly put the other engagement ring on Hiroshi's finger too.

"Now we are matching... look how cute I look with this ring. Wow, it shines when light hits it.-"

She was going on with his conversations. But Hiroshi wasn't listening to it. He was just looking at Yuki. She was happy. She was giggling, smiling. He remembered when they first met at the group date. She was cold back then. She was cold too when they revealed they were Quixotic Predators. He remembered when they tried to kill each other. And now, they have long quitted about killing people. Back then, Hiroshi couldn't even imagine seeing this happy and jolly side of Yuki. If they hadn't met at that time, they might still continue killing people with a wounded heart...

Hiroshi thought,

"In that moment, I couldn't help myself. I gave up trying to keep it in my heart. I will admit. I fell in love with her. Sorry mom, I couldn't help myself. Please forgive me."

He kissed her in the lips. Yuki was surprised. Even she wasn't expecting that. She was flustered, but she remained calm. Hiroshi then backed off and averted his gaze.

"I am sorry for doing it without permission."

"..."

"You can hit me. But please forgive me."

Yuki was looking down. She wasn't crying or anything. Most likely she is embarrassed. While looking down, she said,

"Baka... Baka Hiroshi. You stole my first kiss."

"Look, I am sorry. I will accept any punishment you give."

"Any punishment?"

"Yes. Any."

He was expecting the worst. Maybe she will kill him? Or maybe he will be spared? He was looking down, closing his eyes.

"One more."

"Huh?"

"...do it... one more."

"Wait, does it mean...?"

She looked up and closed her eyes. As punishment, she ordered Hiroshi to kiss her once more. Is this real? Is this really happening? Hiroshi went for a second kiss. But this time, even longer than the previous one. After that, he backed off and finally admitted,

"Yuki, I love you."

This made Yuki's heart race. Her full face was red like a tomato.

"...Like I said, Baka. Who in the world kisses first and then confesses? Baka Hiroshi...", she said gently.

Hiroshi giggled a little bit. But her speech was not over yet.

"... I love you too."

He got the answer right then and there. But her speech is still not over yet."

"You had bad memories with this ring, right? I hope that we would be able to change those memories into happy ones."

"...Thank you.", that was all Hiroshi could say.

Soon enough, it started raining. They rushed inside the building. Both of them were flustered. They didn't talk to each other that day. They were both embarrassed about what they did. They didn't know how to approach each other anymore. It's like they forgot how to communicate.

That night, they couldn't go to sleep. Consequently the next day, they were late to class. There were no rules saying that wearing rings were prohibited, but they decided to remove those and keep it safe somewhere, waiting for the right time when they marry...
