Chapter 13:

On a Date

The Marionettist

Shock! Patricia woke up. She didn't know what was happening and where she was. The loud music almost made her go deaf. It was coming from behind the closed doors. She stood up and opened it. She couldn't believe what she saw.

Marek was... grooving in his boxers to rock music. What was more special, was he tuned her favorite song... "Pretty people never..." Marek ran to her as soon as he saw her. He grabbed her by the waist and pulled her to dance with him. They danced together and sang along with the lyrics of the song. It looked comical.

The song was about two lovers who should not be afraid. Marek even pulled out a rose from somewhere. She didn't even want to know where he was hiding her. Patricia really enjoyed the start of the day. She noticed breakfast prepared on the bar, waiting to be eaten. He cooked pancakes with whipped cream and sour cherries.

Patricia was really moved by it. She admitted that she started to like him more and more. Maybe it was also Marek's intention; what he was really following all along. After a nice start to the morning, they could go for a walk in the hills, take a stroll through the city, go for a cake or a coffee, and end the day with some quality horror movie at home.

They both got ready and slammed the door shut behind them. It only took a few minutes until they parked the car and started climbing up the hill into the wilderness. It was still just the beginning of autumn and beautiful weather. They enjoyed the beginning of October without unnecessary words, just bathing in the beauty of nature.

After swimming through the colorful leaves, they turned back to the city. It really was an amazing city for sightseeing. With a rich history, ancient houses, and a pleasant environment, they were able to really unwind.

After the walk, they went to a traditional restaurant for lunch. They had typical Czech food. Patricia had beef tenderloin on cream with dumplings and Marek ate duck with red cabbage and potatoes. Both tasted the other's food because those were perfections.

They talked honestly about personal things for the first time. Today they made a rule not to talk about work. Marek was curious about Patricia's past and her background. She only told him the basics. Marek knew that she didn't like to talk about herself, so he changed the topic. Everything went well and that was the perfect thing about the day.

But what Patricia didn't know, from time to time he sneaked around, called the police station, and was asking if they had anything new. Nothing much happened in those few hours. After lunch, a cake with coffee came in handy. The right woman has a special stomach specifically for dessert.

Mrs. Schmitt and her son appeared at the same cafe. Patricia pretended she didn't know them both, because she wasn't wearing her black wig. She was in her civilian clothes and they didn't recognize her anyway. Marek introduced her as his girlfriend. They took the bait, exchanged a few sentences, and then left. Patricia and Marek laughed because of this short meeting.

The day was coming to an end and they both returned home for a horror movie. Marek was getting ready the DVD player and Patricia was preparing popcorn in the microwave. By chance, she found sandwiches with a note in the refrigerator. "Patricia, please eat me!" It brought a smile to her face.

She took them and set them on the coffee table and later shared them with Marek during the movie. She pulled the blanket out of the room and jumped onto the couch. Marek had already chosen a horror film. It was a movie and to the murdered couple, the man came back to life to avenge his love.

Shortly before the end of the film, Patricia fell asleep and her head ended up on Marek's shoulder. He felt happy like a little kid. A huge grin appeared on his lips. Not wanting to disturb her, he let her dream a little longer. Somehow he also fell asleep and fell into the world of dreams.

They woke up at the same time the next morning. They slept together on the couch, Marek was behind Patricia spooning her. Patricia turned to him with wide eyes. She didn't say anything. She quickly jumped up and ran to her room. Marek was surprised in the same way, but after Patricia disappeared into her bedroom, he looked satisfied and happy. He was biting the bottom of his lip.

He lay down and leaned on his hands, just relaxing, so much so that he didn't notice that Patricia had appeared and was standing in front of him. She saw him and was already reading his mind. She just shook her head and threw his clothes at him. "I know what you're thinking now. You naughty boy!”

They were already late for work. He was embarrassed and blushed. He just took everything and went to his room to get dressed. The moment he opened the door, he ran past Patricia, grabbed her jacket, and opened the door. Patricia remained standing and just waited. He went back and started looking for the car keys. She held them between her thumb and forefinger. Their eyes met. He denied it again.

Marek took them and without a word got into the car and drove them both to the station. Everyone had the feeling that something had happened between them. The looks they exchanged all day, betrayed them. Patricia just smiled the whole time. On the other hand, Marek behaved shyly.
