Chapter 1:
A Universal Time: Redux
I stand up, stretching my arms and legs.
“Jeez Gen, no need to be so hard on me-” I tease, before being slapped in the face. I stumble back a little.
“You know I hate being called Gen, stupid.” She states. Don’t worry, she’s not mean. She is like a tsundere from an anime honestly.
I apologize to Genny, and come out into the kitchen, where the other two normally are. Genny follows me to finish breakfast. Olivia, of course, was watching anime on her phone while drinking coffee. I sit down next to her with my pre-made cup of coffee Genny prepared for me. She knows exactly how we like it. I like a lot of creamer and sugar, and Olivia, I honestly have no idea. I guess just whatever Genny makes.
Speaking of, Genny drinks black coffee. Weird, right? No creamer, so sugar, no nothing. Just straight coffee.
“Let me guess, you stayed up all night binge watching Tututsu No Baiken again?” I ask Olivia.
Obviously, she nods her head. The coffee is probably the only thing keeping her awake right now.
“Breakfast is almost done, just finishing these eggs.” Genny announces. Mmm, I love eggs with bacon, my favorite!
Genny soon sits down 3 plates, one for the each of us including herself. Olivia got toast, I got eggs and bacon, and Genny made a mix of both of our dishes for herself.
As I eat, I finally check my phone.
Hm...
That’s odd…
I got a text from my mom? I thought she passed with dad a few years ago...
Eh, probably just a hacker or something. I ignore it and block the number. When I’m done eating, I change into my casual attire for at home, which is pretty much my normal clothes without the red hoodie.
[Note: Red is my favorite color!]
Genny was still wearing what she wore to bed, which she always does unless we need to leave, which, honestly, I do sometimes too. It depends on my mood.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
“Who could that be?” I thought to myself.
“I’ll get it.” Genny said.
She walks over to the door.
“You two stay back, just in case.” She warns.
I scoff at Genny’s warning as Oliva walks up the stairs to her bedroom.
“C’mon, you really think someone who is planning to harm us would knock on the door?” I chuckle to myself a little.
“You never know, smartass.” She replies.
The knocking gets louder, which peaks Genny’s anxiousness. I get myself mentally prepared, because in all seriousness, Genny was right. Maybe it could be someone trying to hurt us, who knows. I practiced fist fighting growing up, but I also use elemental fighting, mainly with fire.
The thing is though that elemental fighting is outlawed since it could cause the end of our world. I only really use it if I need to.
As for Genny, she uses her trusty sword. Custom made from an old blacksmith. I think the blacksmith is her grandfather or something. She’s surprisingly well for someone who was self taught. Her accuracy and durability is insane, she’s great!
Genny opens the door. “Hello?” She says.
Silence.
“Uhh, hello?” She looks around.
But still.
Silence.
“...There’s nobody here.” She says.
I was confused as she was. I lower my guard and step forward.
“What do you mean there’s nobody here?” I asked.
Genny gets annoyed. “What else would I mean, dumbass? There’s nobody here.”
“Then how would the door get knocked if nobody is there?” I asked.
“Good question,” Genny starts. “I have no idea. Probably a ding dong ditcher.” Genny suggested.
“Yeah, fair point. Didn’t you see anyone run off?” I ask.
“Nah.” Replied Genny. “Either they hid somewhere, or they are really fast at running.” She says.
“Yeah, probably.”
Genny shuts the door as we both walk away back to our room. Genny and I share a room, It keeps rent low.
Later, Genny came out of our room to get a snack, before noticing the door was wide open.
“...Uh, Emi? Did you open the door?” She asks, a little bewildered. I come out of the room to look.
“I was in here with you, genius. How would I be able to open the door?” I say sarcastically.
“Don’t get smart with me. My guess is maybe Olivia did, but she doesn’t going out unless she has to.”
It takes a moment before it sets in. Both of our hearts sank as we realized.
Someone must’ve broken in.
