Beyond The Stars

Chapter 648: The Story of How Grant Got His Scar

Narrator: Continuing with Sasha’s battle against Grant.

Sasha steps forward with her Soul Power now activated.

Grant’s expression turns to intrigue as he says, “So, you did have something else up your sleeve after all. Show me what you can—“

Grant is interrupted as Sasha dashes toward him with a lot of speed. She attempts a soul-powered punch. Grant opens his eyes wide as he has to quickly block the punch with his arm. Sasha follows up by trying to kick Grant and he quickly has to block with his leg. However, Sasha finally lands a hit when she uppercuts him in the chin and then kicks him back against the wall. She immediately releases a Soul Black Energy Ball. It’s a direct hit and the ball explodes, engulfing Grant and destroying the entire wall that his back is against.

With the wall destroyed, Grant is now lying on his back in the hallway. He has some wounds from the attack. As he sits up, he opens his eyes wide as Sasha reaches him and thrusts her index and middle fingers of her right hand toward his chest. Sasha’s fingers have pierced Grant’s chest but he has grabbed her arm to stop her from going any deeper than the surface level. Sasha quickly attempts to pierce him with the fingers of her left hand but Grant kicks her straight in the gut, stopping her attack. He then punches her multiple times before pushing himself off the ground and thrusting both of his feet against her. Sasha is knocked back into the room.

When Sasha rebalances herself, she sees that Grant is gone. She grits her teeth as she looks around trying to find him. As soon as she looks up, Grant comes down from above and kicks her straight in the face, knocking her into the floor, cracking and breaking some of it. Sasha tries to retaliate with a kick but Grant jumps back.

Grant states with a calm and serious tone, “I had the right read on you after all. None of our angels would be able to defeat you in battle. That’s why I had to step in and fight you myself.”

Sasha wipes blood from her mouth and spits out some more on the floor. She replies, “We already know that you only fight if no one else can handle the opponent. Our intel was correct that you are way stronger than anyone else we would have to fight. Well, maybe except for your father potentially.”

Grant speaks again with his usual tone. “Just a bit ago, you mentioned my scar. Would you like to know how I got it?”

Sasha just stares at him with a serious expression.

Grant continues speaking. “There was one person who actually managed to do significant damage to me. She was a mad woman. A true maniac. A user of the abyss.”

Sasha flinches and opens her eyes wide in surprise when Grant mentions the abyss. She mumbles in a trance-like state, “Tell me… Tell me about this woman.”

Grant begins to have a flashback.

***

Grant narrates, “Her name was Anima. She was a mortal and yet she had a power that could rival my own. It was Abyss Magic.”

Grant walks into a Flora World town in ruins. He looks around the area and immediately notes, “There aren’t any people here… Just yesterday, this was a thriving town. Where did everyone go?”

He begins walking farther into the town ruins and soon begins to hear maniacal laughter.

“Heeheeheehaaahaaahaahaaaaahh”

Grant speaks with his usual calm and serious tone. “Who is there? Show yourself.”

The maniacal laughter starts to sound closer and closer.

Grant notes, “Whoever she is, she’s getting closer.”

Suddenly, a woman with shoulder-length brown hair who is wearing big goofy glasses and a black witch-like dress bursts out from a glass window on the second floor of a building and leaps at an arch down toward Grant. She looks like a woman in her early 20s.

Anima thrusts her right arm downward and a condensed wave of abyss energy is released. Grant jumps out of the way to avoid the attack.

Grant asks, “I don’t know what your deal is but what happened to all of the people of this town?”

Anima lands on the ground and launches herself toward Grant with her energy charged.

She shouts maniacally, “They are all a part of the abyss!”

Anima reaches Grant and thrusts her right arm forward, Grant blocks the attack with his arm but he notices that he is starting to feel pain. He opens his eyes somewhat wide and thinks to himself. (“Her attack is actually hurting me? But she is just a mortal.”)

Grant retaliates by trying to kick Anima. However, she phases into a black abyss when the kick connects.

