Chapter 42:

[S] Ll'e etai'sse

Your Heart has Meaning.

Ll’e etai’sse

Aethine, Fr’thdei, Athil 23, 1928.

December
The beloved ‘stars’ once heralded as the footnote of every majour article in the Nation of Uepris have now stretched far further than a name upon a wall. The ‘Baron of Lilacs’, seemingly in conjunction with the God, or rather, the Demon who had once razed the world to ash and sorrow, had now chosen to review the pain he had caused unto others. Whether this was for the sake of his image, or the truth of his heart, has yet to be spoken aloud. All we can gather from this event of ‘beauty’ is that it involves a name many of us have grown to revere- rather, to treat as if he were a King.

But where had this man come from? How, and why, did the ‘Baron of Lilacs’ rise to prominence so suddenly? Why did our hearts become, and stay enthralled by the magic nature of his words, when we have long-since turned away from sorcery as a whole? Why did he bring to life, not on one or two occasions, the ‘stars’ he seems to hold dear, to show us their beauty in such a way? What is the meaning of them- and why did it have to involve the name we choose not to speak aloud, out of fear and hatred alike?

There are many questions surrounding the event, but all we can conclude is that in some minor way, there was meaning to the blackening of the sky, of its obsidian apparel blanketed with glimmer. To shed light on the matter, from the perspective of a man who has spoken with the proclaimed demon ‘Solis’, is a man we have all grown to belove: a man who shines brighter than the ‘stars’, and one who, for his whole life, has dedicated himself to leading our great Nation to prosperity.

For nearly six decades, our King of the Undine, Elien Firenza, has dedicated himself to stop the advancement of what has been commonly referred to amongst great scholars and heralded names as the advancement of ‘skewed Spriggan morals’. There is no strength, but rather weakness, in their clinging to the old ways. It is said, that given time, and no pushback, those morals would continue to seep into and corrupt the greatness of Undine society. In the interview ahead, we were given an opportunity to speak to the mighty force leading the bastioning of the fight against the ‘Spriggan corruption’, and how the strength of the ‘stars’, and their symbolism of a mighty sky has helped in the campaign.

December: When the sky first went dark, what were your thoughts in that moment?

Elien Firenza: I was neither afraid, nor alarmed. I had spoken previously with the man behind the event, both the poet- ‘Agreste’, and the demon, ‘Solis’. After a long, drawn out discussion, they eventually caved to the terms I set before them. This event, or rather, this ‘spectacle’ would not have been able to occur if I did not allow them to do so.

December: Many do not know the poet as ‘Agreste’, but rather as the ‘Baron of Lilacs’. Why do you refuse to say his title aloud?

Elien Firenza: Simply put, he has never been, and never will gain such a title in this country. While we’re appreciative of what he has done for the people in some minute sense, we hold strong values tied to the strength of our blood, and to dismiss that now would be to dismiss our centuries of history within this great and mighty Nation.

December: Many have begun to demean your efforts in the conflict. They have started to believe that, in a sense, there was no obvious aggression from the nation of Osheae. They say that the ‘Land of Thorns’ was named aptly, and the blood spilled on the side of the Undine was simply a matter of becoming tangled in the thorns through brashness. How would you respond to these forming thoughts?

Elien Firenza: I would refuse to respond. Any and all who have sunken to the level of conforming with these stringent beliefs, I imagine, have abandoned their Nation as a whole. To demean the country who has done so much for you, how greedy and cruel could a person be?December: I would like to thank you for taking the time to come out here, when I know you have been so busy in recent years. I have but one more question from you, and I hope you can answer honestly.

Elien Firenza: I will try my hardest to, in respect towards your kind gestures.

December: In public records, there is no recording of your nephew's birth, or anything that pertains to him at all, until around two decades ago. By all reports, he is at least thirty years of age. So, where did this missing decade disappear to? Rather, what we would wish to know is- is the Nobleman Kitsch Yulier even your blood?
There was no response from our mighty King, and so the interview was cut short.

As always, ll’e etai’sse is published bi-weekly. We would like to thank each and everyone individually, but I’m afraid there aren’t enough trees in the world to be able to print out that much paper.

Take care, and keep Aethine in your hearts.
