Chapter 37
Quest completion and reward
Right now I am staring at the dead Rock bear from top of a tree. The fight lasted for about 20 minutes I think.
For most of the part I was calm and was able to make coherent decisions.
I should move quickly because soon other monsters may start gathering due to scent of fresh blood.
I got down and tried to put the whole bear in my item box. But it didn't go in.
So I expelled all my things out and carried them in my two bags that I had and then tried to put it in. It went in this time.
The item box was still able to hold some more things. Fully packed, I decided to take the bear back rather than going for the goblins.
I retrieved my sword and arrows too.
Since its still about 3 pm, I could still kill the goblins later. Going back to the town I went to the adventurer's guild.
There I first went to the quest boards to see if there was a bear or rabbit extermination quest available.
Not finding one at E-F board, I searched other boards. But there was no such quest.
Either it was taken already or no quest for Rock bear was there to begin with.
I then decided to ask Tina san who was as expected dozing off on her seat. I moved in front of her and talked to her with telepathy.
(Sorry to disturb you Onee chan, its me Ray.)
(...)
She just opened her half shut eyes and looked at me.
(I wanted to ask, what rank is quest for killing Rock bear or horn rabbit)
(....Rock bear...No request came for it. But it is generally D rank for solo and E rank for party. As for horn rabbit, they are continuous type F rank quest. )
(Oh.. Can I still submit the monster materials.....
Actually I found one badly injured on the outskirts of Ghalia forest....
So I was able to kill it. Can I submit the materials.)
(NO problem...but you went into the Ghalia forest did you not?.)
(No, but, it was only on the outside)
(Let's say that for now.)
As expected of a high ranking person. She might have had enough experience to tell that I was lying.
I didn't say anything after that and left. She seemed suspicious but soon started dozing off again.
Leaving the dazed Tina san I went to the material submission center.
Previously I had seen that there were small wheelbarrows available for rent here.
Taking one for rent at 3 silver deposit and 50 copper for a day rent, I went outside the town again.
There at a secluded place I took out the bear and put it in the wheelbarrow. All this for hiding my item box ability.
The bear's limbs were hanging and dragging and its body barely fit the size.
Dragging the heavy wheelbarrow, I entered the town. Surprisingly the guard did not say anything.
Maybe such things were common in a world of adventurers and monsters.
He did not even ask, where I got that corpse from in such a short time of going and coming out of gate. Maybe he assumed I had hid it somewhere.
I went to the material submission center and asked an employee there to appraise the bear and the rabbit as well.
After receiving the token, I decided to leave again. The token system is very convenient.
Just by going to the cash counter, you receive your due payment anytime and you don't have to wait for the appraisal of materials to be done.
And since there is your guild ID written on token as well, so there is no problem even if it is stolen, since no one other that the owner can reimburse the money.
It is good that neither Tina san nor the guild employee here asked much about how I defeated the bear.
Although they were not satisfied by my story of one being badly wounded and roaming at the outskirts of Ghalia forest.
They also noted that information on a paper.
I left the gate again, this time to look for goblins again in the Ghalia forest.
While walking I scanned myself and found that my level had become 3 but my stats only increased by an average of 10 for each level.
As expected initial stats around 100 to 150 were just an initial boost and my true stats increase by 10 times the level, which is quite the difference from others.
For most it only increase by 4 to 6. So their stats are generally 4 to 6 times the level.
I may become quite a cheat character in future. Moreover, I donot even know my skills yet.
I went inside the forest again. I have left the cart or the wheelbarrow in my storage box.
My plan is if I found something, I would kill it and then leave the cart there so that it does not fill my item box space and store the bodies of the monster in item box instead.
I will take the bodies out of the forest and hide it near the wall of the city and then come back to get the cart.
But I will have to decide, weather the 3 silver cart is more expensive or the monster.
Because loosing the cart may hurt more than loosing the monster. Moreover there was a chance that I may loose both in that process.
Walking I was able to find some more horn rabbits. This time I have come to a different area from before, in hope of finding goblins.
Luckily I was able to find one. There was a goblin at about 10 meters away from me eating some fruits.
So the goblins were omnivorous. I did not know.
