Kaneko Tala

The park streets had all heard the name Kaneko.

A destroyer of fantasies and a ruiner of fun to some, they were the only justice this city had. That mysterious trickery… just where did they get it? Fighting them was an exercise in futility, you’d be disarmed at the slightest touch.

With most of those who walked the land being tricked-out to the point of parody and the police long abolished to make way for their petty play-fights, they were it- the balancing weight to the fandom’s reign.

Once they were helped up, the sisters both realized they were hearing the first English they had since stepping off the plane here- that, and how grateful they were.

“Thanks so much…” Frankie breathed, annoyed at how awful people could be, no matter where in the world she seemed to go. “If you hadn’t been there, I dunno what we would’ve done against a bunch of cyborgs…”

“You’ll see a lot of those here.” They cracked their organic knuckles. “You get used to it.”

“How did you save us so quick…?” Katie already found herself fascinated by their well-dressed savior.

“The people here are boring, so I stay beside the airport and watch for newcomers.” They spoke with around the same fluency the tourists had. “Are you two interesting?”

“Well, I…” Frankie played with her hair.

“Sure are!” Exclaimed her travel partner. “We’re brave adventurers.”

“W-We’re not in Everfair anymore, Katie!” The little sister chastised, embarrassed.

“But we are adventurers, aren’t we? We’re going to every last park in the world.”

“Sooo that’s what brought you to Japan. Okay. I guess that is interesting. I like you two already.”

“…Thanks.” Frankie laughed nervously.

“I’m Kaneko Tara.” They smiled, their thin grin holding just as much mischief as it did goodwill. “You can call me Tara.”

“I’m Katie, and this is Frankie. Nice to meet you.”

“Likewise. Mind if I show you two around town?”

Like they had a reason to say no.
