Chapter 41:

Volume 2 Epilogue: Brandy’s New Roommate

The Skeleton & The Idiot Sorceress

(Brandy's Perspective)

Three days later...

Erika and I were in my room, finishing unpacking her belongings.

"It's going to be like we're sisters!" Erika said.

The upper level of the Adventurer's Guild had rooms available for members to rent. Erika and that creep, Arno approached me yesterday about getting a room. I, of course, insisted that Erika stay with me. I could in no way in good conscience let her be alone in a room with that strange man. My sister moved out recently anyway, so I had an extra bed available.

"I know, it's going to be great!"

I smiled at her, warmly.

"You don't think Mr. Arno's going to be lonely by himself, do you?"

"He'll be fine. His room is just down the hall anyway.

Erika, I could tell, was a bit naive, but was a genuinely kind hearted girl. Arno, on the other hand, rubbed me the wrong way. I don't know what it was about him, but I got the sense he had an ulterior motive to mentoring her.

*Tap* *Tap*

A noise came from the window. I looked and that drunk idiot, Cal was on the other side. I opened the window.

"What the heck are you doing!?"

"L-looking Ho-hot you t-two."

He reeked of booze.

"This is the second story, how did you get up here?"

"I-I Bor-borrowed a l-ladder and th-then I p-parcored up he-here."

"Get out of my window now or I'll report you to the authorities!"

"Awww. Co-come on don-"

I pushed him out the window.

*Thud*

He fell to the ground.

I also couldn't believe that creep Arno unintentionally brought Cal back into town. I hadn't seen him for a while, so I hoped he moved on to another town to be someone else's problem.

Erika picked something up off the window sill

"What's this?... Can you read it to me?"

"Wait, you don't know how to read?"

"Well... No, I never really learned how... Mr. Arno said he'd teach me how at some point though."

This poor girl… I'm not sure what kind of upbringing she had, but I'd do my best to help her anyway I could.

"It's just a drink ticket, but if you'd like I can help you learn how to read." I said.

"Really that would be great! Mr. Arno keeps putting it off, so that would be a big help."

I pulled a simple children's book off my shelf that mother used to read me.

"Let's start with this."

We spent a fair amount of the night going through the book. I also explained the ABCs to her. I will admit though, it seemed like this is going to be a bit harder than I thought. It didn't seem like she fully grasped the concept of the alphabet and she kept getting distracted. I guess everyone learns at their own pace. I'm sure she'll pick it up soon... hopefully.
