Chapter 58:
Will the worthless salaryman find his worth in another world?
Chapter 58
Into another dungeon
The next hideout I need to search is deep inside the Ghalia forest.
Since it is very difficult for a horse to move inside a dense forest, I left Ashwood on the outskirts where trees were still not that dense.
It was still a 3 hours’ journey on foot, from here.
I walked while using my conceal skill. I kept my pace fast as I didn’t want to waste time.
After 1 hour of journey, I came across quite a dangerous looking monster. It was a huge monster about 4 meters tall and had a curved back and mouth of a wolf.
I scanned it and it was a werewolf of level 60. But the thing is, the average stats are not 4 times like normal monster but 6 times
So Werewolf might be quite a high species. Maybe monsters like these are the reason why Ghalia forest is called a danger zone and only B rank and higher adventurers can enter it in parties.
It was eating a deer quite vigorously and it seems to be a lone wolf.
I don’t want to take any risks here so I circumvent around it and went past it sneakily.
This area seemed to be that werewolf’s territory so there was no other strong monster here. But I did see an orc colony at some distance. I avoided that too.
After some time, I came upon a small cliff. According to the map the hideout is on top of the cliff in form of an underground lair inside mountain.
Since vampires can fly, that’s why they kept the entrance at the top.
But the cliff is very steep and difficult for me to climb. I somehow made up my mind and slowly started climbing it like the rock climbers do, which I saw in a video.
But here I don’t have the safety equipment like rope and hooks and also the height that I have to climb is probably 50 meters or so which is quite high.
I somehow made up to the top by slowly making my way up. It is all thanks to the amazing body I have now.
I did encounter some insects and snake during my climbing but most of them just scurried away and the rest I killed with my dagger.
I somehow reached the peek. There was not much ground to stand here. On one side of the slant, I saw a closed hatch like entrance covered in moss.
I don’t think this has been used but after this the next hideout is 1 day away so it is better to explore this and be sure that there is really no one here.
There might be some other entrance so it’s not necessary that it was not used by the rogue vampires. I have decided to call Charlotte san’s uncle and his cronies as rogue vampires.
I cleaned the moss with my dagger and jammed it in the gap between the entrance.
The hatch was made of thin stone slab and was not easy to open. But somehow after putting a lot of force it finally budged and I was able to left it slightly and slide it to the side.
I don’t want this entrance to be closing on me and me dying here by suffocation so I placed the hatch in my item box.
Inside, steep steps were going downwards along the slope of cliff. After getting ready with my weapons, I went down.
After climbing down I came into a narrow hallway. The inside was not dark and infact there were brightly shining light magic lamps on the ceiling. The walls too lit up as soon as I entered, so I could clearly see everything.
There were small bricks on the walls as well as the floor. It feels like a typical floor trap setup.
So I took out a spear and walked by tapping the floor first. Just after walking 5 meters, my spear pressed a brick and suddenly a square hatch opened in the floor.
I was somehow able to avoid falling into it. I peeked down in the pit and saw spikes at the bottom.
As expected of a typical pitfall trap. I need to be careful.
The total length of the hallway was just 20 meters and I took half an hour to travel it. It is already noon now as per my watch that I got from Roland.
After reaching the end of the hallway, there was a huge doorway at the end but it was closed.
I tried to open the door with its handles, but it did not budge. There were candle holders on sides of the door, so I tried turning those to see if the door opens.
To my surprise it truly happened to be a lever to open the doorway.
This is turning out to be more and more like a typical dungeon. Moreover, why were there candle holders here anyways when there are so brightly shining light sources above my head.
The designer of this dungeon might be eccentric and stupid.
The stone gate opened and inside was a huge hall but to my horror, it was not empty. There were a large number of skeletons there, that were now coming towards me.
Since I had not entered inside, it was not lit up and I only saw some of them but I can already guess that the room was filled with them.
The skeletons were even wearing armors and had weapons and shields too.
How the heck did a vampire hideout became catacombs? Did I come to wrong place, or was it a cemetery to begin with but after not being in use for some time, it turned into catacombs?
Or maybe I activated some trap setup by the vampires.
Anyways the important thing is, although I have stealth, the number of skeletons coming are more than 30 and such a large number will flood the hallway.
Which means I would have to directly fight them as there is no hiding spot in the hallway.
Moreover, I cannot even run back carelessly because the hallway is laid with traps. So I had to think of some plan fast.
I did try to close the door again but it did not work. It did not budge with physical force or with even with the lever.
I appraised one of the skeleton to see if I could face them or not.

They are manageable but they are atleast 30 of them. I cannot kill all of them at the same time.
I started firing stone bullets aiming at their heads. The ones in the front got hit and fell down in one shot.
I reduced their number to half but now they had come too close. So I steeled my heart and took out a hammer and a shield to bash them.
I think it’s time to break some bones.
Swinging the hammer was easy but the skeletons took advantage of my gaps and started attacking me from side and rear.
I was completely overwhelmed by the skeletons. I kicked the skeleton on my back with a force and he then fell on two others.
The three skeletons then fell on a trap in the hallway, making them fall in the pit.
I was getting slashed again and again but after swinging the hammer a few more times, I somehow defeated the skeletons.
I then applied wound heal potion and drank HP recovery potion. Fighting with unknown weapon was not a good idea because I had many gaps in my form.
I seemed to have overestimated myself and that lead to me being injured very badly. I survived this time but next time I need to make decisions after thinking about it a little more.
But I don’t think, I had any other option this time though since swords don’t work properly on bones.
But it was scary as hell. The Draugrs were making grunting noises like crazy. Some were even trying to bite me, but I somehow avoided that.
The most powerful weapon I have is gamma beam but I don’t think that will work on skeletons.
Anyways, this time the situation was such that I could not do anything.
In front was a horde of skeletons or Draugrs to be exact and in the back was a trap filled hallway.
Maybe I should have marked the path which I came from so that I could have ran back easily.
It’s all due to me being hasty. Come to think of it, I did have some tools related to trap disarmament too.
I could have used them too. The tool set contains chalks to mark the path too.
Let’s use them atleast, since that’s the only thing I am familiar with, from all those weird tools.
The Draugrs dropped magic stones; moreover, my spirit eyes are showing that this place is quite high in mana density.
So that means that this might either be a dungeon or this place is so dense in mana that the monsters have formed magic stones in them.
If only my spirit eyes could see through traps too. Wait a minute, what about scan. If I scan the path will it not tell me which part is trap.
I scanned some section of the path and it did in fact tell me the type of trap and where its trigger was.
Am I not stupid? I wasted those potions for nothing.
I could have easily ran back and could have used the traps to my advantage. Moreover even my armor is damaged. I now have to replace it with my spare one.
I collected the mana stones of the skeletons. They did not drop any weapons and armor though and it vanished along with them.
Its intriguing how their weapons too are just mana and vanish after their defeat or more precisely revert back to mana inside mana stone.
The dungeon somehow provides the will to the mana. How interesting.
Now I can move in the hall freely without any problem. The hallway lit up as soon as I enter and saw that there were 5 doors in this hall.
Two, each on left and right and one big one in the front.
I first went to the first door on the left. This time I scanned the door for traps and found that it infact did have a poison needle trap on its handles.
The real mechanism to open the door was to turn the candle stick on one of the pillars and not use the knob. Scan truly works amazingly here too.
I opened the first door and inside was a big living room. There was a bed, a table, chair and even attached bath and toilet.
Although the room was quite dusty and filled with cobwebs, it was quite a luxury room.
The quality of furniture and floor was quite royal. There was nothing inside the room except some clothes and a chest.