But considering they had similar sets of teeth as humans except for the extra sharp and long canines, it had to be so.
I sneaked behind it from its back.
They say if you find one, expect ten. The goblins were such creatures.
And true to the saying, I saw more of them as I went near. A group of 5 was enjoying their meals.
I also checked the trees to see if anyone was on the lookout, but they seemed completely oblivious.
I scanned them and their levels were around 10 and stats about 4 times. So they were not that difficult of an opponent for me.
I fear that there may be more of them near. I want to finish them off quietly, so that they donot call their friends.
I followed the same technique I used before. I threw a stone in bushes. Two of the goblins went to check on it. But the rest of them continued to eat.
I again threw a stone to make the two, walk more further than others. After they were alone, I finished one of them with a swing of sword to the throat and the other consecutively in second swing.
I think my training with Barnabus san has improved my sword art a lot.
The goblins did not even get a chance to shriek. I then immediately cut their right ear and stored in my item box.
I had already asked the guild employees, weather the goblins were worth anything.
But according to them, their meat didn't tasted good and their fangs and claws too did not make any good materials.
The only thing of value was the weapons or armors they had on them if they were in good condition.
These two only had two completely chipped and rusted knife and were completely naked.
Seems like the goblins I met earlier were organized clan under their leader therefore they were so well equipped.
Therefore I think, these goblins are not much problem to deal with. Their intelligence is also far below the ones I met before.
I finished off the rest of the 3 goblins in similar manner. To complete the quest I needed to kill a minimum of 10 goblins. So I had 5 more to go.
Moving forward I was able to find another group of goblins. This time it was 7 of them and they were looking for something and were on alert.
I made quick work of one of them which was quite far away from others. The rest were also killed one by one.
Thankfully, I was able to get my task done without any problem. I also collected some herbs and fruits on the way.
But none of the goblins had anything decent on them. Some were even unarmed and naked.
Since it was getting dark, I decided to go back. I scanned myself and I did level up to 4.
Seems like the bear gave enough experience to push me just near level 4 and these goblins just filled in to make up for the rest.
I put the horn rabbits and ears of goblins in the cart and entered the city. I hunted 5 horn rabbits and 12 goblins.
There is no quantity bar for horn rabbits to complete the quest, since it is used for food as a whole so each rabbit is valuable enough.
Goblins on the other hand needed to be killed atleast 10 in number.
I submitted my monster materials at the material submission center. And after the appraisal was done, I received the money for rabbits, goblins and bear as well.
Since I had told the staff that I had received a quest for rabbit and goblins, he gave me a thin wooden plate with completion stamp which had the serial number of the quest and my ID number.
He told me to submit it to the guild receptionist inside to get my completion reward.
The 6 rabbits sold for 20 copper each and the bear went for 2 gold coins. Along with 4 silver from the herbs, I have already earned approx. 2 gold and 5 silver today.
But I have yet to receive goblin subjugation reward. I also returned the cart back.
Goblins born from reproduction donot have mana stones. Only high ranking monsters or the monsters born in dungeon have mana stones.
Sadly the bear also did not have one.
I went inside the guild and submitted the proof of completion of goblin subjugation quest.
This time money was given for goblins unlike the Cucuma herb one. The system here is quite organized.
I got 3 silver and 60 copper for 12 goblins and 2 guild points for completing the quest of killing atleast 10 goblins in one day.
When I asked Tina san about guild points in detail and she said that each quest had guild points written to be awarded on the quest paper itself.
And it seemed it was required to earn 100 guild points to rank up from F to E.
Since the guild was crowded in the evening, I decided not to ask anything else and moved away.
I went to the quest board and saw that goblin subjugation had 2 points and 20 cucuma herb had 1 point.
So by this logic, if a person hunts 10 goblins for 50 days successfully, he would be able to rank up to E.
Roughly about 2 months, including the break days, which was quite logical? I don't know.
Finishing my work, I decided to leave. Today I earned total 2 gold 9 silver approx, which was quite a decent money for one day.
But I think I got lucky with the wounded bear. I also consumed 4 arrows that have broken and my sword durability and other stats also went down a little.
But I think I can give it a repair myself and not loose much.
