Chapter 11:

"Class Trip! To the Izu Peninsula!"

The Star in the Night Sky

As Saturday came around, all the students met at the front gate of the school as instructed by the teachers. Everyone had their suitcases, and wore their casual attire. Everyone was ready to make this a trip to remember. As everyone was gathered, the teachers went on the P.A systems to make an announcement.

"Everyone, please remember the bus number that each class will be assigned to. It's important that you do, because that will be how we will keep count of everyone. The buses will be here shortly, so in the meantime feel free to chat amongst yourselves."

Students were happily chatting amongst their friends from other classes, discussing what things to do in Minamiizu. Since I had been there long ago, I already had somewhat of an idea of what I'd do when I got there. I was definitely planning to visit a shrine while we were there.

"If I remember correctly... there's a beach there that can only be accessed by boat. It was really beautiful."

I said thinking out loud.

"Shiro have you been to Minamiizu before?"

Hiyori had asked me, not knowing she was near me had startled me a bit.

"Haha! I'm sorry! I thought you saw me over here."
"How would I expect to see you if you were behind me"
"I guess your right! Silly me..."

Hiyori was always a bit of an airhead, but that didn't really bother me. She was fun to hang around, and keeps me laughing.

"I visited Minamiizu a while ago when I was a kid."
"Oh really? Was it a vacation? Or where you there for another reason?"
"I was there for family reasons, but I did enjoy my time there."
"So can I expect you to show me around?"
"Yea sure."
"Great! Thanks!"

And with that, she had quickly sped off to go talk to her other friends. Looking around, I didn't see Seira or Takada anywhere, but I had figured they were busy with class representative business. The buses for the trip arrived 20 minutes later. As they parked, the teachers had each class organize together, and assigned each class to a bus.

"We have a couple rules to follow on the bus students, so listen clearly, failure to follow the rules on the bus or on the trip, could result in you being sent home early."

Another teacher had stepped up with a megaphone to begin listing the rules.

"On the bus, please try your best to use your inside voices, all of your luggage will go in the storage under the cabin. There's one bathroom in the back of the bus, but if you need to go, we ask that you don't form a line. For this reason, we'll fill up the buses from the front in order to save a few rows to act as a line. Please try to refrain from walking around while we are driving, as we don't want anyone to potentially get hurt. That's all, if anyone has any questions, please go to your teachers, and we'll do our best to assist you. Thank you."

After the teacher finished explaining the rules, all the classes lined up in front of their buses. In order to be able to sit with their friends, many made sure that their groups were together in the line. The class reps and the extra staff present on the trip, had their own bus that they sat in. Most likely to plan and talk about the details of the trip further. In our bus, I sat next to Hiyori and her friend group. Her friends only knew of my reputation, but they were surprisingly kind to me. That was most likely because Hiyori was my friend. We ended up leaving the school an hour later, as we had to wait for every bus to be loaded with our luggage. The trip there seemed to last forever, but I didn't mind because the scenery was absolutely beautiful. I had already this trip planned out in my mind, and what I was going to do while I was here.

"So Shiro, how do you know Hiyori?"

One of her friends asked me.

"She was in my study group for the midterms a couple weeks ago, we've been hanging out ever since."
"I see..."

After that brief question, not much was said for a while. As I was looking out the window, I felt a slight pressure on my shoulder. As I turned around to see what it was, Hiyori had fallen asleep and was using my shoulder as a pillow. I didn't think much of it, as many of my classmates had started falling asleep. So I continued to let her sleep, even closing her mouth slightly so she wouldn't drool. She was actually quite the peaceful sleeper, I thought to myself before looking back out the window. The rest of the trip was completely quiet, as almost everyone, including the teachers were sleeping now. We had arrived in Minamiizu in the evening. The hotel that we had was very nice. The hotel included free breakfast, beautiful views, hot springs, a sauna, and much more.

"What made the school agree to treat us to such a luxurious experience?"

I had thought to myself as the teacher were waking up the students.

"We're here class, please wake and exit the bus in an orderly fashion. Once, we finish unloading the bus, we'll start going over what we have planned for the week."

The school had surely outdone themselves with this, I couldn't believe that we were here for a class trip. It didn't take too long for our luggage to be unloaded. This was probably due to everyone wanting to jump in right away. After all the luggage was unloaded, the buses left and the teachers had us wait in the parking lot near our classes representatives. While we did that, the teachers went to check us into the hotel. Once they came back, they explained to everyone what the hotel included before going over the game plan for the week.

"While we're here, we'll be doing a bunch of activities. All of which are optional of course, as we're sure some of you may already have an idea on what you may want to do. We will give you free reign, just make sure that you have your phones on you at all times, and that you be back at the hotel no later than 7PM for dinner. We'll take attendance daily at breakfast and dinner in order to keep track of everyone. What you do between the times of 7AM and 7PM are completely up to you if you don't want to stay with what the teachers do. If you do decide to go out on your own, please be aware of your surroundings, and please be safe. With that being said, lets get everyone to their rooms and settled in. Dinner will be served in approximately an hour and a half from now. That's all, thank you for listening."

As the students were dismissed to their rooms, every room was either all boys or all girls, no mixed rooms were allowed. In my room, there were 3 other guys including Ryu, the other two I didn't know. In each of the rooms, we had 2 beds, and a couch. Which meant that one of us had to sleep on the floor. We had agreed on swapping who had to sleep on the floor every night to be fair. For the first night, Ryu had slept on the floor, but he claimed the floor was actually comfortable, resulting in him offering to sleep on the floor for the entire week. No one obviously had no problems with this. After we finished getting situated in our room, we decided to explore the hotel a little. The hot springs there, had crystal clear water, and looked amazing. Before we knew it, it was already time for dinner. In the dining hall, we were allowed to sit with anyone we wanted to. I couldn't find Seira anywhere, but I could see Hiyori waving for me to sit with them.

"How many people do you have a room with Hiyori?"
"Everyone at this table is in my room actually."
"What? That's... 1, 2, 3, 4... 5 people! We only have 4 in ours."
"Well girls are more comfortable in bigger groups than guys are."
"I guess you have a point there"

After dinner ended, the teachers recommended the beach tomorrow.

"Does anyone have any good beach recommendations?"

As they ask that question, I raise my hand.

"Sensei, I know of a beach we can go to."

I could feel the eyes of the students looking at me as I said this.

"There's a beach called Hirizo Beach, it can only be accessed by boat, but the views there are amazing."
"How do you know this Shiro?"

One of the teachers had asked me.

"Well I went to it the last time I came to Minamiizu."

Everyone was shocked for a moment to hear that I had been here before. But the shock quickly died down as most people didn't care much. But, the teachers agreed on Hirizo Beach after some research on it. After that was decided, it was time for everyone to wind down for the night. Heading back to the room, I talked to Hiyori about the beach, and its crystal clear water.

"That sounds great! I can't wait!"

She said as she walked inside her room. I still couldn't find Seira anywhere, but I figured that I'd see her tomorrow at the beach. This would be my first trip to the beach in years, and I couldn't hold my excitement in that much, the same went for pretty much every student. During the night I didn't sleep much due to the excitement of it all, but after a while, I finally dozed off. I was going to make this the best memory ever.