Grant thinks to himself. (“There has to be more to her than she is letting on…”) He then speaks aloud. “What do you mean that the people are all a part of the abyss now?”

Grant looks down at his feet to see that there is now a black abyss beneath his feet as if he was standing over a bottomless pit. Suddenly, Anima appears to be climbing out from that abyss with a maniacal smile. She maniacally shouts, “I took them into my abyss! They are all a part of me now! And soon, so shall you too, Light Prince Grant!”

Grant tries to jump away but he finds himself feeling that he is getting sucked in. Anima takes advantage and leaps up with her magic charged. She blasts him with a strong wave of abyss energy. It actually deals decent damage to him, leaving him with wounds. Anima tries to follow up by grabbing onto him but Grant succeeds in kicking her away which also closes the abyss below him.

Grant asks, “Was this all a trap to lure me here? What is your deal? Who even are you?”

Anima responds maniacally, “Yeeeeeessssss!! I want to take you into my abyss more than anyone else!! Abyssssss!!! Come into my abyss!!!! I, Anima, will take you into my abyssssss!!!”

Grant replies, “I don’t know what is wrong with you but I’m going to have to put you down.”

Anima launches toward Grant while laughing maniacally. Grant thrusts both his arms forward and beams of light are released. Anima doesn’t even try to avoid the beams. She is engulfed by them.

Grant says with his usual calm and serious tone, “Regardless of every ability that you have, you are still a mortal. You didn’t stand a chance…”

Grant opens his eyes wide as he sees Anima still fully intact after the light beam ends. She has a maniacal grin on her face as bones begin to emerge out from her skin as if it were her own skeleton. The bones then crack and turn to dust that falls off of her.

Grant speaks with a tone that is calm but also has a hint of shock. “But how? That attack should have vaporized you.”

Anima maniacally shouts, “It’s my abyss!!! The power of bones and skulls comes from my abyss!! The Abyss Deity grants!!!! We are connected!!!!”

Grant looks confused and asks, “What does that even mean?”

Abyss power begins to spread out around Anima. She maniacally shouts, “You’re mine!!! Abyss Javelin!!!”

Coming out from the large cloud of abyss energy is a large black javelin spear. With an extreme speed, it launches toward Grant. He opens his eyes wide and tries to evade. Even with his speed, the javelin cuts by a part of his right cheek.

Grant thinks to himself. (“I have to finish her fast!”)

Grant begins spreading his light throughout the entire area. Using the light, he forms himself in point-blank range of Anima and punches her hard in the face. Anima is knocked back like a rag doll as Grant immediately begins a follow-up attack. He appears directly above Anima and does a downward thrusting to kick to pound her into the ground. She coughs up blood as a result of the attack.

Anima begins maniacally shouting as Grant readies a magic attack from above. “The Abyss!! You must become a part of my abyss!!”

Grant responds, “I have had enough of you. This will end it.”

Grant forms a large ball of light in his hands. He throws it down toward Anima. When it hits her, the ball begins to burst with light shooting out everywhere and the light hitting her starts to burn into her body.

While in extreme pain, Anima maniacally yells, “No! My abyss!! I must not die!! I must take you into my abyss!! The Abyss Deity…!!”

Anima’s body completely burns through and she dies before she can finish what she was saying.

Grant looks at the light-burned body and says, “You hurt me more than any enemy ever has. I don’t know what ultimate goal you had but at least you are not a problem anymore. Neither for me nor any mortals.”

***

Grant’s flashback ends and he says, “It was clear she had an obsession with me. I still don’t understand why but I don’t believe there was a real reason. Based on how she acted, I would say she was simply driven insane. But there is one thing that is clear and that is that she was the toughest opponent I have ever faced. That javelin attack left my face with a permanent scar.”

Sasha puts her hand up to her chin and thinks to herself. (“That obsession sounds similar to how Korobu was with Zeth. Just that Korobu was not insane. Is there a connection?”)

Narrator: Grant’s scar was caused by an abyss user similar to Korobu! What does all this information mean!?
